I have 3.0.7 now. I like the plugins and other features. I would like to install 3.5.0 in another folder. and start to stylize and prepare for the change over. I have a database of 400 members I don't want to loose as well as Coppermine gallery that needs to be integrated as well . I need to have 3.5.0 running and 3.0.7 running but on the same My SQL database as 3.0.7 which has all my members and their garage, timeslips and countless other hacks. Seems like a big deal for me I guess. :(

You shouldn't run both 3.0 & 3.5 on the same tables.

Chris M 10-04-2005 12:29 PM

3.5 has additional fields, tables and data that is needed for it to function that a 3.0.7 database does not have - You could add these manually but it could cause one of your boards or even both to stop functioning...

It is not recommended...

It won't work - template changes etc need to be done - unless you want to recode vB3.0.7 to use a separate template table, then you can't run 3.0.x templates with 3.5.0 templates (refer to the latest post in the vB.com thread).

Interesting challagne.
If templates are the only problem, I think it could work with a temporary edit:

- Take the 3.0 MASTER Style XML, make it into a custom Style and import it as a new Style
- Reparent all Top-Level Styles to this new Style
- Make replace_template_variables() do nothing
- Upgrade
- Restore default behaviour of replace_template_variables()
- Re-Import the 3.5 MASTER Style

Then you should have 3.0 and 3.5 compatible Templates in the same table.
Disclaimer: This is just a theoretical idea

I will probably upgrade in a month or two. I may only have three actual hacks on my board, but I'd like them to get upgraded first, if at all possible. I'm running 3.5.0 on my localhost, though, and some of the new plug-ins are amazing!

VBUsers 10-26-2005 02:19 AM

i am upgrading but my upgrade stops at 3.0.8. i had 306 and now it wont move from the attatchement table edit it was doing. is there a problem with my prefix or is this a common issue ? can some please help.

ok now i passed the 3.0.8 and im on to 3.0.9. but the one table in my database thats giving me the issues is the attatchment table. everytime it trys to make the edits to it it freezes and doesnt move. what can i do i keep having to delete the tables that is put in by the upgrade everytime i try to troubleshoot. can some one please tell me if i can do the SQL edits manually and skip the upgrade to the DB?

getting this now

Well depending on the number of attachments and their size, this upgrade step could take a long time (it might still be running when you think it has frozen).

I suggest you post at vb.com to get support on this.
