So a large site that is running vb1 should not upgrade?

Strawman argument. There are no large sites running vB 1.0.

It's hard for me to wrap my mind around someone intelligent not understanding the point. The POINT is, "upgrading" just for the sake of upgrading isn't a valid strategy, and is demonstrably not necessary. There's no compelling reason for it. "Modern is good and nice" is not a compelling reason, and it's not even accurate. "Modern" is slow, clunky and bloated.

Now, if you're in the forum hobby just to please yourself and really aren't concerned for your membership, upgrading willy-nilly just to satisfy your ego is all well and good.

Almost all of the "not modern" stuff is in the presentation layer. Reworking the templates (still not a trivial task) could modernize the site without upgrading either the underlying engine or the database.

I think thats enough of this pointless going round in circles.
