I really like how these sites link to a user's favorite events, venues or scenes and then show which users are interested in similar things.

http://www.dodgeball.com/user?uid=38796

http://www.yelp.com/

It would also be helpful for admin to have the ability to disable custom profile designs and stick with a default template. It just keeps things cleaner and less cluttered.

Compare the Dodgeball user page to the same user's MySpace page -- ugghhh!
Don't get me wrong -- It's great to have a choice and there's something to be said for individuality and uniqueness, but those who can't live without the flashy, blinged out look are always welcome to link to their MySpace pages.

friendly 06-21-2006 09:44 PM

I thought so too. :) Some sites lend themselves to bling and others by nature of their content need to be more... shall we say... minimal and clean in appearance.

criscokid 06-21-2006 10:32 PM

Minimal and clean is my favourite and overall they are likely to be more sucessful for a number of reasons... easy on the eyes so people who are visually impaired can still use the site with easy... easy to use so people who aren't technically clued up and new to the 'net can use the site with ease. At the end of the day 'less is more'.

David, I issued the warning as soon as I saw the post concering the other mod. And, now I am going to go clean up the debate that occurred after the warning.

rabidkevin 06-27-2006 09:25 PM

If i put the Myspace Profile rewrite & Myspace UserCP rewrite that currently exist on to my forums, is it going to be a pain to revert back and use vbpsace?

Not at all, a simple revert of templates woulds all be needed, under 10 seconds.

Any updates on this vB Intense or Stangsta?

No I'm not a salesmen for them.

I'm just saying, a modification like this basically is going to break the social networking phenomenon. The clones such as phpfox and others that try to mimic myspace are all but imitations with no innovation.

After something has been imitated and duplicated enough it loses it's value.

Shaliza 07-01-2006 05:59 AM

How do you know every person will try to make some sort of myspace clone? You don't know that for a fact. Some people may want something like this just for themselves, friends & family.

Who cares?! Truth be told, this modification is going to have NO effect on the existing sites. The liklihood that a modification made to vBulletin could/would corrupt existing and established sites is highly unlikely.

If "social networking" loses its "value" as you put it, something else will come along and takes it place. Its how the net works.

The fact that YOU don't care for this modification can be rectified easily. Stop following this thread, stop posting in this thread, and don't install this modification when it is released. Tada, problem is solved!

I haven't seen any updates on this thread in a while. Other than the first initial posts about what you guys were working on, there hasn't been any posts since then except to say that you wont tell us anything until its worthwhile...

2 weeks... 3 weeks... nothing new. Can we hear an update?

Thanks :)

Qwest 07-06-2006 04:14 PM

Yeah it's not even really about a progress report as much just to let us know you're still working the project. A lot of coders seem to just quit projects and never announce it.

And with the history of this hack... well you can see why we are wondering.

haha. Well spoken.

On a lighter note, I am working to try and put together a big list of 'wannabe features' for the ultimate profile plugin. I am putting together a list of 'dream features', as I try to remember some of the ones we all brought to the table in the Zoints thread on this forum (which was deleted). So if you guys have a few minutes, please PM ME your list of "dream features" that you would want in your user profiles to make your forum better.

Then this list will be taken to the people working on the latest non-centralized profile solutions (Zlite, IP, VBspaces2... whatever) and let them see what the best ideas are and help them build their hacks.

PM ME HERE:

toolblast 07-10-2006 02:41 AM

Still no updates :( where are you guys!?

mightyb 07-10-2006 03:12 PM

I guess its not as easy as it looks coding this hack.

rabidkevin 07-10-2006 08:23 PM

hehe i think we all should stop getting our hopes up...

toolblast 07-10-2006 08:28 PM

Ok how about this question...

Is there ANY vb coder reading this message right now that:
a) believes he can code this hack
b) thinks he can do it in a timely manner
c) agrees that giving updates is important
d) would create this plugin for money if required

Please PM me or post in this thread your name and email. I would like to get in touch with you to discuss creating this hack/plugin and how much it would cost to do so. I have a budget I am willing to throw around if something like this can be done in a timely fashion. PM me, thanks!

influence 07-10-2006 08:50 PM

maybe they waiting for 3.6 gold to be out and then code it for 3.6 but then again they said it aint any big diffence with the coding in 3.5 and 3.6 and most current 3.5 hacks should work on it.

I am beginning to think that there will be no such hack like this on here unless you hired someone. Everyone is just bullshitting with their silent treatment or secretive or hiding things from us and then the end result is to suprise us with something we dont want on our community or some stupid catch

*back to ignoring this thread, please dont bump it back up*

toolblast 07-11-2006 05:11 PM

I agree with Influence.

Remember Influence that if they were going to 'wait until 3.6'.. then I would assume that news would be worthwhile meantioning... and they haven't made an announcement in such a long time.

And for that reason, I am now assuming that the project is on hold or scrapped and that they are busy working on other paid projects.

Thanks

Paul M 07-11-2006 05:25 PM

Toolblast ;

I have edited your post slightly - if you are willing to pay then please post your request in the service requests forum. Thanks.

toolblast 07-11-2006 05:50 PM

Will do. Thanks Paul for your post.

For everyone subscribed to this thread, I got impatient with waiting and decided to take matters into my own hands and develop the script myself along with Gio~logist (a respected Vb.org member that will not let you down).

Please post your list of 'dream features' for a new profile system as well as ideas for a script name here:

UPDATE: New URL: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=120874

Thanks everyone for your participation!

Shaliza 07-12-2006 05:10 AM

Wow, did you expect it whipped up in a month or something? Sweet mother of Jesus.

I am aware of that but you told the link shows no permission error and i gave you the correct link.

criscokid 07-12-2006 11:24 AM

If you take a look at post 224 you'll see that Toolblast posted "Please post your list of 'dream features' for a new profile system as well as ideas for a script name here" and gave a URL. The URL that he gave is the space where we're meant to throw ideas around. I suspect the moderators have closed the thread because it relates to paid for mod that may get sold on in the future (you'll see that mendtioned in the mod request form).

toolblast 07-12-2006 11:55 AM

Hi everyone

Sorry about the confusion. The thread Url WAS correct. But guess what... a vb.org admin deleted the thread for this reason:

Quote:

Hello toolblast,

I have deleted your thread "NEW CONTEST - Name that hack (prizes!)" due to:

=====================
Sorry no contests allowed.
Feel free however to just start a thread asking for name suggestions (if your hack will be released here at vb.org).
=====================

Greetings,

Marco van Herwaarden
Ridiculous? I think so. No contests? Thats pretty stupid in my opinion. However, I have started a new thread without meantion of any contest.

Go here:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=121001 <-- NEW URL

Thanks!

Yea pretty much by the way this thread started.

Check the date of the start of this thread.. and the date of this post.. which is post 13
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....1&postcount=13

So yea... we did expect it pretty quickly, they have coded items before so they are known to members of the forums so it was expected not to be a long coding process from how it came out of the gate based on what had been said at the start. Sure things change. Thats understandable. But no updates in a long time.

toolblast 07-13-2006 05:15 PM

Yes Kev, exactly the reason why we took matters into our own hands. Its time to get this hack done finally!! :)

Takamine334 07-13-2006 10:04 PM

I think it's so funny that the VBSpace didn't come out and I was the first to call BS on DannyVBT.

SuperFly 07-14-2006 05:05 AM

Funny it did come out, too bad its just not what half of the crybabies wanted.

Funny zoints does count, its just not what everyone wanted.

Zoints is VBSpace.
