I have custom skins so the headers dont show up

It only shows up on the default Vbulletin skin

Do you have a code I can put in the FORUMHOME template for it to show up?

something like this

Code:

$navbar

This addon makes use of the notices hook from vbulletin 3.7. If you designed a skin before that be sure to revert your navbar templates or merge the appropriate variables.

I've installed it and it does show messages, but it shows them to everyone. When I'm logged in as the admin, I get the guest message.

How do I make it stop showing messages telling people to register, when they have already registered?

Ted S 08-16-2008 06:25 PM

Check your notices manager to be sure the criteria is selected for each message. If not, reinstall the addon.

I did, and I alsu uninstalled, then re-installed it. Still having the same problem.

I'm running vBulletin 3.7

Any other ideas?

Ted S 08-16-2008 10:42 PM

What criteria is showing up for the guest message?

letsjoy 08-26-2008 01:55 AM

thanks a lot :)

Scott77 08-29-2008 01:36 PM

Thanks for this :)

I had to install, uninstall and then reinstall to get it to work, but working it is!!

Cheers

I've been a user of this mod since it first came out though, and would like to thank Ted for all his hard work. I guess there are mixed feelings when a mod like this is integrated into vBulletin, but I think that Ted should be proud that he created such a useful mod that was deemed good enough to be included.

Ted S 08-30-2008 05:57 AM

Thanks for the kind words ConqSoft. I'm actually very pleased that vB now includes this functionality and just hope they'll start seeding basic messages in the future so more people use it. My goal was never to create a huge mod with thousands of users but rather to bring a little marketing and UE to the forums out there... now that's something even more sites have I consider it a win for all vB users.

ph03nIX 08-31-2008 08:44 AM

For some reason I had to uninstall and reinstall this mod to get it to work but it would seem that it is working just fine now. This is still one of the best mods out there.

Javierogo 09-11-2008 08:23 AM

As you can see from the thread, this is working for thousands of people so let's try and figure out why it's not working for you rather than cursing at it.

Are you upgrading your site from an older version? If so, did you revert your templates to make use of the new notices system?

Are you showing anything in the notices manager when you have the plugin installed?

Sworm 09-14-2008 09:04 AM

Sorry, i'm not expert, but i don't see any difference with the default message for the guest of vb.

The default message is (a) one message for one group and (b) appears on only one page. Using the notices system and the logic of welcome headers you get different messages for guests, returning users, inactive users, users who need to activate, etc... and they appear throughout your site.

JVSP 09-14-2008 06:14 PM

Have had this on my site since December and it works great.

Thanks

Psylithium 09-16-2008 04:54 PM

It's in the main post... the downloads section to be exact.

Pumpo 10-03-2008 05:02 PM

Well i installed it, removed the block of coding and all 4 notices showed up, yet nothing is showing up to no registered users and users that aren't logged in.

Any idea on why this is happening?

Ted S 10-03-2008 06:02 PM

Are you upgrading from another version of vBulletin and if so have you reverted your navbar template?

Pumpo 10-03-2008 10:44 PM

i just upgraded to the last patch, and i did what was said to do in the install file, so if the nav bar is the block of coding removed then yes.

Is this a new install of this addon or an issue after upgrading from another 3.7 version? There's a lot of changes from 3.6.x and 3.7.x but I'm not sure if that's what you meant.

TimberFloorAu 10-04-2008 12:02 AM

G'day Ted.

I had put off installing this until I got more to grips with VB.

Must say bloody excellent !

Marked Installed.

One question.

Can we have a specific message for a specific forum ? For all Users.

Example:
We have threads in one particular forum, where the lingo can get a tad saucy, and of an adult nature ( swearing etc ) all good stuff, but would like to display a notice for first time visitors, that the forum they are entering contains stuff that is adult in nature .

Ste

Shazz 10-04-2008 12:15 AM

I noticed that the options are in vBOptions anymore on the new 3.7?

Nope. As of 3.7 this is all controlled through the notices system. If you prefer the old method the 3.6 version will work fine with 3.7 but does not use notices and can't be expanded with them.

Glad you like the addon!

Take a look at the notices system and adding a new notice... You can set things up to work for specific areas with a lot of other criteria if you so chose. If that doesn't do it for you let me know and I'll show you the code to manually add a message to one or a couple of forums.

John_Shaft 10-06-2008 05:51 AM

Ted I've uninstalled this, after reverting all my templates, after upgrading from 3.6.4 to 3.7.3 (using the 3.6 version of this Mod).

BUT the welcome message is still showing up for unregistered users (with the ARG undefined thing) though not for anyone else (such as registered users who haven't posted).

I've searched and can't find $welcomeheaders anywhere in any of them.

I've completely uninstalled, reverted all templates. I even created a NEW Parent style, it even shows up in that.

How do I COMPLETELY remove everything?

Thanks

Ted S 10-06-2008 03:58 PM

Go to the Notices Manager and be sure to remove any messages you don't want there.

John_Shaft 10-07-2008 03:32 AM

Ted as I mentioned this was the 3.6 version of this mod, added when I was running 3.6.4, as such Notices didn't exist. I've checked the Notices Manager and have confirmed it is completely empty already.

There must be a remnant of this somewhere, it's showing up evenin freshly minted Parent styles (but ony too Guests).

Ted S 10-07-2008 04:51 AM

Delete the template welcome_headers from your system.

James Argo 10-07-2008 08:58 PM

Chunky Monkey 10-08-2008 08:28 AM

Has anyone managed to set up the version that uses the notice system to display different images for different notices? The second post in this topic, the FAQ, https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....55&postcount=3, seemed to suggest it would not work that way out of the box.

Quote:

This means if you are using an image for your guest message, you would need to take extra steps to make your other messages display properly. The solution to this is to remove all HTML from the notices template and customize the layout directly through the notice body; this way you can have entirely different styles for different messages.
I would really like to use this mod but don't want to have irrelevant text displayed on every page to search engines. I am new to vBulletin and am hoping that somebody can expand on the instruction offered in the blurb above so that even I can do it. :)

Thanks!

Ted S 10-08-2008 04:57 PM

Chunky Monkey as I said in that post, you can use the notices system and images, it just takes some tweaking to get the layout right. As an alternative, the 3.6 version of this hack which does not use the notices system will work just fine in 3.7.

Chunky Monkey 10-08-2008 10:04 PM

Thank you. I misunderstood and thought you meant it required additional code, conditionals, etc.

iduchesne 10-09-2008 03:28 PM

Installed on RC Addicts http://www.rc-addicts.com

Works great. Thanks.
