Hi, this does NOT work with the latest version of Vbulletin ;)

You got to give more info then that. Maybe it just doesn't work for YOU because you did something wrong. ;)

Interesting though - I just created a thread I wanted to have Members view...
Using this modification worked just fine - but recently upgraded to the 3.6.8 --- Was glitchy in both Opera and Internet Explorer... Using Inferno Shoutbox Pro - would load the entire page in the shoutbox :? --- then using vBAdvanced --- Couldn't even load the main frontpage http://jpicforum.info --- Forum is in the root directory...

Any advice?

Thanx,

Jacquii.

It has to do with shoutbox being the first to see that you need to view a thread. In the next version coming out soon, you will be able to disable this hack for 3rd part pages as well as many standard vb pages.

PoetJA-1975 09-16-2007 09:05 PM

so in the meantime is there a work-around?
I just posted a thread soliciting donations for hosting fees and such - Would surely like to have everyone read the thread :)

Yes, but you have to do an extra step. Read the main post.

Abe1 09-17-2007 10:16 PM

Version 1.2 (9/17/07):
  • [NEW] Added locations to show force read thread.
  • [NEW] Added option to just show when viewing certain forums.
  • [FIXED] User wont get force read error message if in a forced read thread.

Aw :( I was hoping the next version would include a fix for the issue I posted; vBAdvanced and the Inferno Shoutbox Pro...

Anyway - Thanx for the upgrade - but is there a work-around so that the modification works with vBA installed?

It's fixed already. Just go to the settings of the force read and check for it to show on all pages except custom pages.

PoetJA-1975 09-17-2007 11:03 PM

Oh WOW! Didn't see the option for the custom pages = DUH! LOL
Anyway - works perfectly now - Thanx so much ABE1 - A really fabulous modification ;)

Jacquii.

Looks like the instructions may need a look at when it comes to upgrading. I followed them to a T and it jacked up the menu to select "Manage Force Users to Read this Thread." If I skipped the template edit, all worked fine with the update. I don't think upgrading users need to worry about the template edits.

ninjamaster 09-18-2007 08:15 AM

i cant get this to work i set it but lets ppl in :(

Tynian 09-18-2007 05:26 PM

Thanks for the mod. I have two questions (one of which I'm not sure it is fixed in 1.2, but I think not):
1. when more than one thread is forced, people need to click the forced link untill the last forced message pops up. This means they won't be able to read the 'older' forced topics.
2. when people need to activate their emailaddress, the activation link won't work, cause the forced thread plugin will disable the activation (and showing the 'you need to read topic' message). It would be handy to make the plugin check if people are activated or not.

Of course a solution to number 2 would be to not include the unregistered and unactivated membergroups. But my experience now learns me that my admins and moderators forget about that and easily check 'all groups'.

Both are not a problem with the hack now.

yoyoyoyo 09-19-2007 02:21 AM

thanks for the update! I was curious - if the option to show to everyone is checked, and the thread is in a hidden moderator forum, will members still be forced to view the "click this link" page? I am sure you took care of that with conditionals, but I was just curious.

soulface 09-19-2007 07:06 AM

hmmm I liked the idea of this hack.. & installed it. But can it be made for announcement also ? I want to force users to read announcement mainly..

nolatron 09-19-2007 01:00 PM

Can this be implemented for a single forum only?

For example, say you have Forums A, B, C in your board. I wanna make it so users can post in A and B freely, but to post in C, they must view the required thread first.

It seems the default plug-in restricts viewing everything until the required post is read.

Thanks.

momo2 09-19-2007 04:32 PM

thanks for update...

Spika 09-19-2007 05:40 PM

Hi, I need to know if is possible to force to read a diferent thread to diferents groups at the same time.
Example:
Usergroup Awaiting Moderation -> a thread about activation problem
Usergroup Affiliate --> a thread about quotas
Usergroup Registered -> a thread about how to affiliate in our club

Sorry for my english
Thanks

yoyoyoyo 09-19-2007 05:50 PM

I posted a thread on my forum, and enabled it so it would force all users to read a certain thread, but one of my moderators reported that he was caught in an endless loop - when he clicked on the link to read the announcement he got a 404 error (page not found), therefore was in an endless loop. I fixed the problem by uninstalling the plugin. I know that this did not happen to everyone on my forum, but it happened to him - just thought you should know.

Cigarcritic 09-21-2007 02:39 AM

Thanks for the update !!

BobbyBig 09-21-2007 10:20 PM

Great, installed!
This is absolutely what we was looking for. Thank you for integrating the Forum/Usergroup selection :)

Edit: It would be great if it is possible to see which Threads does have a Rule set.

regards

Ava-Kyrillos 09-22-2007 03:49 PM

Hello

I want this option apper in the menu for Administrators only not for all modrators.

How I can do this

Thanks a lot
George

BobbyBig 09-22-2007 10:04 PM

Would be great to include this.

Thank you

wickedstangs 09-22-2007 11:19 PM

very nice mod

Loxias 09-22-2007 11:51 PM

Is there a way to have this be a monthly thing? Like on the first of each month, users would be required to view the thread?

Julio 09-23-2007 06:48 PM

Hi there guys:

I have the "Plasma" skin + vbAdvance and a few mods/modules. I donwloaded this mod, but unfortunately I can't find any of the codes I need to replace in the templates.

Any suggestions? I would really like to force my users to read my RULES thread. :(

Foxtrotelite 09-23-2007 11:54 PM

No, you have to make sure the usergroups can read it.

You should be able to do this. Just go to each thread and put there what usergroup has to read it.

You currently have to manually reset the counter if you want your users to get forced to read the thread again. I may an option soon though.

Use the history to see around where it goes.

perfphysio 09-27-2007 09:22 AM

Excellent mod. Much better than an announcement. You can even use it as an advertising channel :)

Thanks a lot :)
