Anyone got a live demo where I cna actually see this working? The screenshots don't really show as much as I need to see :D

Also I am very interested in modifying this for PC rigs since I run a laptop gaming forum. How hard would it be working with the phrases etc to do that?

Kolbi 07-09-2009 02:44 PM

Here my garage link: http://www.2-wheel-planet.de/dto_gar...ehicle_id=1000

Just wait until the next version is out, with this version it will be easily :)

For the paid version there are several sites that are now running it. The paid version has additional features like browse, search, usergroup permissions for garages (access and number), and support for vBSEO but it will give you an idea of what it is like. Take a look at http:www.truestreetcars.com and click on Garage in the header (Note: this is NOT one of our sites).

As for the current release of the free version it is only about 80% phrased meaning that not all language elements are handled in the phrasing system. There are some items in the templates and a few being generated by code. That said you do have the ability to customize section headings and some other basic information directly from the Garage vBulletin Options settings. It is our plan to release a fully phrased version (along with some new features) of the paid version in the August time frame.

While you could heavily modify Garage/Garage Plus to support your need we actually have another product that would likely meet your needs more easily. PM me and I can provide information on that as well as arrange a demo.

Thanks!

Mark

If you'll mark the mod as being installed I will work with you to get the postbit link resolved. There should be a link by default in your postbit/postbit_legacy like the following given that the user of that post has one garage defined and it is publicly visible:

Thanks!

As an administrator the ability to modify or delete another user's garage is something that we have slated for an upcoming release of the Garage Plus (paid) version. I expect this release to be available in the month of August. This release will also support additional translation for selected languages. If there is interest in languages other than English and German please post to this thread.

I just took a quick look at your site and looked at your postbit entries and they appear to be working correctly since I do not see repeated entries. As for the user profile display it should have an image shown to the left of your vehicle name. Given that you likely modified the templates and/or code to support your postbit needs I suspect that the display has been broken in some way since we use the same code to display in both areas.

If you would like any type of additional support please mark this mod as installed.

Thanks!

In the free version of Garage everyone, except for guests and banned members, have one garage each. There is no means included to limit them.

In the Garage Plus (paid) version of the product you have usergroup level permissions allowing certain usergroups to have garages and to specify how many they have access to. Plus also contains browse and search interfaces, vBSEO add-ons, plus a number of other features.

If you have additional questions feel free to PM me.

Thanks!

Cool hack thanks :)

It would've been nice if it was possible to integrate something like (Photo Popup - Insert pictures easily from vB Albums, Photopost, vBGallery, Photoplog) for image attach purposes. You know where you are able to piggyback on whatever software you have installed. That keeps images central. Bit just a penny..

mferguson 07-14-2009 03:08 AM

Thanks for the feedback. The reason that we didn't use other products/plugins is because we didn't want to depend on specific versions of other products to operate properly. Given that we have a testing and release process adding additional dependencies would further complicate an already complex testing matrix. For example we test against three major releases of vBulletin (vB 3.6, 3.7, and 3.8) and, in one package, address any differences in the vB versions.

All of the above said we do appreciate the feeback and I would encourage everyone using this modification to post your suggestions, new features, and requests so we can continue to improve this and our other products.

Best regards,

Mark

THE__DRIFTER 07-14-2009 04:01 AM

Twice I have added a response here tonight regarding the exact same opinion. Since it is quite obvious that the intent of this is to promote a "paid" version then speak up and say so. Don't hedge around the topic but own up to what it is. If this is useful then members will more than likely pay. For those of us that test the code it is an insult. I suppose this is the path VB is going down more these days so I am not surprised...

powerbook 07-14-2009 08:05 AM

I know what you mean and I understand where you are coming from.

It is not a big issue if the functionality is not there I was just thinking that people like Photopost have been around forver and giving site admins the option in the admin panel if they want to use/integrate their Garage software they can. Even the vBulletin album included would've been nice.

At least Garage doesn't just link to images on other sites which I find the biggest pain on any site.

Understood. I've used Photopost on sites that I've developed and I understand the need for a single image store on a site so that in the future you don't have to manage yet another product, migrate it to something new, etc.

If we were to consider adding support to use the vBulletin album functionality as the image store do you have any thoughts on how the permissions associated with the current album settings by usergroup should be handled? Right now, in our plugin, we allow approximately 20-22 images to be uploaded for one garage. In Garage Plus you can specify any number of garages per usergroup. With this in mind if the admin had not allowed for sufficient space in the vBulletin gallery but you had additional garages left what type of feedback should the user receive? Should it prevent additional garages from being created or should it just prevent new images from being uploaded?

Also, if using the vBulletin album store would it be ideal that the user already have the images he/she wanted in their albums and select those for use in their garage or, when creating a garage, allow the user to load new images and have those go into a given album? If the latter would the user want the ability to choose which album (or create a new album) to have the images placed into.

