Hai! me again.

Would it be possible to add an option to have everyone on the friend list, rather than your friends? - we have a small(ish) forum and its a bit of a pain having to add everyone as friends to allow each other to chat.

Thanks!

As we have said numerous times, that is a feature we plan to add.

No it's fine, i can do it on my own. If you don't mind, where in the style does the javascript get stored? My problem is that i've had a hard time finding any of it within my template

Most of what you will need is in the iwt_idealchat_bottombar template. The rest of it can be found in the global_start plugins for both of the products.

ok, thanks for responding.

I noted a weird bug?

If i watch chat for a bit go away to view say FB on another tab and come back, i would see loads of a new text that the forum members have typed - but, if i hit new posts or forum root - all that new text dissapears and i see only the text i was reading prior to leaving the forum tab in the first instance..

Hope that makes sense.. lol.

so to replicate.

1. type stuff in general chat blah blah blah..
2. go away to another tab on your browser, surf some....
3. come back to forum tab and you would see new text from people talking
4. hit new posts.
5. all the new text from leaving the page at stage 2 dissapears and you are left with the old text.

Its a bit annoying this bug :(

EDIT: I have found now that any new text is not saved.

Sorry, one last thing for tonight.

Any new person joining General Chat, can it be so that they do not see any history? - imagine someone is talking about someone behind their backs and all of a sudden they join chat and see all of the history? - please make is so that this isnt possible.

Thanks

clubvr4 08-06-2011 10:28 PM

Just to further on the issue previously highlighted.

It seems that only general is affected by this.. a moderator an i spammed a PM message to death, refreshing (new posts) at regular intervals, at no point did the text reset.

However, performing the same tests on General would see all new text deleted.

There are exactly 1000 characters in history?! maybe general chat can only hold so much and doesnt accept new?

Thank for reporting this, we will look into this and see what may be causing it.

As for the general chat history, we can see about making a setting for that. (Although we believe that anything you have to say about someone should be said to their face!)

Just to add a bit more info, all 3 of us in chat all rest to the same bit of text, i.e. the 1000 characters, all new text is erased - so we all see the same 1000 characters of text remain when we reffresh the page.

That is not a bug, links do not get auto parsed in the lite version. That is one of the features we have reserved only for the pro version currently.

I know, i know! you hate me :)

Another suggestion...

Would it be possible on the general tab to show how many people are in there? maybe General (2) for example? perhaps fruther down the line hoevering over the number would show the names?

This is something we want to do, but we're not happy with any of the solutions we have come up with yet. Once we have a solution that we feel is sound, we will implement it.

Ok I can't seem to get it working properly, so how much would be the fee be?

Also I found a small error with the styling. For some reason, I can change the color and stuff of the style, and no matter what it will remain the same. It wont even change after editing the CSS by hand.

For the css issue, try hitting CTRL+F5 to clear your cache.

As for the other part, we will look into it more in detail in the morning and contact you via PM.

Had a problem where it would make the quick post and pm reply box blank in IE8/9. Worked fine if you switched to compatibility mode.
Had to disable it for now.

dog199200 08-07-2011 05:34 AM

Oh another question, does the system have an auto purge setup, so it deletes messages that are older then a certain date? I haven't seen one, but I also haven't picked through all the javascript either. It would be a good idea to add a purge system, where the user can determine how long and often everything is purged. Something like this would work, it run every time the page is refreshed, or even as a cronjob:

Code:

<?php
require_once("./global.php");
$today = date('U', strtotime('-24 hours'));
$vbulletin->db->query_write("DELETE FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "iwt_chatroom_messages WHERE timestamp <= $today");
$vbulletin->db->query_write("DELETE FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "iwt_chat_convos WHERE timestamp <= $today");
?>

Just a suggestion

clubvr4 08-07-2011 07:26 AM

WOuld it be possible to make the general chat tabs available as a pop out? - It would allow members to chat using a larger window.

I don't know if this is a similar issue or not, but the product caused havoc with our host's virtualization of PHP through CGI:

Code:

[error] [client ****] FastCGI: comm with (dynamic) server "<true site path>/html-x-httpd-php5" aborted: (first read) idle timeout (60 sec)
[error] [client ****] FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) received from server "<true site path>/html-x-httpd-php5"

I'll be checking with our host (GoDaddy) and see what that means but for the time being I can't run this on our site. We start getting a crap ton of internal server errors represented by the above with occasional windows of usage. We love the addon and would likely get the pro version after we raised some cash but until I can get the lite to play nice with the server there's no sense in considering it :(

I'm not sure what you mean by no good with UTF-8 as we are currently running it with UTF-8 encoding on our demo site.

There was a bug in the avatars, but it was fixed in version 1.1.2. If you are still seeing the issue with 1.1.2, please let us know.

