I also encounter this problem.

Kwak 06-12-2004 05:41 PM

Code:

Warning: main(./global.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/ikwak/public_html/calpolyonline/forums/articles/admincp/install.php on line 7

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required './global.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/ikwak/public_html/calpolyonline/forums/articles/admincp/install.php on line 7

The hack modification is exact as in the instructions provided. Do you know what could be the problem?

colicab-d 06-12-2004 06:49 PM

iKwak remove the articles from

forums/articles/admincp

you should be installin it from and in

forums/admincp

theres no need for that extra folder its just causing problems. Also read the thread as John has answered you already

Monstergamer, that did the trick. Thanks.
I don't quite remember seeing that part on the instruction sheet. Oh well. :)

obiwan8472 06-13-2004 01:23 AM

I'm using mouse over effects on my forum, and when a user goes to the Articles, if they click the box on the Article Categories.. it goes to one of the forums instead.. whereas if you click the name,it goes to the Article.

http://www.scifichat.net/vbforums/article.php?

Any suggestions?

SVTOA 06-13-2004 01:57 PM

Great job John! I have installed this on 3.0 as well as 3.0.1 and it works great.

VBA users- I'll try to put something together for us for the VBA homepage.

TheComputerGuy 06-16-2004 01:19 AM

This is a kick ass hack! Many thanks John!

and the addon for vBAdvance would be cool!

ixian 06-16-2004 02:11 AM

I liked this hack so much I ditched a similar system I was playing around with. I also donated 20 bucks to you (from ix@maximumgamer.com) in thanks.

When do you plan to open the discussion forums on your site? I see the article categories but no one can post in them.

wcbryant 06-16-2004 03:26 AM

There's one basic vbAdvanced CMPS module available at vbadvanced.com, and a couple others with more features following shortly behind. A search over there for 'v3articles' would probably do the trick.

ChurchMedia 06-16-2004 07:29 AM

First of all -- very cool hack. Installed perfectly. I'll be sending some $$ your way.

After I completed the hack, my admincp isn't building the frame set. I just get the left nav frame, which opens a new window when I click anything. It's still usable -- but not working the way it's supposed to. I've retraced my steps and can't figure out where I messed that up.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the great hack!

There's no bbcode in featured articles. (That is, the front page preview.) It stops the page from being deformed.

How do the comments work? Is the article an actual post just formatted differently or what? I'd want the comments to look the same as posts do.. Are they posts or are they totally different, something in a new table just for v3articles? Thanks :)

Uhh, why not make a forum section, make it not visible, then just link to it as articles if you want it to look the same? :nervous:

xQuEeNzNaZcHox 06-17-2004 04:12 PM

Any plan to integrate this into the forum itself, so that articles automatically become threads and comments are replies?

This is a bit more of what I was asking if it's possible to do..

Why bother with the hack then, just use a new forum, just call it "Articles"?

Shack Networks 06-18-2004 01:31 PM

Not everyone wants thier forums cluttered up with article posts, I like to keep em seperated...

zetetic 06-18-2004 01:38 PM

This mod really rocks, I like it a lot. Thanks John.

Another feature I think would be great (and I think someone mentioned something similar) would be if you could click the "split" button on a thread and then select one post to split into a new article with any other posts selected turning into comments.

Michael2 06-18-2004 02:25 PM

Installed! Awesome, thank you! :)

DBC-DevNull 06-18-2004 09:52 PM

Very Very nice hack!! My only question is how do i change the file upload size limit?

Tim Wheatley 06-18-2004 11:04 PM

John,

You need to change articlepost > postbody to MEDIUMTEXT (same type as the forum's own post > pagetext)

Large articles can't be posted otherwise.

Cheers,

Tim

ps: If you're getting a blank page after submitting new articles or saving edits then this is your problem.

tHe Rk 06-19-2004 02:23 AM

Another brilliant hack that was very well written and super easy to install and setup. Kudos my friend Kudos.

Michael2 06-19-2004 10:44 AM

I saw the question asked but didn't see an answer, how do we un-feature an article?

I clicked the next button in install twice, and tried to uninstall and reinstall, but the uninstaller does not remove the sql stuff in vb3_usergroups and phpmyadmin wont remove that, then above is the error I get when trying to access a catagory. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Wolffman 06-21-2004 08:53 PM

First of all this is a truly great hack, and very useful to my site.

I only have one small problem. When I designate a article to be featured, this is what happens to the preview-

Quote:

[color=#000000]Blah blah blah
This (^) only happens to the second paragraph. Any thoughts?
