i see, so your saying my problem with the multiple stories not showing is because i don't have a complete slideshow.php...

ok well i will e-mail the developer (i don't know what his e-mail account is) and request a complete slideshow.php file to fix the problem.

and just so you know, i understand vbulletin.org support for scripts you release to the public can be very frustrating and you deal with a lot of morons, but you can't necessarily assume that everyone you are helping is a dumb ass and/or an a**hole and knows nothing about code. im very aware of everything you mentioned in the first paragraph of your reply above, and the way you come off when you are providing support for your script is kind of snotty and isn't a very pleasant attitude whatsoever. i don't blame you because im sure it stems from the 2-3 page arguement you had with the idiot earlier, but it really doesn't reflect well to others who are browsing this thread looking for support...

i really do enjoy the mod though and appreciate that you released it. i have been looking for something just like this for a long time, and your hard work is appreciated. thank you for the support you've given me, I will let you know if the complete slideshow fixes my problem.

Well one thing about supporting a hack... it is no longer fun when you have to repeat same thing over and over and have to explain to someone how to do unrelated things or educate them about vbulletin basics between threads and posts.

Lionel has been extremely helpful with his mod. He is under no obligation to answer every and all question. Remember he does this out of his time to give support to his free mod.

Question about the slideshow you bought should be directed to the script owner.

I completely understand your frustration when you run into trouble and don't have quick answer to your questions.

First thing you should do is to look at all the posts and see if someone has the same trouble. Most of the time, I found the answer from other user posts.

I don't know Lionel in person but I used his mod (VBA stock trader mod) and he is more than going the extra mile to help me.

My 2 cents.

Hello,

I've been trying to buy the module, but it seems the url given in this forum, and the one displayed in Joomla is missing or removed... Any ideas where else I can get this module, or what happened with developers page???

Thanks!

ya..ok. with a crack like that... I give up on trying to reasonable about this. Zig is a better, more patient man than I.

thank you, oh high-n-mighty. I know the difference between threads and posts. Do you know the difference between clearly written responses, good helpful support and being a condescending pr!ck?

well let me educate you.. you are NOT the former. just cause you can't actually fix it or answer a question straight or write proper instructions.. do'nt take it out on us.

Maybe that guy accusing you of pirating wasn't far off... maybe you actully had to get someone else to code it, which is why you can't answer straight questions and get all defensive about your horrible instructions.

well, in the least, it seems he was correct about your character.

then you're lucky. obviously, plenty of others (not just me) aren't.

yah, its true, coders have to put with a inordinate amount of annoying questions... but if he's so knowledgeable that shouldn't be a surprise to him, nor should be used as an excuse to be condescending to anyone with a questions he finds "below him". All other coders I've seen here handle it with grace and courtesy.

So, yup...he's not required to answer questions... but likewise, neither is it unreasonable to expect some support if he marks it as "Supported hack"--ESPECIALLY for one that requires a PURCHASE, nor was it required to be defensive, reactionary baby and put-down others with legimate questions when he finally did reply about it (talk about arrogant). I'm not required to take it either...just cause he obviously has some serious insecurities to have an attitude like that over simple questions.

I can live without the hack (sux aobut the money, but oh well), or ask someone who ain't a insecure bish to help out, but sadly for him there isn't a bug fix for him the poor image he has just created for himself by being a condenscending pr!ck.

I've been on the board for long time with hundreds of hacks installed at one point or another... to all who may reead this: he is simply the rudest, most patronizing, uncooperative coder with the weakest instructions with the most passive aggressive support I've ever had to deal with.

It is telling that this is the first time I've had issue with a coder's attitude after all this time. I know I am not alone in thinking this either. Absolutely unacceptable for a hack that requires a paid for script.

To Zig and others with problems with this mod:

1. Here is the "full vBversion" of the slideshow.php which genius over here didn't seem it necessary to tell people you have to request from the joomala coder and was needed for implementing his mod. use it in lieu of the one in the first post download.

Yup the slideshow.php uploaded here by lamea$$lionel doesn't work (for many). And you have to request a different one from joomala (which, yes, defeats the purpose of having it here).

2. NOTE: You still have to purchase the Frontpage slideshow from joomala to get the the needed files (mod_fpslideshow_1.1.zip), so don't think you're getting anything free. this is what SHOULD here for download with this mod.

