The difference is, with the stock system, people that list bogus/typo emails create dead accounts on your system. You either clear those out, do PMs to try to get the right email or let them inflate your members numbers. On our board I conservatively estimate new reg this month at 5:1 bogus to good emails.

With this system, until they reply to the email, they can't even create an account.

On some boards that have staff to do PM followup and pruning of dead accounts, its better to let them register with a bogus email, then correct it. When you're getting upwards of a dozen bogus emails a day and you're busy with OTHER things on the board, then you might want this system.

I have played with option to verify updated email.

Here is somehting i consider bug:

user has email
first@email.com

he will change it to
second@email.com

then it is not possible to go back to first@email.com because it says that this email is already in use (althoug it is not anymore). The only thing possible is to resend new veryfication code, but that is usefull only for NEW registration not for EMAIL UPDATE.

Can you fix that?

One more suggestion: I have included also information "to ignore veryfication email" if the owner of email adress is not the one who requested it ....

The difference is that with this hack you don't get a build up of 'Users awaiting COPPA confirmation'. The bots and spammers go in there, then it's harder to find anyone who has a genuine problem to sort out. I had about 200 fake users in that group over a few weeks before I realised.

You're right that they can't post, but that's not what this hack protects against.

I wish vBulletin would use this hack as a standard feature in 3.7

vB old method of putting users in "users awaiting email confirmation" seems to pile up on my board. I don't know if people are to lazy or not enough sense to goto the email account they registered with and click the activation link. With vMail hack installed all my new members get registered immediately and don't sit waiting on email confirmation that never happens. I hope the author of this hack makes a 3.7 version. :up:

v1.33 did that for me. You click on the link in your email and it returns you to registration with code already entered in box. I know this worked with FF that way, don't know about IE.

i think i found another bug
when a member enter an e-mail address and don't goes on for registration or left the page for any reason that e-mail address will be added to database and that member can't use that e-mail to registration

I Finished update product to working fully in 3.6 and 3.7 , Fixing bugs were founded in Previous released , And add a new Advantage in MOD . (checking email domain if exists or not before great vMail code)

This is an INCREDIBLE hack
I was fighting with spammers trying to register on the forum on a continuous basis
Since installing this hack (shortly after it was released) I have had
NO problems at all with spammers, they aren't getting past the verification process

I just wanted to say that I've been using this for awhile now...and it has pretty much eliminated (along with the other changes I've made) all spammers. This is an incredible mod, and it has saved me tons of headaches. Now when I get a new join notification...I KNOW that it's an actual person.

Small problem, not sure if it's been posted allready
Installed ok, registered as new user, got the code aok, which allowed registration
I deleted that user, then tried to register again using the same email address, but it said the email allready exists, but it doesn't, as the user was deleted

Very nice idea, neatly coded hack and as far as I can see it works as promised too. Thanks for sharing the nice work.

A minor suggestion: IMO you can remove "maxversion" part in the XML file, because the hack works fine with vb 3.7.0 beta 5 but can't be installed with this line. If you remove the line and install it, it has no problems. ;)