As for the time of the chat, we have not noticed any issues with it, nor have any been reported, so could you please be a little more specific.

I have updated and the problem of fixed avatars. Other problems remain.

We have thought about releasing it, but we don't want to release any info about features until we have confirmed that they are in place and coming with the next version!

We have found with other products, that if you say a feature is planned, people expect it in the next version, and then get mad if its not.

What encoding is your board using? The encoding that chat uses is the same as what your board is set to use. So if your board doesn't support those characters, then the chat won't either.

As for the date one, that is very interesting. We will look into that some more!

Just an update on my issue - asked customer service what happened and all I got back was "we don't support java on our shared servers" ... extremely helpful, I know. I'm looking at alternative hosting at the moment because that seems like BS to me.

That is a very bad response considering nothing in this product uses Java.

Agreed, which really just nailed the coffin shut on staying with them as host. In any event, hopefully you can garner some information from the relatively ambiguous log information I provided. If the problem shows up again after I change hosts I'll let you know, and hopefully have a better description of the issue.

If you need a good host, you might want to look at Liquid Web. We use them currently, and they have always been very quick to respond if we ever do have any issue.

As for keeping us updated, please do, the more information we have, the quicker we can stomp out the bugs!

I've installed this on a couple of VB forums running 4.1.5 and I'm having the same issue danhaga was having. I can type in a message but it's not showing up until the page is refreshed or I kill the chat session and reopen the box.

I'll send you a login and password via pm.

We have noticed this issue on a couple of boards now, and we are looking into a fix for it.

i have the same problem, TIME and characters "?"

Smile :-) 08-08-2011 02:41 PM

i don't like how this mod show the time & date of the messages.
so i change it to show it like my "Log Date Format" option in ACP.

if you want to do so too just edit ideal_chat_update_stream.php file and search for:
PHP Code:

$templater->register('time_sent'vbdate('M j, g:i:s a',$message['timestamp']));

replace with:
PHP Code:

$templater->register('time_sent'vbdate($vbulletin->options['logdateformat'],$message['timestamp']));

please add it to your next version ;)

Very nice mod =)

Only problems are the latin characters not showing properly and the fact that if I enable it to all users the server is taken down due to hundreds of stream connections (mysql) and an apache full of "Sending Reply" connections =(

montda 08-09-2011 01:59 AM

this mod effect some other mod as 8WR Media Library and PhotoPlog which is disable very important navigation links :(

I though the new version would solve it but...Q_Q

I'd appreciated any help to solve this.

Apache should be able to handle over 1k active connections without much trouble on even moderate server hardware. Mysql will hold more connections open currently (1 per user active in the chat), but with some tuning the extra connections shouldn't be a big deal. We are looking into options to try and see about avoiding having to maintain a mysql connection open for each stream but thats a bit tricky and has all kinds of other complications we are looking into solving. Ideally we can come up with a fix for this without stressing the filesystem, and without requiring memcache.

The character issue for now we can't do a whole lot about it right the second, but we will look into options as we have time after the next major update.

danhaga 08-09-2011 12:31 PM

Just installed the latest version and I am still having the same issues.

-When I click on a friend online and send a message it doesn't show up for myself or them unless I refresh the page. Does not show up real time.

-Chatroom does the same thing.

-Getting lots of Error: Reload messages

I am also now getting DB errors on my email:
Database error in vBulletin :
mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111
/data/13/1/81/81/1244407/user/1326992/htdocs/portal/includes/class_core.php on line 314

And just an FYI. Problems are the same in FF, IE and Chrome.

Don't know what can be changed here, there is more than 2000 users online, mysql connections goes up 16x and apache requests 7x when the plugin is active to everybody, which kills the server: an octocore with more then 12gb can not handle it. Is there anything that I can experience here to solve this? This is really a good plugin that I would like to share with our users.

Tuning of mysql and apache should help considerable, as yes the script does create more connection overhead for both apache and mysql than typically they are configured to handle when you start talking that many users. The memcache stream Tim is working on should avoid most the extra mysql load, but it won't be ready for a bit still as its quite complex to make sure it works properly. In fact the memcache stream should drop the overall resource requirements besides apache connections considerable. The only thing we could really look into doing to lessen the apache connection count would be a server side script designed to feed the JavaScript in place of relying on apache.

i got 500 internal server after i setup for my register member ..yes it took resource on my server .but in my opinion..its a very good mod..

Ideal Web Tech 08-11-2011 05:41 PM

We might see about pushing out a bug fix release tonight or tomorrow, while we continue to work on the next major release. We have fixed several issues already on our current dev build that should increase the stability of the system for most of the people who were having issues with the chat messages not showing up.
