Ted S 09-11-2006 09:08 PM

tobybird,
Whats showing up for the guest message? What is the url to your site?

tobybird 09-11-2006 09:18 PM

Hi Ted. Thanks for the reply. Nothing is showing up for the guest message.

It's just so odd because it was working that morning.

Also, I can get you the code from any of the templates that you might want to review.

I am sending you a pm with login information at the board has not been officially launched and user registration is turned off.

Ted S 09-12-2006 01:26 AM

I'm not having any problems seeing the message on your site as shown in the below screen shot. Perhaps you're not fully logging out?

tobybird 09-12-2006 02:13 AM

Well don't I feel like an idiot. So odd. I even checked it on two of my other systems - after wiping cache, history, etc. Anyway, sorry for all that and thanks for your help!

sabillondesigns 09-13-2006 04:15 AM

Ted S,

please can you help me out here..

i just installed this on my v. 3.6.0 and i have different styles...
for some reason it messed up the header on some styles...(like its keeps the logo image but the rest is gone..)

ever heard of this problem? how can i fix it? (the weird thing is that i didnt even change anythig in the header, i used the navbar template)

works great on most styles tho!

if you need a screenshot let me know...

thanks a lot!

m0nde 09-13-2006 06:07 AM

Hi Ted,

This is a great mod!
If it is placed in the header template everything's aesthetically pleasing.

I've noticed, however, that if I place the $welcomemessage string at the very bottom of the navbar template as vbSEO recommends, the welcome message is placed quite a distance below the navbar and appears mashed up against the top of my shoutbox (another mod I have installed).

Is it possible to add the option to remove some of the space above the table and another option to add space below the table?

Also, I'd like the option to remove the border.

I've tested the mod and everything works as advertised and the instructions are very clear!

bigdm 09-13-2006 09:44 AM

i have had this mod installed less then 24hrs.. and i got to say! I'm very impressed with its effect!

nice work :D

Aylwin 09-14-2006 12:30 PM

It works! It really works! I just installed this yesterday and today I've already noticed a jump in new user registrations! Thanks! :D

I can't help with the gap below the navbar (that may require some style-specifc tweaking) but I noticed the same missing gap below $welcomemessage and fixed it by simply adding a <br/> like so:
Code:

$welcomemessage
<br/>

Excellent mod. I have set this up in a few minutes and it has been invaluable as I have just migrated my old board from ezBoard and am now trying to announce to both exisiting members and also new ones.

Keep up the great work :alien:

Go into your Admin Cp, then the options tab and select the welcome headers option (at the end of the list). Edit the phrases and links to suit your needs.

Top Nurse 09-15-2006 06:00 AM

Installed into 3.6.1 and no problems! :D

Thanks for the hard work on this one. The global announcement feature is just what the doctor ordered. Do you take donations?

Gbml2u 09-15-2006 12:37 PM

Good jobs man!

Aylwin 09-15-2006 12:48 PM

I'd like to make a feature request. It would be nice if the "Enable One-View Welcome Headers" option didn't affect guests or having it as an additional separate option for guests. The point is, I don't want to annoy my registered users with the welcome headers but I want the opposite for guests. :)

Black Tiger 09-15-2006 12:52 PM

I second that request.:)

Okay, it seems I can do this by simply moving the if condition below the 'guest welcome message' part in the xml file. Problem is, now I think one view isn't enough. Users can quickly jump to their favorite forums without noticing the welcome header.

Is there any way to change "One-View" to configurable number of views? Or maybe some configurable timeout period?

Ted S 09-15-2006 11:39 PM

At this time the cookies track if you have viewed a message or not, there is nothing to track how many times they have been viewed. However, this would not be very hard for anyone who wanted it to code in.

ecansel 09-16-2006 01:35 PM

Avesome Thx.. No problem with 3.6.1

ColeEsque 09-16-2006 06:58 PM

After installed this mods I have gap beetween subforum tittle and forums. How fix it guys?
Edit:Solved by my self,UNINSTALL!!

adwade 09-19-2006 01:37 PM

I have an issue with vBadvanced's CMPS & the Welcome Header MOD someone here can probably identify. Without the CMPS, all works GREAT! Meaning if I go to my forums as a GUEST, the messages show up perfectly.

But if an unregistered user goes thru the CMPS Homepage first, the Welcome Msg never shows up. Then, when they jump onto my forums (since I have show only once toggled on) they don't see the Welcome Msg there either. As this is now the 2nd page they've hit of my website.

Any idea as to why it doesn't show up on the CMPS homepage?

NOTE: Nevermind, I just found it. I needed to add the welcomeheaders code to the Portal Output Global Variables under vBadvanced's CMPS AdminCP menu. Now it works just fine!

glenvw 09-20-2006 09:32 AM

I love this plugin!

Check these out:

http://www.warmislands.com
http://www.weddingstrategies.com

I am interested though in someone helping me make an additional feature to the hack or plugin.

Notice on this site:
http://www.weddingstrategies.com

I have added a picture to the right. I think it dresses it up. When a person registers, I would like to have the message box that now disappears, to be replaced by and identical size box with same picture but different message. Perhaps I could use it for updates, etc.

Can this be done easily?

Remember, what you say is easy is usually over my novice head...

Thanks Ted :)

Hi

Just installed this and now testing it thoroughly...
It appears that the unregistered/not logged in group and the registered group and the COPPA sees this messages

Code:

Hello benny it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?
Any ideas please, I tested with a spare account and when through all the usergroups that effect what the message says?

Ted S 09-22-2006 12:43 AM

What is the url to your forum?

bashy 09-22-2006 08:47 AM

ChrisBaktis 09-23-2006 03:20 AM

I upgraded this hack but when I go to change the guest message it takes me to the welcome_guest phrase but for some reason the forum keeps showing the old first_visit_message phrase...im not sure why.

Ted S 09-23-2006 05:10 AM

Try removing the hack entirely and installing it anew.

ChrisBaktis 09-23-2006 01:34 PM

I found out the problem was the template - still had the old variable in it. Thanks.

Does this work for 3.1.6 yet?

bashy 09-24-2006 10:14 AM

user02934123123 09-24-2006 01:19 PM

Just installed and is working fine on 3.6.1 - very nice features. All are working fine except the option to show a message to users who haven't posted in x days. I've got this configured to 30 days -- and have tested it by logging in with an account whose last post was longer than that (by quite a bit), and no message desplays (despite it being configured and customised, and enabled, in the AdminCP). All other messages (not registered, never yet posted, etc.) display properly -- it's just this one, which I really quite wish to use, that doesn't.

Any thoughts?

While I'm glad to support this hack, I can't support conflicts with other hacks simply because I don't know their code. From what I can tell, Dynamic Announcements does many of the things this system does but with a different backend -- I would recommend using one or the other and customizing as you see fit.

kaniksu 09-28-2006 07:48 AM

I installed this a week ago and noticed results almost immediately. A lot of new users are posting messages proclaiming to be long time lurkers, even had one person make their first post after being registered for over two years. I didn't expect to see results like this so soon, it's amazing what such a simple change to the welcome headers can do.
