I am not sure if it has been mentioned, but here goes:

This hack works very good with vBulletin 2.2.4 !

indiamike 03-12-2002 09:05 PM

Sweet Mojo Nixon,

That did the trick!!!! I don't know how it vanished, maybe someone hacked into my forums when they were grumpy about their Birthday being displayed. I Dunno either.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it (and the welcome panel hack also).

Mike :classic:

trilOByte 03-13-2002 06:10 AM

welcome, dude ;)

Massiel 03-19-2002 04:19 AM

Does this hack include the birthday panel too? So when members have birthdays they are displayed ? Please help me out!

Massiel 03-19-2002 04:30 AM

I should have read the posts LOL! My forum too, has the bdays missing hmmmm...will try those tips....

Floris 03-19-2002 09:49 AM

The birthdaybit is still on the bottom of your web page.
You can goto the same place where you had to move priv msg bit up, .. jus move birthday bit up there too.

Ghostsuit 03-19-2002 09:53 AM

Well just did the upgrade in 2.2.4 seems to have went fine but don't have my avatar appearing in the side panel sure I've just forgot something so will be re checking. However I did notice that...

Forum home now has

PHP Code:

$forumbits
$loggedinusers
$birthdaybits
$pminfo

So maybe people are replacing $birthdaybits by mistake.

Ghostsuit 03-19-2002 11:02 AM

Oh and I found my problem I uploaded the wrong index.php it's always the simplest things

Thank you trilObyte!!!!

Ignite 03-31-2002 07:02 PM

Go to my page, it doesnt show the avatar there. I uploaded the avatar correctly and I can see them when I preview them under the Admin CP, but they arent there.

99SIVTEC 04-04-2002 05:08 AM

Hmmmm does 2.24 call the avatars differently? I've always had this installed at my site with no problem, but after installing 2.24 and reinstalling this hack my avatar isn't showing up. Also the "there have been xx threads and xx posts since your last visit" isn't working anymore......

Hey there :)

I just upgraded my forum to the final version of 2.2.5 and re-applied the Welcome panel hack :) No problems what so ever! Works like charm again.
Guess this has been confirmed to work on all 2.2.x versions :)

Thomas P 04-05-2002 05:04 AM

Hi,
just to state that this is a very nice and long awaited (at least by me) hack to vB, just installed a "lite-version" of it on our forums.
Thanks trilOByte! :)
cu,
-Tom

Wow,
your avatar r0xx0rz very cool cow!! Can I please use it on my forum?

Tech_Koss 04-05-2002 04:09 PM

go for it :)

Floris 04-06-2002 06:18 AM

Done!~
If someone from bbaddons has a prob with it, lemme know and I will remove it again. Currently I let users with 50+ posts use it :)

99SIVTEC 04-08-2002 12:42 AM

Any idea why my avatars are not showing up using 2.2.4 now? They have always worked in the past. http://www.sportcompactracing.com/vbulletin/index.php

f5hosting 04-08-2002 01:13 AM

did you rehack it after your upgrade? I just rehacked my pugzoners.com board and it worked. Some of the templates get overwritten with the upgrade.

99SIVTEC 04-08-2002 01:19 AM

Do you know where I can find a list of the template changes between 2.2.x and 2.2.4? I have vbportals installed and would hate to have to recreate my whole theme from scratch...

Thanks though Allen .....ohh and by the way I got my e-mail working over at f5 ;)

f5hosting 04-08-2002 01:22 AM

As for the list of template changes, I dont know...unless they have them at vbulletin.org in the announcements section....coolio with the email thihng also!

pHAZE_1 04-08-2002 03:19 AM

what did i do wrong? i installed this hack and in the avatar box, there is no avatar, also there is 2 PM panels. One where it is supposed to be, and one at the bottom... um help.

Sadie Frost 04-08-2002 03:19 PM

I tried using your forumhome template, and the avatar shows up just fine on mine. I would check your code in index.php :)

LilleMartin 04-09-2002 01:29 PM

Oh my god, I nearly broke my balls trying to get this to work.
Now installed, I love it.

Thanks for a good hack...

pHAZE_1 04-09-2002 02:42 PM

for some reason it didnt work for bout 2 days, but all of a sudden boom theres my avatar. lol

Rcooper 04-11-2002 06:54 PM

Great hack Thanks!

99SIVTEC 04-11-2002 07:41 PM

Oh man i'm an idiot. My web host moved the servers. I had been connecting to my ftp server via my ip address instead of host name. It turns out I was connecting to the old server. I was editing the templates for my site, but when I would change anything in the actual files it was being changed on the old server instead of the new one. I pulled my head out of my ass and now everything works at it should.

Rick 04-12-2002 02:39 PM

Great hack thanks. One question. I don't allow my users to change their own avatars. How can I disable the link to the edit avatar page when they click on the avatar in the "Welcome" hack?

Thanks,
Rick

Floris 04-12-2002 03:01 PM

Open root/index.php in your fav. editor and search for:
Code:

$avatarimage='<a href="member.php?s='.$session[sessionhash].'&action=editavatar"><img src="'.$avatarurl.'" border="0">';
And remove the <a> tag from it. BUT! I did not test it, and I do not see the </a> at the end of the line. SO not sure if this will end up in a broken link. But that is the line you need to alter.

Frenck 04-13-2002 10:39 PM

Like some people have noticed,

If you have a big forum (like euhm.. about.. lets say 100.000 posts, like mine)
Than the welcome panel hack really slows down the page!!!

My page generation time with this hack is 2.5 seconds!!!
That's all because of these 2:

Query: SELECT COUNT(*) AS threads FROM thread WHERE lastpost > '1018738585'
Time before: 0.2525429725647
Time after: 0.34668505191803

Query: SELECT count(*) AS posts FROM post WHERE dateline > '1018738585'
Time before: 0.3487149477005
Time after: 1.9500440120697

You can speed this up by adding 2 indexes to your tables.

Just run these 2 query's once on your database:

ALTER TABLE `thread` ADD INDEX(`'lastpost`);
ALTER TABLE `post` ADD INDEX(`dateline`);

After running these 2 I was verry glad with the result:

Query: SELECT COUNT(*) AS threads FROM thread WHERE lastpost > '1018738585'
Time before: 0.40777695178986
Time after: 0.40917897224426

Query: SELECT count(*) AS posts FROM post WHERE dateline > '1018738585'
Time before: 0.41155600547791
Time after: 0.41288495063782

My page generation time is 0.5 seconds after this simpel modification.

Anyways, THX FOR THIS GREAT HACK!!!
