Okay here are some requests, of course they are not professional, but they get from my strong wish to make this script better.
  1. Take out of “Glossary Tools” “Add New Glossary Term” and make it glossary global ( button on the search tab for example) with option to be visible on the forum menu bar (that’s will make your Glossary script much more friendly to knew users, and less clicks is always better).
  2. Instead of “Glossary Tools” drop down menu make a couple small image buttons “edit” and “delete” and place them on the right bottom corner. This will fit better to general VB design conception. If you will find these ideas attractive I can provide some images for you.
  3. Remove glossary.php main page (entering page with categories) and instead- from a navigation bar “Glossary” link make drop down menu with categories and maybe with optional “Add New” link
  4. Make a “last update” optional and editable from admin menu.
  5. Total amount of terms and numbers for each category will be good to have somewhere.
  6. Open “Add New Glossary Term” right from any highlighted text in the browser with right mouse click.
  7. . How about, in the crosslink drop down window instead of this useless phrase:” Click on the link for additional information about this term from our glossary“user will see actual explanation text limited with a certain # of words, of course, with “more”- link to the complete explanation
  8. I should start with this: this script desperately need “upload image from your computer” function with all capital letters!
    1. In this case you’ll need to split a glossary table on the two columns (because I hate when image attachment taking over whole row, it’s looks ugly doesn’t matter its left, center or right alignment).
    2. If image not available you can display their some info like a last update, authors’ username, category… (just like user information- left column from the post on the forums but only instead of user avatar- illustration for the glossary item)
  9. Appearance. Make glossary appearances optional at least in two styles: VBClassic (Linear Mode) like yours, and maybe “Glossary Mode” which will looks more light and transparency like a real book style.
  10. Several different meanings for one term, it happens very often… so let’s add second and third opinions to the one term and make its looks official
I’m done for now but I still thinking

artpapa 05-26-2006 05:24 AM

Please help me to remove “?”- Image and place for it.

This is something I havn't looked into much.

BeaLzeBuB: What are you going to try?

i'll use this hack except for its goal.. i need only crosslinks

i will try to use crosslinks to linking $thread[title], if it is possible

SS9267547 05-26-2006 10:49 AM

artpapa: Wow. Big list you got there but its good lol. To be honest, the development of the hack is almost at its end for me. There are only a few things that I need for it and after that I will be developing my next hack, just don't have so much time you know and everyone wants something different. Anyway lets answer that list.

1. I'm not to sure what you mean. If your saying to have a link on the navbar there is already one.

2. Well the way it is now is the way I want it. The original idea was to have somewhat the same feel the vb's FAQ section.

3. I don't really like that idea so I will not be adding that.

4. This is already done for next release.

5. Might add this if I get around with it.

6. Not sure what you mean.

7. I've been already asked 100 times for this. It says 'click here' at this time beucase there are a few bugs with having the text display. For example if they have images, smiles, etc. Just dosn't work. Plain text does. Anyway its on the works and when I have a working version of this it will be released.

8. I've tought about it however its way to much work for me to add this at this time, so for now I'll have to say no. You'll just have to use a gallery hack and simply link the image into your glossary.

9. Maybe for a future release if I get the time but really if you can just edit the templates to whatever you need them to look.

10. This is something I've been thinking about so it might get done or at least with the custom fields options you can when its done, well if I can get to it haha.

With your "?" you'll be able to remove that in the next release as a new option.

BeaLzeBuB: Yeah that should work. You could try using GAL if you wanted for that as well.

BeaLzeBuB 05-26-2006 12:13 PM

@SS9267547 sorry but what is GAL ?

Can I do this now somehow before you're done with release?

You see, #7 may connected with an #8 because you can have separate from image text and you can disabled smiles...
but anyway script is great and thank you very much.
but I will keep thinking

dendrob 05-29-2006 12:17 AM

Lucas, do you have an approx ETA for 1.1.3 ???

