Ye only 2 issues left for me:

the show all notifications link not working properly and the random symbols instead of a question mark,... in the PM previews.

Sadly i have disabled this product as it was causing lag issues on my site when I'm typing a message in a post.

I'll try and explain the best I can, it's unfortunate I can't record my screen to show you what I mean. But i'll explain it anyway.

I installed the product and all was fine and seemed to be working well. Did a few tests sending PMs and stuff to see it work.

Then I was typing a reply to a thread and I was looking at my keyboard as i was typing it but then when I looked at the screen I noticed lots of errors in my typing which i thought was odd. Lots of letters appeared missing. Firstly I didn't link this issue to this product being installed and I put it down to maybe my PC was doing something in the background which was using quite a bit of CPU every few seconds. So all I did was restart my PC.

Then I went back on to my site and tried again, and I noticed the same thing happening again, but I kept missing it because IO wasn't looking at the screen when typing. So I decided to hold down the button F and see it happen, and every few seconds I would notice it stop and then continue. This is the bit where letters were missing. So I opened Notepad and did the same thing, held down the letter F and not once did it stop. This told me it was my website and not the computer.

The next step I took was to disable this product as that was the last change I made to the site, and I removed {vb:raw livenotifications_header} from the header template. Refreshed my site and tested typing a message. Not once did it stop when i was typing. Then to test it further I enabled the product and added the line back in to the header template, refreshed my site and did another test, and it kept stopping every few seconds. So I did the test again and I have copied the results from both tests so you can see what issue i'm facing.

This sentence was typed when the product was disabled and the code removed from the header template:

This is a test of me typing a long sentence and seeing if any of the letters are missing in the words like it was earlier when i have the social notifications 5.0 product installed and enabled.

As you can see the errors are evenly spread out throught the sentence which indicates the issue happens every few seconds.

For me this has confirmed that this product is the cause of this lag, however why it is causing it is unknown.

So for now disabled and marked as uninstalled.

Hey mate, this issue is easily fixed by turning up the Ajax Interval:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2012/06/4.png

Basically, you are pinging your database more than your server can handle. Setting this to 30seconds or even 45 seconds will remove this issue on your site.

daveaite 06-21-2012 08:50 PM

<font size="3">Updated to 5.2</font>
A few small tweaks
-Set more realistic starting values
-Better server performance. Adjust accordingly.
-css tweaks

If you are experiencing any sort of lag, just increase your Ajax interval. All servers are different but the difference in increasing the value by a few seconds, can make a huge different in performance, and this will solve your issue.

To install, uninstall old version, reinstall.

Some of my members are reporting the same problem despite having this setting at 60 seconds. I believe they are all using firefox.

This doesn't appear to be a server issue though.

I'm getting reports from some members that the notification alerts (wee numbers in red) aren't appearing in either Google Chrome or Safari. They are working for me using Firefox 14.0b7 and working for others using earlier versions of Firefox.

We experienced the same thing since one of my GMs set it at 5 seconds. When I switched it to 30 seconds, all was fine.
