I'm currently running cyb chat and my bandwidth is being chewed up like MAD!! I have the refresh and timeout settings set so slow that I just can't stand it. I can't imagine what my members think. I need to do something else very soon.

That's exactly what my problems were, amongst others. The beauty is that the chat is really hosted remotely but totally looks as if it's hosted on your end.

TMH63 10-29-2008 04:47 PM

Ahh....at least I know there is someone else out there that has the same issues that I'm experiencing.

Thanks for the support group talk time. LOL!!

I like it, however I have a small problem, which is this shown below.

No matter what I do, I can't seem to get it to show the same color no matter what I do.

Any tips?

The author said otherwise here:

When I go to the control panel at your site it says that I have to upgrade. I thought we could set up individual chatrooms with this free Mod.
You absolutely can use the free chat room :) You don't have to upgrade, but upgrading does provide a great deal more functionality. eMail support@addonchat.com with your account number if you'd like a trial upgrade.

If you're having problems getting the free room to work, just eMail us and we'll be happy to help!

dreamer81 11-01-2008 03:36 PM

well it's a fact that it doesn't work with the free edition. But let me give it a shot!

Great. Tell me what happens. I don't mind buying the Add-on but he said otherwise.

Has anyone else gotten this to work with the free edition?

Using it, it works great and as advertised.

But my users have repeatedly asked for an easy "invite" feature, for when they notice a friend is currently on the board.

I myself would like some sort of chat scheduler with a countdown announcement that automatically displays (and disappears) on forumhome (ie: "Chat party begins in 3 hours 35 minutes")

It seems like the PM system (with pop-up notifications enabled) would be a great way for your users to invite each other to chat. Also, you could easily implement the countdown announcement with vBulletin's Notices feature and a countdown Javascript (you can find this all over the net).

I'm looking for a private moderators only chat add-on, but one which is like a chat room. Whenever a moderator writes something it should pop out to every other moderator, that is online and vice versa. It is needed for better collaboration between moderators so everyone agrees with a certain course of action being chosen. It would be advantageous to have the option to sign in the chat, to show that they are available as moderators. Maybe something like the one in facebook, but for more than 2 persons. I believe permissions will be based on usergroups, so having the same one for regular users will be good too.

I looked through the available ones, but the choice is big and I'm probably not even getting the full list with the search term "chat"

vBulletin? Version 3.7.2
Will this chat work for me?
Thank you.

If the PM system was sufficient, they'd be using it. They aren't, so it isn't.

And if I was the DIY type to "easily implement" I certainly wouldn't be paying $100+ for a chat script.

Just making a suggestion. In my experience, forum users not familiar with vBulletin may often overlook simple ways to use existing features in the software. Also, if you can copy and paste, you are the DIY type.

I agree totally. Both would be fantastic features to see in this product.

I have not noticed any drop in speed. Perhaps you should try removing the menu which displays the number of users logged in to the chat to see if that makes a difference?

I contacted Addonchat support about this and their answer basically came down to "ask Vbulletin", so I'm asking you folks here... I was using the 3.6 integration with vb3.6, and life was good. I upgraded to v3.7, and got this integration package, and life is still good, except for one major problem: my users (and myself) are being timed out of the chat if we are inactive for more than 10 or 15 minutes. The timeout is disabled in my addonchat settings, so the addonchat people are mystified as to what is causing this. Anybody have an idea?

Please help. I've installed the files, and I've signed up for an account. I received an email with my account id and password, but when I enter it into the AdminCP settings I get the following error:

Error setting remote authentication URL.

This error is most likely caused by entering an incorrect account number, password or an invalid authentication URL. This error can also be caused if you do not have a Professional PLUS or Enterprise account, or if you do not have the Remote Authentication module.

Please verify your account number, password and authentication URL and try your request again.

Not sure how to proceed from here.

Is it the free account? I don't think it works with that.

