so, we have now established that the dupe posts are a problem...now can we mebbe establish if the author is gonna suppoort this, and if theres a workaround?

Kirk Y 09-27-2005 06:46 PM

If you scroll to the very top, you'll see that this hack is Unsupported. As I said earlier in this thread, I don't believe Zero supports any of his hacks.

c0d3x 09-27-2005 07:44 PM

so why release them? just don't release them if they're gonna not work...

i think that zero maybe is busy right now and can't give us support ;)

Zero is a great mod creator, one of the best around for vb. But I would agree with you. If your gonna release stuff, at least supply support for a little while. If it had of been an old hack I would expect no suport, but it's not an old hack.

Kirk Y 09-27-2005 09:20 PM

This hack works perfectly for me: no duplicate threads, no funky characters (in addition to the ones already present on the actual blog), and no problems with HTML.

Don't diss the author just because you couldn't get the hack to work. I didn't say that Zero was a bad person for not supporting his hacks, only that he does just that, not support his hacks.

NuclioN 09-27-2005 09:50 PM

It's an amazing hack, good job. Altough not supported i've a question. Is it possible to have a rss feed from an atom xml ?

If that's a reply to me, I'm not dishing the author. I have installed many of Zero's hacks and use his Welcome Panel now. I supose if people complain about the suport, like you said it is advertised before they install it. That support is not there as backup.

Kirk Y 09-28-2005 02:35 AM

I was mainly talking to c0d3x. He asked what the point was in distributing a hack that didn't work with no support.

Moya 09-28-2005 03:43 AM

I install and set up everything but it doesn't do anything on my board. It doesn't pull in any news even though I run the cron job manually.

Same here. Is there a way to get the output out of the new post search?

csidlernet 09-29-2005 01:17 AM

cool i'm gonna play around with it

Kirk Y 09-29-2005 01:38 AM

<a href="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=91025" target="_blank">https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=91025</a>

Opt out whichever forum you're posting the feeds into.

NuclioN 09-29-2005 06:05 AM

Thank you acidburn :) Very usefull!

Kirk Y 09-29-2005 06:49 PM

Yup, anytime.

Hey man I got that same error as well...I wonder if it has anything to do with vb 3.5 since this is shown working with a previous RC version??

Ummm ok what does that mean?

How can I find out what it is?

dieselpowered 09-29-2005 07:59 PM

Ok I just tried another feed from my other vBulletin board and I am still getting this error:

Fatal error: Unable to proceed with save while $errors array is not empty in class vB_DataManager_Thread_FirstPost in /includes/class_dm.php on line 758

Vizionz 09-29-2005 08:04 PM

means when your setting up the feed you have to make sure when your calling the feed that it actually has the fields your trying to recieve.

post what your putting in as a rss feed including the link to the feed

Vizionz 09-29-2005 08:23 PM

but i havent tried the rss feeds till now on the gold version and i am getting the same error as well so it might be something wrong with the hack

Ya I have tried a ton of different feeds, none of them will update. I think some things changed in Gold and this hacks does not work with it.

Vizionz 09-29-2005 08:40 PM

well its showing a feed i tried. but i still get that error so definetly something wrong with the hack but it will update feeds if you ad them

Ya it is only update one feed...and that is with me manually hitting the update button, although it errors, it does post one feed??

Time to hit **uninstall** :(

hmm, hope it gets fixed.

Floris 09-29-2005 09:37 PM

I've upgraded the forum to 3.5.0 gold, and now the news forum is getting bombarded with nothing but duplicates. My guess is some little things changed in 3.5 gold and the plugin might need to adapt . Hopefully it is something easy ;) Until I figure it out (or someone else) I have disabled the plugin.

Least you are getting feeds...I have to manually run the script to get them and it errors out, but post one thread.

I have uninstalled until it is figured out as well.

that happened with me before gold, and some other people have reported it

this wont work with atom feeds too, no matter what parameters you use ^_^ (google blog only uses atom)

That only parses URLs into BBCode. I no longer need this now that I'm using a Plugin to parse a specific user's posts.

I'm using 3.5.0 Gold and the hack is working fine. There are no duplicate threads and no PHP/SQL errors. From my standpoint, nothing has changed from RC2/3 to Gold that will adversely affect this hack's functionality.

@Xtreme: RSS/XML feeds must be direct. They cannot be dynamic URLs.

Good: http://www.blablabla.com/bla/feed.xml
Bad: http://www.blablabla.com/bla/feedpuller.php?rss=feed.xml

jribz 09-29-2005 10:05 PM

I haven't updated from RC3 to Gold yet, but for those of you having the duplicate posts error...

Run the feed manually by clicking update feed, then delete any posts that were a duplicate, then run it again to see if there are more duplicates.

This solved my dup problem on RC3 believe it or not, after running it twice the cron runs never duped for me.

~ just a thought ~ :ermm:

Used a test feed from msn:

http://spaces.msn.com/members/jpsdivings-page/feed.rss

dieselpowered 09-29-2005 10:15 PM

it has to be xml at the end

Kirk Y 09-30-2005 12:58 AM

No, .rss should also work.

The Plugin For Allowed Usergroup HTML:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=96926

Try this for a Feed and see if the error still shows: http://socomblog.typepad.com/socom/rss.xml

Vizionz 09-30-2005 02:17 AM

same error

Vierie 09-30-2005 07:06 AM

My Cronjob doesn't seem to be working. I always have to update manually. Can anybody tell me why or how I can change that?

thetoolman 09-30-2005 04:17 PM

ok i have just upgrade vb to 3.5 gold and now when i add a rss feed and click update feed, i get this error:

Fatal error: Unable to proceed with save while $errors array is not empty in class vb_datamanager_thread_firstpost in /includes/class_dm.php on line 758

the old one works fine though.
