This worked perfectly on 3.8.7 for a new site I'm setting up :up:

I added an image as the background instead of just color. See here for a demo: United States History Forum

Edited: Also remember to add the a:link, a:visited, a:hover, and a:active CSS as well to ensure that your links are showing correctly since you are removing alt1 and replacing it with the new one (stickybg). :up:
