It sounds as if you're overthinking it without trying it. It's been a while, but as I recall all this does is add an option to the appropriate dropdown for instant notis alongside the default vb options of delayed notis.

Yes, I suppose if done right RSS would work, if they're savvy enough to implement it. FWIW, I recently noticed Tapatalk has instant notis of subscribed threads but after a day or two of the constant bonging I turned them off.

I don't think there is an over-thought here. :)

I just have users that are looking for a "feed" that alerts them of any activity that takes place (be it new threads, new posts, etc) within a sub-forum --- Without ever having to manually subscribe. The user would only subscribe once to the forum/sub-forum they choose and get all the updates they need.

The daily digest which is built in works. And this plugin for instant thread-only notifications works. But vBulletin has no way of notifying users of new posts in existing threads... threads that the users are not aware of. Users have to subscribe to each individual thread manually if they want instant updates.

I am guessing that this isn't a feature because of how busy the server would be with every post alerting users who subscribed instantly. But this particular kind of "feed" notification would be used in a forum with low activity, and low post count.

Stop and think for a minute what you're proposing though. Forced email subscriptions regardless if you want it, unless you manually opt out. Really Bad Idea IMHO.

And have you thought ahead a bit to when people's email addys start going bad? Members drop out, drop dead, change ISP's, etc. Bad enough to have a ton of bounced emails from those that purposely asked for the emails!

It's a bad idea for a public forum, that's for sure. But a good idea for a private forum used for business / projects in software development. Keeps people in the loop of new threads and new posts therein. Emails won't go bad because if an employee drops, their forum account is inactive/deleted. Subscription emails don't apply then.

Regardless of all this, my lazy users will stick to Daily Updates for Thread + Post updates :) Choosing "Instant" with this plugin is only for threads and that is not good enough for them.

Thx, really useful :)

Has anyone had problems with bad formatting with HTML when the emails are sent? I seem to have a problem where people have changed the color of a font.. See example below

COLOR=#333333]pro: exterior looks great
COLOR=#333333]pro: /COLOR]iphoneCOLOR=#333333] connector in convenient location
COLOR=#333333]pro: generally feels more solid
pro: not forced to have tinted rear windows
COLOR=#333333]pro: has upmarket appeal, has 'the badge'

Many thanks

Adam

I'm very interested in the Instant New Thread Notification. Could you may tell me if there is a way to use it with vB 4.2.x?

It should work with any vb4 version. Are you having some specific trouble?

I don't think anyone needs this mod anymore because it is already built-in vb board.

I don't think that's true. "New Thread" notification is basically subscribing to a forum, and if you subscribe to a forum (without this mod installed) for some reason you aren't given the option of "Instant Notification by Email". This mod adds that option.
