Check to make sure the templates used in each custom module is listed. Without these, they won't be cached and load times will increase. Also try using the stock vb style and see if the speed increases. If it does, you'll need to see what else in that particular style may be causing problems.

i don't understand what i have to check to increase CMPS page loading

i have a custom style and the vBadvanced CMPS page loads very slowly , instead the forum loads fast as usually.

thank you

KW802 09-22-2005 11:52 AM

A custom style has no affect on how fast CMPS loads. Based upon your forum size, however, the queries may have an affect. If you're running a large site try upgrading to CMPS 2.x (available at vBadvanced.com) as the queries have been updated to improve response times. Also, try turning off the 'moderation' module on your main page.

I guess I just want to know, if there's a way to show the listing of forums on the portal home page...that way, i can rename cmps_index.php to index.php without having to worry about people looking for the list of forums...

jarod1981? 11-13-2005 04:54 AM

Hi all

I have installed Vbadvance but i see this error when open my homepage:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_GLOBAL, expecting '{' in /membri/p2psin/forum/includes/functions_calendar.php on line 231

Help me please :surprised:

unixdotcom 11-14-2005 03:32 AM

Our mods decided they loved vBadvanced for unix.com and we started the install today, following the instructions step-by-step and after each step, making sure the forum is still up and running.

All was going well until we got to the last replacement in ./includes/functions.php

When we make the replacement called for in querypermissions, the forum breaks. I have tried it four times and each time, the forum breaks (no pages will show, just blank). We are running vb 3.0.5.

Any idea why?

We assume that none of the steps in the install break the forum and we are testing each step using a default style that is not vBadvanced, etc.

Thanks for your help!

Neo

We continue this thread about the problem with this mod here at the vBadvanced site.

funinthesun 11-16-2005 12:33 AM

Can't be bothered to read through every post in this thread so forgive me for asking but does this work with 3.5? I'm running on 3.5 and I get to the install page however when I click on install nothing happens?

PixelFx 11-16-2005 07:06 AM

well this thread is for 3.0.7, if you goto the maker of this script's website and download the cmps 2.0.0, and if your it doesn't bother you too much you'll see in the drop down menu version 3.5.1 and vb3.0.10 :P

the url www.vbadvanced.com

unixdotcom 11-19-2005 03:37 PM

We followed the instructions, did everything we were asked to do at vBadvanced, and this product breaks our board. We have been using vB for so many years I can't count, long before there was vB 2.0, and have installed and deleted many working hacks. We have paid for special mods, etc.

My message is that we are not "rookies" and have considerable knowledge of UNIX and Linux :-) and we can't get this to work and can't get meaningful support or normal communications from vBadvanced.

We offered to pay for the install at vBadvanced (based on their advertised install rate) if they would agree to use SSH v. very insecure FTP, and they did not answer our PM. What's up with that?

We do not recommend, from a security perspective, that people use FTP on active, large boards. FTP transfers passwords in clear text. This is dangerous, as everyone knows. So why does vBadvanced not answer our offer to pay their standard install rates if they use SSH v. FTP?

I can't get an answer from vBa. The folks their (and here) responsible for vBa will not communicate, I'm sorry to post. My guess is they are too busy on other projects... but it seems that when they advertise on their site that they will install vBa for a fee, they could at least have the professional courtesy to answer the SSH v. FTP question, don't you think?

If the vBa team are not going to support this hack, please be so kind to let us know so we can "move on" to other tasks and hacks.

Update:

We regret to inform that we removed vBadvanced CMPS from our site for a number of reasons. Perhaps someday the software and vBa customers will be more actively supported.

Best of Luck with vBadvanced in the future! We appreciate the opportunity to, as least, try the vBa installation to see if we might get it to work as advertised. Seems easy enough, but the installation caused our active board to "freeze"..... and we were not successful in getting the support to insure the installation worked.

Take care.

