It's editing memory. Not a lot can be done about it without rewriting the game.

Ive just done mine and got permission errors too. The I realized I need to reapply the code into relevant php files.

Redownload the arcade and modify these files again

Did you redo any file edits that you overwrote with the upgrade? (I assume there are some, but have no idea.)

Quick question on the stats displayed in the arcade. What does "Average PING" indicate?

sabret00the 04-17-2004 02:05 PM

ok, i've seen alot of people post about settings not saving but i'm yet to see a fix, i thought it might be down to having the table settings from the proarcade left over but i'm not sure, is their a fix in sight at all?

Amzadi 04-17-2004 04:10 PM

The only one I'm having a problem with is Jewels. I had to disable the game because of it.

Description:
All this does is add two stats to your Arcade's main page:
1) Total number of games played.
2) The length of time spent playing them.

There is only one file edit, and one template edit for this hack.

This will add one query to your Arcade homepage. No others. Just that one.

regarding the mini stats addon: If you prune scores I believe it removes the total time playing? Can this be changed?

Packet InterNet Groper is a program and UNIX command that helps testing and debugging network and/or Internet connections. An 'Echo' command is sent to a specified computer and then waits for a response. The result is a report that displays the success or failure, usually a report back of a timed response in seconds, of the intended action.

Ping also works in Windows through TCP/IP. In DOS/WINDOWS, at the DOS prompt, enter PING and the IP address or the domain name of the server you want to test. If you get replies the server is up. If not, it may be down or there may be a problem between you and the server (such as a downed phone line). To test this, perform the command TRACERT with the same IP address or domain name.
The arcade takes the PING for all sessions and shows the average ;).

I upgraded as well and it works fine, just go through all the steps again.

That's the part I don't understand ... why? For Bob or Fred playing Space Invaders... why does it matter to them? Even for me as the webmaster, what do I gain by seeing these figures? Not being a smart ass here, it's just that I don't understand the reason why ping average is included in the arcade stats.

If the ping is amazingly high or amazingly low, there's a certain probability that the user cheated in some way.. I guess it's just handy to have the evidence in front of you if you suspect someone.

The ping doesn't get shown to anyone but the admin anyway.. :)

I've had users asking about it... that's what brought me back here to find out more. I'll just do a minor template edit I guess and not worry about it. Appreciate the info.

Intex 04-18-2004 08:16 AM

Is there a location where all the games can be downloaded. Proarcade had a different thread where you could grab them.

Oblivion Knight 04-18-2004 08:22 AM

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=60666

Here is the v3 Arcade's list of games..
Though people generally release their games at http://www.v3arcade.com now instead.

Intex 04-18-2004 11:51 AM

Thx. Appreciated :).

Find in arcade.php
Code:

// Selects all games from the database
        $result_allgames = $DB_site->query("
                SELECT * FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "games $searchclause ORDER BY gameid DESC
        ");

Change ORDER BY gameid DESC to ORDER BY title ASC

mlevenson 04-19-2004 12:31 AM

is there a way to show who is in what game in the arcade?

007 04-19-2004 03:06 AM

Anyone played that smack the penguin game? You need to add that game in here. It's extremely addictive. :) I'll be installing this for sure when I finish upgrading to VB3.

john?

Amzadi 04-20-2004 08:22 AM

I'm betting it's not an error at all. I had problems with Jewels but once I reloaded it, the problem went away. Anyway, my money is it's all based on your servers bandwidth and cpu speed.

I've been monitoring my server (local, not hosted by someone else) with a full t-1 line (1500kbps up/down) and I have no problems running over 70 of the games and a busy forum with over 30Gb of downloadable attachments and PhotoPost Gallery files. The biggest drain is cpu usage. It was banging my cpu up to 100% at times. Once I moved it from a 1.7GHz server with 1Gb ram to a 3.2GHz server with 2Gb ram it's been perfect!

I think John said he's working on a release that isn't so cpu intensive, but don't quote me.

First of all... A MASSIVE THANKS to John for an excellent Arcade System. People should not understimate the skill that jas gone into this fine piece of work!

Overall, works great, but I have the following minor issue:

Whenever users logout, they receive the following error message...

"An error occurred while attempting to log you out. Click here to log out."

Clicking the link in that line, then logs them out correctly.
Any ideas what's going wrong?

insanctus 04-20-2004 06:05 PM

/me clicks install

I never used this in vb2 (thought my members would have no use for it) but they are loving it.

Bryan Ex 04-20-2004 11:12 PM

Awesome hack and running great on my site. Just wondering if their are any games a little more... um... er... adult in nature available? I'm guessing not but it never hurts to ask. :nervous:

Amzadi 04-20-2004 11:36 PM

Since I run an adult board, adult games would be nice.

JaNa 04-21-2004 10:37 PM

This is 2093572890529502958029786862908629067902570190x better than IPB Arcade! (A bit of exxaguration ^^)

That's a problem with not updating your logout links to include "&userid=$bbuserinfo[userid]" after "do=logout" :D (New requirement to prevent automated logout via iframe/swf, added in 3.0.1)

JamesFrost 04-22-2004 05:13 AM

John,

I just updated to VB3.01 and arcade 1.02 (from RC4 and arcade 1.00) , and a few games (chopper challenge, space invaders) have dissapeared. Everything else is working OK.

any ideas what might have caused this? Is there an 'upgrade step' after making the file / template mods.

thanks

James Frost

JamesFrost 04-22-2004 09:27 AM

I've checked the arcade game settings in AdminCP - the games are there and enabled, but still do not show up. :(

dina 04-22-2004 10:46 AM

Am I the only one who can't find a "Page 2" function at the game page? I have installed a lot of games, but I can only see the last 5-6 games on the page. I can, however, access them by changing the gameid in the url. But surely, there must be a "Page 1 - 2" function for this?

good spot - this looks like the problem I am having also.

Edit - have now re-read the instructions and fixed problem. RTFM!

STEP 2.
=======
Open your arcade_main template. At the bottom, add this on a new line (not
including the dotted lines!):
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

<br />
$pagenav

id also like to see some of those as my board is of an adult nature

BabesAndStuff 04-22-2004 06:54 PM

Is there any plans to add in a tournament mode with head to heads like the world cup with members being knocked out and advancing onto meet the winners of other matches until a finally would result in a winner .. this would be an excellent addition to an already brilliant hack

with admin able to decide which games are to be played - this would be a great way to run competitions on my site , if its possible at all and i know it would be a lot of work , but i think it would be very well received
