Eh, I got it sorted out now I think.

Thanks though!

It's working guys, to actually make the portal work without so many mods on the template is using the <base> directive as suggested earlier.

Insert right below the <head> in PORTAL template:
Code:

<base href="$vboptions[bburl]/" target="_self" />

Thank you so much!

This one line instruction has saved much head scratching. Having installed, I was a little miffed that the layout and links were incorrect. But reading the thread from top to bottom has proved very worthwhile.

@ Kerry-Anne, is it too presumptious of me to ask that this single instruction be included in your installation notes? I am sure it would help quite a few people who run the portal outside the forum folder.

Great portal, I am looking forward to reviewing and installing other modules for this.

:up:

I have included 2 attachments to show what a huge difference this one modification makes.

Cheers!

** Edit To Add **
When I log off, the portal looks like the first screenshot, so I guess I missed a modification out.

I just read through all 14 pages thus far, and unfortunatly have a unique problem.

i installed the portal outside of the forums (http://rkccs.com), and i have the forums set as a subdirectory (http://forums.rkccs.com). they are linked, as you can see, through the header links at the top.

however, on the portal, the navbar paths are showing (http://rkccs.com/register.php) instead of (http://forums.rkccs.com/register.php)

do i have to edit the navbar template to show the full URL path? or is there another way?

masterme 02-27-2007 06:13 PM

Uninstalled...

:( Have asked 2 times a simple question but no answer. Shame, really would loved it to use it...

Is it somehow possible to give the portal another template than the forum?
I use a design which does not work fine with this portal, the sidebars do'nt show etc.
So if it would be possible that I can add another design which I share with only the portal, that would be neat.

The templates are written to use the vBulletin style, however you can change this through extensive modification of the templates used. This will be done at your own risk.

That is correct and I am aware of this. There will be a fix for this in the next version, but that is not expected for a while yet.

The only way around this for now is to not use redirects in the forum that you are taking the news from.

The base instruction will be added to the instructions in the next release. The issue with the logging out is not one that I have come across before.

If it doesn't work you will need to edit the navbar to use the full URL.

Can you confirm where your vBonjour is installed and where your forums are?

wpeloquin 03-01-2007 01:35 AM

that last worked, thank you.

however, i noticed that when browsing it via IE7, it doesn't line up properly on the right side. i attached a picture for you. I'm not sure if this is just something with IE7 or not, but thought you might be interested in it nonetheless.

i have not tested it in IE6, only firefox and IE7. it works perfectly fine in firefox.

Love this hack. (Have marked it as installed, too.)

I've been occasionally having some problems with portal posts. This only happens with posts that include special formatting, so possibly it's just an issue with the code properly dealing with all possible cases. When this problem occurs the post body fragment is fine, but the post title includes text that should not be there.

Here is an example...

The title should read simply:

Quote:

What Features Do You Like in banner exchanges?

However, it's reading as...

Quote:

[/PHP] That is just an Example of Code so :-) Yeah, I still am working on it it's going to be very secure, which Is taking me the longest to fix for the password enc and dec type... Well just leave suggestions :-)" target="_blank">What Features Do You Like in banner exchanges?

For reference, the post causing this problem is...

Code:

Hello Everyone!!!

As some of you know I am currently working on a banner exchange script which is going good but had to scrap half of it, it wasn't loading fast enough. Just to let you know I have the total 5 Beta testers so far. Needing 5 More! For once i release the script, but anyways what I came here to post is what do you like or what do you think should be in a banner exchange, like special features, like

Paid Services -
Intergrated Support
3D Stats - Maybe in Flash or Something.
Live Stats,
Etc...

Please Post any Ideas as I am still working on this and would like to know what to create in this Script so I can rearange or reconfigure the MySql Database

But the Features are Including and Soon will include for all of the Script ownerz and Beta testers.

1.) Very Secure Script, For Example:

PHP Code:

<?php

if( $_GET['ref'] != "$url"){
die(
"SORRY!!! Accessing the Page is Restricted only to $url");
}
else
{
include
"./index.php?page=member_stats";
}

?>

That is just an Example of Code so :-)
Yeah, I still am working on it it's going to be
very secure, which Is taking me the longest to fix for the password
enc and dec type... Well just leave suggestions :-)

(Very minor addtional point, but just in case it matters, I should note that here at vbulletin.org, in the example post body above, the PHP Code block should be displaying "?>" at the very end, but it doesn't, although this works correctly on my forum. )

ComputerForumz 04-10-2007 03:26 PM

need desperate help on this:
check out my site: www.computerforumz.com
it seems to continue loading index.php even though i have already changed the default page to forum.php.

help!

subzero06 04-10-2007 03:30 PM

go to admin cp>>>vbulletin options>>forum home page options> and change the script name to forum instead of index.

Note: dont put forum.php, only forum without "php" at the end.

ComputerForumz 04-10-2007 04:18 PM

already did that.... this is what u get in the link above
actually, wasn't sure what i'm supposed to get, so i modified the .htaccess file to point to forum.php
but i guess that's not the point rite?

anyway, to see my problem now... goto www.computerforumz.com/index.php

i will modify the .htaccess file back once i get this problem sorted out.

ComputerForumz 04-10-2007 04:22 PM

it just does not display anything else below the horizontal menus... help???

newhere 04-13-2007 01:25 AM

This is a pretty nice mod. Thanks. A decent alternative to paying for vBadvanced just for a little homepage.

One question I have though, I notice in my news articles, someone posted a thread with a youtube clip, (we don't use the youtube vB plugin / tag, it's just the default embed html tag) but the video does not show up in the article on the portal page. Anyone know why this is?

newhere 04-13-2007 01:51 AM

Oh I see, you are doing a regex replace to remove the tags from the preview.. why is that?

My solution is to only remove tags if the preview is larger than the allowed number of characters. Then alter the template to change it so that the "preview" when you mouse over the thread title is not the full html. (Just remove this, or change it to $news['title'] ) Now youtube posts show correctly. (though who knows what other kidns of bugs allowing this html could introduce. hmm.)

Awesome mod. Thanks again! Clicked install...

almightyone 04-14-2007 11:10 PM

how hard is it to get vbshout integrated into this system? i read the htread and didnt really see an answer just that it will work with it

BACANERIA 04-16-2007 07:03 PM

BBI-Ross 04-30-2007 07:55 AM

Hi,

I have noticed that when members login through the portal, it doesn't seem to work.

You type in your login details then it gives you the "thanks for logging in confirmation" then it goes back to the portal and shows that they have not logged in :( All the other login areas are fine on my site, it's just the portal thats affected.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Cheers.

What does this error mean: on portal.php?

Database error in vBulletin 3.6.5:

Probably a deleted or moderated thread or a redirect in the forum used for the news.

helix76 06-09-2007 02:36 PM

Newbie here. Everything installed fine but I can't get my forum to display in the front page of my portal. I'm assuming it's something to do with adding code to the portal template. The nav item comes up fine but I can't find anything on displaying the forum 'wrapped' inside the portal.

If you click here you get my portal www.helixpedia.com and here for my forum www.helixpedia.com/forum

It's a fresh vB install so the forum has only one test post.

Oh, I also have a wiki installed that I'd like the portal to wrap (www.helixpedia.com/wiki) - is this possible with vBonjour

Any takers?

Cheers

Admin Control Panel > Forums & Moderators > Forum Manager - select the forum you wish to know the ID for, then look at the top of the window.

I have an issue with the left column showing above the center news column, and the title area of a news post is stretched vertically with the collapse button above views and replies.
