That's a choice in the settings in AdminCP, Sidebar Column Settings.

User Column.
This option to display information of members. (Set to "Yes.")

Show Avatar in User Column
Do you want to display avatar of member on User column? (Set to "Yes.")

It won't show just the avatar, must have user information column set to display too.

Anyone know how to get it to show on the right side? For some reason it won't show for me when I change it :-/

I seem to recall that's answered earlier in the thread, something about a hook not being there in some custom styles? Not sure.