I don't think you quite understood what I'm asking... what does your mod do to make it work / interact with the Joomla mod? I don't want to pay to download the Joomla mod only to see the specifics of how it does (from a site owner's perspective) what it does.

I don't give a damn about whole your post but there is one thing that is sure.

You have absolutely no RIGHT to redistrubute someone else's codes.

As the coder stated several times he is not releasing the full version here since he doesn't want pirated versions to use it and look at the clever guy around , you , has no respect to anyone and release the script without any premission.

Because of people like you noone is willing to share anything at vb.org.

You shall know that even a hack is supported the author have a right not to support everyone especially if the question has been asked and answered before. You may have tons of free time but most people don't. And answering the same question over and over again takes tons of times.

fine. didn't think it a different big deal thing.

but I have no idea what the last part of yoru paragraph meant "look at the clever guy around, you ," :confused: .. I think you had typos. but whatever taken off.

don't overstate. you know nothing about me and I don't see any problem with releasing code here. plenty out there and as far as I can 99% of the coders release code fine and with no drama. if he wasn't such a pr!ck...it wouldn't have been an issue at all.

that's the problem. maybe you should give a damn. You seem to have an stong opinion about the results, which is fair enough, but maybe you should look at the CAUSE and see which would have been a simpler solution this.

questions were NOT answered at all and it wasn't the same question. and if some others were.... too f-in bad that if he is too much a baby to handle it.

So precious to him...
he should be smart enough to realize maybe he should have just answered it clearly in the first place, added FAQ links in the first post, or wrote decent instructions... or stopped being such a pr!ck so he wouldn't have to deal with crap like this or repeatign himself etc. he would have saved much aggrevation on both sides. especially with a PAID for script...he should know better.

99% of the other coders do it and manage it without resorting to petty put downs. its a crying shame he can't... but he made his bed, I don't feel bad if he has to lie in it. defend that all you want.

Lizard King 03-12-2007 11:25 AM

As i stated , coders have a right to support anyone they want to because it is their own code and they release it free for people here. If the question is asked in a proper way the coder will answer the question. If the question will be asked in an irrogant way the question will not be answered. If the question has been asked and answered before , and again someone else comes and asks the same question it will not be answered.

Most coders are not releasing their job here because of people exactly like you. People like you appriciate nothing , no effort at all and release coders works without permission. Also people like you complain everything. Thats why if you check vb 2.3 forums and vb 3. hack release forums and compare number of Major hacks released against 3.5 , 3.6 you will see the difference but i don't expect you to understand anything.

I don't need to give a dam to your long post because all your points are useless and i explained why. I dont like to repeat myself.

I read the thread and i can easily find an answer to all avaible problems with this hack. If you can't that is your own problem. Maybe it is time for you to hire an technician for your board or improve your knowledge.

Lizard, no need to argue with someone who does not understand the difference between post and thread and is complaining because posts in the THREAD do not display in slideshow. The guy can't even read the basic first post. More than 30 people installed without problems.

I like helping people, but a minimum of amount intelligence is required.

ZiG 03-12-2007 03:41 PM

well besides the whole... 'amount of required intelligence you should have to deserve support from the author of this script'...I still didn't get my full version of slideshow.php that I requested from the developer over 12 hours ago.

lionel you should probably put the e-mail in the OP or something, I sent my e-mail over to sales@joomlaworks.gr and have yet to receive a response so I'm not really sure if that was the right place to request the full version. I'm kind of getting tired of waiting, third day now and I'm still dealing with 1) this thread, and 2) installing this script. Should take me 2 hours max to deal with installing any script, period.

Quantnet 03-13-2007 01:55 AM

Lionel,

I've been looking at your site for a while and try to find a way so that this script blends better on my front page. I like what you have on your site.

What would you suggest to make this looks better on vba ? should i make it the same width with the other columns?

Lionel 03-13-2007 02:09 AM

I like your new look. I would only change the width in the module. I believe there is also a place I harcoded it to 396 instead of $width.

The way I did mine, I added left column width + right column = columns, then I did site wide size - columns, keeping in mind the spacing.

The developper also gave me the idea of making the bottom digits strip long. That's in the css

Thanks,

Would you mind sharing the css ? It took me a while to change it to how it is now. The default does not look good on my site.

I really like how you have the long bottom digit strip. Much better
Also, the digits are white when unselected and yellowish when selected

Specially, the white border on top and bottom of your News (forum title). It makes that stand out really nice. How did you do it ? :)

Also noticed that your flash window does not have the extra white gap under it. Mine has around 10px under it.

I have played around with the arrangment a bit, move it to the rightside....make the side 360x270 , etc..

Please take a look if you can and make suggestions. I really appreciate it.
Would look for the css email later today.
Thanks

ZiG 03-13-2007 07:19 PM

ive got this working just fine in the vbadvanced, im currently trying to get it to work with vbportal

i made a seperate slideshow.php file and configured it properly, and created a new php center block in vbportal with no templates and the code:

Quote:

global $db, $vbphrase;

@include_once('path/to/filefromthread/slideshow.php');
it seems to access the php file just fine, however for some reason the javascript isn't working properly and i get javascript errors and the page doesn't load

Quote:

Line: 69
Char: 2
Error: 'playButton' is null or not an object
Code: 0
I understand this mod was made for vb advanced, but I use vbportal as well and I don't think it would hurt to try and figure out how to get it to work on both. if anyone has vbportal and wants to help me try and figure out whats wrong, please do. I'll continue on my own anyway.

If you are making that column 360, then remember that you are adding padding to the slideshow too. If the padding is 2px then you need to make the slideshow 356 px (360 minus 2px times 2 for both sides)

Great news zig

I just bought the software tonight, and I'm having the same problem as everybody else - downloaded the slideshow.php module from this thread (WTF is it there for anyway when it doesn't work?)

Do you have an email addy that you could let me have to ask for the correct VB slideshow.php module please?

Thanks in advance
Alan

as stated in first post, request it from the seller.
it's there like that because someone posted a pirated version. If this is a problem, I could ask a mod to delete this hack.

One final bit of help needed if possible........... I have checked and tried changing things in the css sheet, but just can't seem to manage changing the title colour from black to a different colour.

Could anybody point me in the right direction please?

Lionel 03-14-2007 04:17 PM

This is defined in mod_fpslideshow.css (fpss_introtext h1)

Quote:

/* Add custom styling here, per your needs! */
.fpss_introtext h1 {font-size:14px;margin:0px 0px 4px 0px;padding:0px;}
.fpss_introtext h1 a {color:#ffcc00;}
.fpss_introtext h1 a:hover {color:#FFCC00;}
.fpss_introtext h1 a:visited {color:#FFCC00;}
.fpss_introtext h2 {font-size:12px;margin:0px 0px 4px 0px;padding:0px;}
.fpss_introtext h3 {font-size:11px;margin:0px 0px 4px 0px;padding:0px;}
.fpss_introtext p {margin:0px 0px 0px 4px;padding:0px;}
.fpss_introtext img {display:none;} /* this will hide images inside the introtext */
.fpss_introtext p img {display:none;} /* this will hide images inside the introtext */

bluesteel 03-14-2007 05:06 PM

Yes, I know that Lionel.
I just can't get the syntax/command correct.
This is what I have tried, but the title remains black. I'm obviously doing something wrong :(

/* Notice: Add custom text styling here to overwrite your template's CSS styles! */
.fpss_introtext {}
.fpss_introtext h1 {font-size:14px;font-color:#FFFF00;margin:0px 0px 4px 0px;padding:0px;}
.fpss_introtext h1 {font-color:#FFFF00;}
.fpss_introtext h1 a {}
.fpss_introtext h1 a:hover {}
.fpss_introtext h2 {font-size:12px;margin:0px 0px 4px 0px;padding:0px;}
.fpss_introtext h3 {font-size:11px;margin:0px 0px 4px 0px;padding:0px;}
.fpss_introtext p {margin:0px 0px 4px 0px;padding:0px;}
.fpss_introtext img {display:none;} /* this will hide images inside the introtext */
.fpss_introtext p img {display:none;} /* this will hide images inside the introtext */

/* --- End of stylesheet --- */

PS Thanks for the swift response

Lionel 03-14-2007 05:33 PM

try doing color:#FFFF00;

instead of font-color:#FFFF00;

bluesteel 03-14-2007 05:41 PM

I think we must be in the wrong area!

I tried that Lionel, and it changed colour ok, but the wrong one lol

Looks like in IE6, the background color (where you have the intro text over it) are black while in FF, IE7, Opera, it's a light transparent gray where you can the background color through it.

Hopefully the 1.2 version fixes this.
