So, when someone signs up and confirms their membership, it will automatically add a "welcome" message to the 'getting started' forum that I created? Is this correct?

Since I'm a newb I definitely don't want to overdo it with things that I might be having issues with later.

No, this will automatically reply to threads in selected forums.

For example: You have "Member Introductions" forum where newbies are creating "hello, I'm new..." threads, and you have no time to reply to all of them. Then you install this hack, set messages to be posted and hack will do this job for you. You can write several messages, they will be used randomly in replies. There are other useful options... check attached screenshot and hack settings when install.