Yes, it's the free account. So, are you saying that a free account doesn't actually work with vbulletin?

It does. But leave it out and see what happens. It could also be the authentication url. Leave that out first then try it. I had a couple of problems with the free version and I can't remember which entry it was.

dollster68 01-02-2009 06:23 PM

I think I may have figured out a work-around. I analized the email that I received and saw that the link referenced a certain client in the code. I selected that client and it seems to work fine. For the port, I just left it as whatever was there already.

TacticalNuke 01-07-2009 08:39 PM

I have a couple of questions I was hoping somebody could help me with. First, can we expect continued integration support and hacks? And second, I'm having trouble deciding which version to get (pro, pro-plus, etc.). I'm looking for basic functionality right now but may want to expand in the future. I run a fairly small forum (most users online has been 16 so far) but want room to expand.

Thanks.

shavedaccord 01-11-2009 01:13 AM

Any way to embed this onto the FORUMHOME page, so we don't have to use it on a separate page or a floating popup? Like other shout/chat boxes on here.

swift535 01-13-2009 11:59 PM

Spent entirely too long troubleshooting something just now and figured I'd share the solution for others that run into the same thing.

The Plugin does conflict with Vbadvanced cmps. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't load until I removed the addonchat.php files from being integrated into my pages. Once addon chat is no longer integrated within vba cmps, it worked fine.

As far as I can tell this doesn't have any adverse effects. Everything still looks just as it should and is working properly.

The only problem I have left, is I don't know how to exclude the addonchat files from integration with the default Homepage page that cmps has. Hopefully I'll get that figured out tomorrow, because right now you still can't enter the chat from that individual page.

Battle_Ring 01-15-2009 02:18 PM

does this give you a way to log chats?

Jaxel 01-21-2009 03:34 AM

I'm getting the following error: "http authentication not permitted" Why?

I have a Professional PLUS account.

Jaxel 01-21-2009 07:33 AM

Okay... got everything working and I LOVE this program already... There are a few bugs/requests/changes that need to be addressed in the next version of this mod for Addonchat...

1 - uncached templates (I already fixed this in my version)
2 - support for the community link in 3.8 (already fixed in my version)
3 - better templates. I rewrote all my templates, to handle 100% widths.
4 - better who's chatting template...

The who's chatting page should NOT be its own page. It should be on top of the forum home, the same way this mod does it: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=196466

Jaxel 01-22-2009 03:39 AM

I've made my own version of this product (attached)... it brings support for vb3.8 and who's chatting on forumhome.

I am a little confused. Addonchat plugin conflicts with the Vbadvanced cmps only when it's integrated with vBa-cmps-created page, right?

I don't understand. Please explain. Are you saying if we install this product after the AddonChat product we'll have a "who's chatting" box somewhere? Or install it in place of?

You might want to take the icon size out of your product. Took me a while to figure that out.. massive icons :) Also, an option to toggle the forum home bit would be nice. I ended up editing your new product to remove that box.

You uninstall the current product and install his. Although it puts the who's chatting box at the top of the forum rather than the bottom and there is also the icon thing I mentioned above. Having the chat stuff under Community is so much nicer though.

SpottySocks 02-07-2009 06:44 PM

A few weeks ago I upgraded forum to 3.8. I'm wondering if this version of addonchat is fully compatible?

A few members have reported having problems getting into chat. Even though they're logged into the forum, when they load chat it keeps say "invalid username or password".

Can anyone help this with? Is it a cookie problem? Anything I can do to help stop it? It's really irritating.

Trek 02-07-2009 11:46 PM

This works pretty good, however if you want to take advantage of anything vBulletin wise (other than it auto logging you in), you're going to have to pay a minimum of $125.00 a year. Only the Professional PLUS version uses any of the vBulletin usergroup options, etc.

Anyway, since it's per year, I've decided to keep looking at other products. I'd of paid it had it been a onetime fee.

Good stuff otherwise though.