Geek Auto Linker. There is a free version here, or the paid version at their site.

dilbert 05-29-2006 12:35 AM

If I am not using crosslinking, do I need to do any of the template changes?

SS9267547 05-29-2006 11:19 AM

artpapa: In the meantime you can remove the '?' image via your main css options where you added the glossary code to at the very bottom, delete the image that is used. For more information to what I mean look in the install readme.

dendrob: I can't really say, I've been try to get this released but I havn't had much free time in the past week and a half. Anyway before I release the new version I need to first finish the install text and then it'd be done for this version. So lets cross our fingers and hope I finish this week! lol

dilbert: If your not using crosslinking all you have to do is disable the option in your settings, no template changes needed.

mccollin 06-05-2006 07:35 PM

I have what is probably a stupid question, but I can't figure it out. I assume my answer is in the "extra css" that got added, but I don't see a font color to change. My problem is that the hover text is white on a very light yellow background and so it is unreadable. Which variable do I need to change to get the font color black or some dark color so that it can be read. Otherwise, this is an awsome hack that my users will love.

dendrob 06-05-2006 07:48 PM

I am crossing everything I've got !!! $20 says, you won't finish it by Wednesday ! ;)

dendrob 06-08-2006 01:16 AM

Just curious, are you planning to port this hack to 3.6 ?

It works fine as it is on 3.6.0 Beta 1, as far as I can tell.. :)

dendrob 06-09-2006 02:23 PM

Oh !!! Sweeet !!!

UltraVR 06-09-2006 04:27 PM

First of all, I would like to thank you for this outstandingly wonderful product! I appreciate the great coding and hard work you have put into it!

I have a few bugs to consider on your next release, as I think fixes for them will really enhannce the performance.

1) On the "Add Glossary Term" Screen (the one using the WYSIWYG editor, not the one in the AdminCP), it would be nice to have options to place the term online and specify the category.

2) On the search results, crosslinked items do not parse the links, but show them like: "<a href=etc". This makes the search results bulky and such. It would be great to see the links show up.

Thanks again for your hard work!

offline 06-14-2006 07:42 PM

Hola,

Awesome program. I have converted over from cinq's glossary because of lack of support. There are a few things I noticed that seem to not crosslink properly...

1. Punctuation, if the term has a period at the end it will not link.
2. Paranthesis.... example... Ca(OH)2 ... will not cross link.

Ohh, it would be really cool if it would give the glossary definiton when a user mouses over the word... I was doing this with cinq's version.

Anyways, like I said... great program, keep the awesome work up and thanks!!

dendrob 06-15-2006 09:06 AM

offline, all these issues were already addressed earlier in the thread

xBhp 06-17-2006 04:32 PM

a small deterrent for me : i cant find how the members can add their own glossary items, simply cant! can anyone guide me where is this option in the CP?

Bass Nutz 06-18-2006 05:37 PM

Strange, for some reason I don't have any admin controls? I can't add or edit a glossary.

Any ideas?

i dont want to appear overly enthusiastic about my question posted a couple of days agao, but can anyone please answer it as stated in the quote?

Bass Nutz 06-19-2006 08:21 AM

Once you set the permissions for what users can upload, edit, delete glossary items in the usergroup permissions in the admincp, they can add their own from the glossary section thats in the navigation bar. You'll see a spot on the side called "Glossary tools", from there they click "Add new glossary term" and whammy, done deal.

Hope that helps. :)

xBhp 06-19-2006 12:29 PM

the truth is staring right down your face and you choose not to see it, albeit unconciously. that was my pityful state.

thanks for opening my eyes Bass Nutz!

sinucello 06-19-2006 01:12 PM

Hi,

if someone is interested to combine this with TYPO3, please let me know. I`m currently creating a community site with TYPO3 and vBulletin and already use the a21glossary.

ciao,
Sacha

hotwheels 06-19-2006 01:20 PM

What is causing this error?
Quote:

Warning: preg_replace(): Unknown modifier 'R' in /includes/functions_glossary.php on line 49
I went to line 49 and added // but that just turns off the glossary......seem's to have something to do with the crosslinking, which i am not using.

hotwheels 06-19-2006 06:04 PM

nevermind.............the () was the issue there........

