while the journal page has yet to be completely finished i am posting some screenshots on how it looks so far anyways thanks and enjoy:)

sross 07-25-2004 07:52 PM

i just drooled all over my keyboard :)

Koutaru 07-26-2004 02:48 AM

wait, are the comments on the journal or the entry? o_O because it looks like just the journal right now. ^^;

AN-net 07-26-2004 04:37 AM

only entries are displayed on those pages, the only comments shown on the page is the last 5 or so comments made for that journal. There is a comment page where you can go and view all comments or just view comments for a specific entry.

sry i will try my best to get this done with as quickly as possible but I am currently tied up with my job right now and I am very tired on my time off but I will try to motivate myself to finish this. It will most likely be released in the beginning of August.

I know I could use some ;)

Halarkin 07-30-2004 07:27 AM

This is looking nice. Not to put any pressure on you, but I've got a community of over 30,000 users and I'm really looking to upgrade to vb3. The only thing that is keeping me from doing it is the fact that many of them are very attached to their journals and we would need this to be availible.

So, good luck and I hope to see it released soon!

M.C. 07-30-2004 08:25 AM

so... that hack didn`t come out yet? :disappointed:

Nope not yet. Its a work in progress. It looks great to me thus far!

AH-Net is working extremely hard, and I can't wait to test it.

i am basically finishing up the report system but here are some screenshots;)

i was also wondering if anyone wanted a reason for reporting added^.^

spence2 07-30-2004 11:23 PM

Great to see your progress, AN-net. It's hard to convey our true gratitude and excitement ... hard to cheer you on from a distance ... but, your work is going to enhance so many of our forums because of the unique nature of "journals."

As to "reports" ... are those journal entries reported by readers to admins? If so, I think that's a great addition for some. I know privacy is a tricky matter, but I think a lot of us feel some responsibility for the material posted in our forums. And although I'm all for free speech, there are also some people who might try to exploit or abuse via their journal entries. Although the feature might not be a "must have" ... it certainly might be useful to many.

Again, thanks for your hard work and for your willingness to share it!

thanks and i do feel it is not necessary but admins can put usergroup permissions on it as to who can use it or disable it all together;)

momzone 07-31-2004 03:46 AM

Looks great! Thanks much as this is something that so many of us are excited about. I appreciate your tenancity and hard work!

AN-net 07-31-2004 06:48 AM

2 new features planned:
-downloadable version of journal as a text file
-downloadable version of journal as a xml file

Halarkin 07-31-2004 06:58 AM

..will that stall the release?

(ignore me, I'm drunk right now)

AN-net 07-31-2004 06:20 PM

most likely not since the code is fairly simple:)

i have finished the downloading txt file version of a journal, see attachment;)

spence2 08-01-2004 04:47 AM

AN-net,

Will it be possible for us to easily include a link to a user's journal in the member list?

And a link to user's journal in their profile? Like "Billy Bob's Journal"?

And a "New Journal" (create a new journal) link appear above the existing journals on the journals index or list of journals?

And a "Journals" link be added to the navbar that links to the journal index or view all journals?

And will an alphabetized list of all journals be possible ... one that displays say 30 journals ... with pagination to the next 30, 30, 30, etc.?

Thanks!

AN-net 08-01-2004 05:31 AM

all have been done but they ordering of journals(havent gotten to it yet because its a very small thing) and linking from memberlist to journal. i have added a link to usercp:)

PixelFx 08-02-2004 04:00 AM

this is just an idea, tis probly too hard/complicated to do....but have you thought about users being able to customize the colors of their journal? obviously not for the first release but i mean sometime down the line? even just like allowing them to change a few colors, or maybe allowing them to upload their own logo for their journal... i dont know how possible that is..

thats just an idea for future versions tho, right now i'm just waiting as patiently as possible for this to come out, cuz i know my members are gonna love it :)

AN-net 08-04-2004 01:03 AM

oh yes color changing is planned for future versions;) and the logo is an idea;)

Halarkin 08-04-2004 08:46 AM

I'd like the option to completely disable completely private journals. You'd not believe the paranoia that causes.

Osterling 08-04-2004 09:22 AM

yeah that would be hot to be able to do

hmmm maybe not in the original release but ill add that in the second release;)

BarHopper 08-04-2004 03:43 PM

Brilliant. When do you think this will be expected?

AN-net 08-04-2004 03:49 PM

i can not say but hopefully will complete it shortly ;)

spence2 08-05-2004 01:02 AM

AN-net,

Might it be possible as an admin option for all persons either who register or who are assigned to a particular usergroup to automatically have a journal created for them?

Thanks.

not with my hack, sorry:( but its easy to create though, i thought it would be too hounding and database straining if every user was forced to create a journal.

but maybe ill think of something like that for later versions

spence2 08-05-2004 04:47 AM

Thanks for your reply.
I hope you will consider it. My notion was that journals could be part of a package of "premiums" I could offer those who might subscribe to my forum ... beats the heck out of bigger avatars or glowing usernames.
And, of course, it would be great if BAM! here's your journal from the get-go. But, I can create them myself or just grant them the "privilege" for now.

Anyway, thanks again for all your work and for listening to all our "good ideas"!