I guess I'm confused,,,,but there is no modification to the includes/functions.php file in the install instuctions for vbadvanced 2.0
MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE LATEST VERSION

http://www.vbadvanced.com/products.php?

after you get the forum path in the cmps_index.php file configured which is pretty simple, this hack installs itself. I think as a noob I must have installed this hack 5 or 6 times and it doesn't get much easier

KW802 11-23-2005 02:51 PM

Gunshot, Brian is actually working on making it even easier. ;) That one remaining file edit to global.php has been bugging him.

... and thanks for pointing out the thing about /functions.php -- I have no idea what unixdotcom was trying to install.

between worlds 11-27-2005 05:45 PM

I've had this installed on my board for a while and today the portal just hasn't been working. It doesn't load up and just gives me a white screen :S
Board can be found at: www.between-worlds.net

The site comes up for me using IE but it displays an error message. Check your chdir command in the cmps_index.php file.

between worlds 11-28-2005 04:38 PM

The chdir command is correct. I uploaded an info.php file to double check and its correct. I've not modified anything for a couple of months now, it just randomly stopped working.

SamirDarji 11-28-2005 10:52 PM

Usually, when it's something like this, a server configuration or something else on your host side has changed. I'd talk to them and see if they've changed anything on your account or configuration.

between worlds 12-02-2005 05:16 PM

Nothing has been changed with the server.

I'm now getting this message:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/between/public_html/modules/navigation.php on line 115

Line 115 looks like this:

eval('$home["$mods[modid]"]['content'] = "' . fetch_template('adv_portal_navigation') . '";');

I can't figure out what the problem is :S

KW802 12-02-2005 05:32 PM

between worlds, try uploading a fresh copy of the module from the original zip file....

... and you're not using something like Dreamweaver or other program to upload the files, are you?

between worlds 12-02-2005 07:08 PM

I use notepad to modify anything that needs to be modified.

When I reupload the module folder I get this message:

Quote:

Hi. Im trying to install this on my 3.5.2 board. I know this hack is only supported by 3.0.7 as the other states. But anyhow, if it is at all possible to install this hack on my board, then I need some help. I made all the template and code changes. Now, when I run the install file I get this error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: query_first() in /home/gamehaxs/public_html/admincp/vbacmps_install.php on line 1205

Any and all help would be appericated!

Can a hack such as this work with vB 3.5.x?

I'd say probably not. There is a version 2.0 of this hack that should work. See vbadvanced.com for more info.

Thank you for responding.

Do you know of any other similar portal systems that'd work with vB 3.5.x?

I'm not sure. I haven't researched 3.5 very much since I haven't upgraded yet.

KW802 03-05-2006 01:05 AM

For those looking for the vB 3.5.x version, please visit http://www.vbadvanced.com to obtain the current version of CMPS. The most current version of CMPS for vB 3.5.x is CMPS 2.1.0 and for vB 3.0.x it's CMPS 2.0.0 -- Both are available if you download them directly from vBa.

stud 03-15-2006 12:55 PM

I have a question regarding CMPS for vBulletin 3.0.x

I have the Latest Forums topics added - but it doesn't show if a thread has multiple pages - only the original thread title.
Is there a way to show the pages as well? Thanks!

This is a 3.0 version. You should download a 3.5 version from their site and go through the upgrade process.

Aunt Clara 06-17-2006 10:16 PM

I don't know how stupid this question will sound, but here I go. I have CMPS installed in the forums folder (like myportal.com/forums) as well as vBulletin itself. I want now the cmps_index.php? to be my homepage. How do I go about that?

KW802 06-18-2006 02:49 AM

Aunt Clara,

Not a stupid question... it gets asked quite frequently. The steps you want to take are here; if you have any problems just us know.

Aunt Clara 06-18-2006 05:11 AM

Thanks. Another question, would this work even if CMPS is installed in the forums folder? I am guessing it would not.

Just to make things clearer: both vBulletin and CMPS are installed under mydomain.com/forums, neither is in the root directory.