I do need some help though, figuring out how come i can't get the alphabetical listing like the one in this pic:

hotwheels 06-21-2006 12:27 AM

Just a bumpin to see if someone can figure out how to get the alphabetic bar to show........

Bass Nutz 06-21-2006 01:02 AM

I tried to look at it on your site to see what it looks like, but I can't find your glossary link?

If it's set up like it is on my site, you need to click on the "Basic Terms" in order to open up the section that has the alphabet part.

But, I could be wrong?

skokarl 06-22-2006 07:15 AM

sorry for this question ...

but I need the hack...and I don't know if this hack in 3.07 is supported...
I have a install parse error ... https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=111622
can somebody help me ? thanks

dendrob 06-29-2006 12:52 AM

Oh how I'd love to see 1.1.3 finally released ... My forum would be soooooo much better with cross linking working... Lucas, what's the time frame, any ideas???

SS9267547 06-29-2006 01:46 AM

Been a while since I've been able to get any work done so sry about that. The good news is that I hope in the next few days to get going again with the project. The bad news is I forgot where I left off with a few of the bugs so some bugs might be re-released again, which I hope I've fixed. If not report and it will be. In the meantime I'll answer a few of the questions.

dendrob: To answer a few of your questions. Yes this will be offical released for 3.6 after I get my act together to release this bloody update and to answer when, lets say this week? lol

UltraVR: What do you mean when you say "it would be nice to have options to place the term online and specify the category." I think you can right now? I mean you choose the category from the drop down list and then if your settings are set to post it online it will. Do you mean something else on the matter? With the other issue with the search it has been addressed, well it will once I get to releasing the update ;)

Bass Nutz: Still having those admin problems in post #223?

sinucello: a21glossary a glossary script for TYPO3?

hotwheels: The preg_replace error has to do with the crossing linking option and if you get the error you will need to disable to option at this time. As for the alphabetical list it only shows once you choose a category like Bass Nutz said.

skokarl: Sry but I don't have much time to take a look at what the issue might be. Nevertheless to figure out what the error might be I will need you to post what the error said.

jaks 07-01-2006 03:02 AM

Great hack!!!

I did some modifying to the phases and changed the names of the php files and all references to them in the files themselves for SEO purposes and so it matches what I'm using it for. Except of course your little blurb :)

Anyway the only problem is the I can't add categories or anything else now. The menu works in admin. I can fillout the new category page but when I submit I get a 404 error. Is there any phrases controlling this part of the submission? Any idea what I could have missed or where I should look?

Just to recap: Everything works except adding/edit categories and new glossary terms( I'm calling them facts ) I can see all pages from admin except when submitting any of the forms.

Thanks Jaks

Update: I figured out the problem. I changed the references to mod_glossary.php in the product file by accident when I editted the files. It's working fine now :D

The new version, which is said to be out in a day or two will fix that bug.

Snake 07-02-2006 05:59 PM

And how did you know about this new version thing you are talking about?

vivamexico55 07-02-2006 06:34 PM

Anxiously awaiting the fix for line breaks =)

(also clicked install =)

jaks 07-03-2006 10:57 AM

Ok I'm a little confused here. What is the latest version because after reading 98% of all these post, I'm missing some functions. The 1.1.1.3 version I was thinking was 1.1.3 but the install file says 1.1.1 so I'm guessing the latest is 1.1.2.3? I see so many numbers. 1.1.13, 1.1.3, 1.1.1, 1.1.2.3.

Sorry for being stupid.:knockedout: Still a great hack...

Edit: np, got it all figured out now lol. 1.1.2.3 is the latest. Working great except for the known bugs. :)