We're open to giving this consideration but we'll need to model the use cases carefully to make sure this would continue to be easy to use.

Thanks again for the feedbackk :up:

Sure. This isn't supported out of the box so I put together some plugin code to support this. Just replace the contents of the DTO Garage Postbit Pop-up Menu plugin with the code below, save, and you will have a single link in the postbit that will take you to that user's garage.

Note: The link won't be display if the user has no garage entry or the garage setting "Allow others to view this vehicle" is set to no.

PHP Code:

global $pm$threadpm;

$show['dto_garage_has_vehicles'] = false;

$usepostid false;
$doable false;

// If this is a private message postbit draw then retrieve the userinfo of the user that the PM is from
if (THIS_SCRIPT == 'private') {
  if (
$_REQUEST['do']!= 'showhistory')
  {

$userinfo fetch_userinfo($pm['fromuserid']);

$doable true;
  }
}
else if ((
THIS_SCRIPT == 'showpost' || THIS_SCRIPT == 'showthread') && $post['visible'] != 2)
{

$usepostid true;

// Get the poster's userinfo

$userinfo fetch_userinfo($post['userid']);

$doable true;
}

if(
$doable && !empty($userinfo))
{
    global
$db;

$userID $userinfo['userid'];

$vehicle $db->query_first("SELECT * FROM "

TABLE_PREFIX "DTO_garage_vehicle WHERE userid = "$userID " AND display='1'");

$content '';

    if(
$vehicle
    {

$vehicle_id $vehicle['vehicle_id'];

$content "<a target=\"_dto\" href=\"dto_garage.php?do=viewvehicle&amp;vehicle_id=$vehicle_id\">Garage</a>";
    }

$template_hook[postbit_userinfo_right] .= $content;

Best regards,

Mark

Perhaps you can add this in the readme file for those who want to do this, too :)

powerbook 07-14-2009 07:44 PM

Thanks Mark :)

Somehow that code seems very odd to go into the "dto_garage_popup_menu" template... Unless I missing something..

mferguson 07-14-2009 11:41 PM

Sorry I meant that the code should replace that found in the Garage Postbit Pop-up Menu plugin. It certainly wouldn't work well if placed in the template ;)

I've updated my post above to indicate the plugin.

Sorry for the confusion!

Mark

This sounds like a great thing, integrating it with the vBulletin album store.

My thoughts on the questions you have(they can change if someone come up with better one's :)):

"the permissions associated with the current album settings by usergroup"
I think that when you reach vbulletin gallery max a message to the user that the maximum number of images is reached and that he should contact admin if he feels its wrong, or something like that. It should not prevent the creation of new garages, only new images from being uploaded.

"Also, if using the vBulletin album store would it be ideal that the user already have the images he/she wanted in their albums and select those for use in their garage or, when creating a garage, allow the user to load new images and have those go into a given album? If the latter would the user want the ability to choose which album (or create a new album) to have the images placed into."
I think it should go both ways, if the image exist in some album it should be possible to choose that one, but also the user should be able to upload new images through the garage and be able to either put it in a currently existing album or create a new one.

Scitz0 07-19-2009 09:53 AM

Another thing that would be great is to have some sort of blog function for each garage where you can blog about new things you have done to the car or adventures you have taken with it. And be able to upload images to that specific blog. I guess that gives us the same dilemma as my previous post about picture integration with vb gallery store. But im not sure if you should be limited by the vb gallery max images here. A max number of images/blog is enough i think. So im not sure if integrating it with vb gallery store is such a good idea after all. Maybe it could be solved somehow.

But a blog feature for the garages would be nice however you solve the picture thing :).

What do you think, something that could be done?

mferguson 07-19-2009 06:53 PM

Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback. I've added these items to our list of items to investigate further. I can't guarantee that we'll be able to address these in the release we are planning for sometime in August. That said we will look into your suggestions and see what would be involved in supporting them. I especially like the garage blogging concept :up:

Thanks again for taking the time to provide us with feedback!

Mark

Thanks for this mod.

I just installed the free version and created a garage.

Every thing seems to be working so far except for the "Garage" link in the navbar.

If I click it, the pull-down works but only the help link is active. Is this because it is the free version? Or is the Garage link supposed to work?

Thanks,
Rich S

Edit:
I do have one real issue.... in adding pictures. I can upload a photo from my hard drive using the browse option. However if I link to a file on the internet I get a blank white screen.

Thanks again,

In Garage Plus you'll see additional browse and search options under the menu. In the free version only the help link is displayed. The Garage text is just a title of the drop down menu and does not link to anything.

When using the "URL to Image" option to add an image to a garage it actually pulls the image defined by the URL, resizes, and saves the actual image into your site. This way it insures that the image doesn't go away at the remote location and breaks an image in your garage. Given this make sure that you enter the full URL to an image. For example to use an image that is hosted on Photobucket you have to do a little digging for the full URL of an image:

1) Here is a page containing an image (http://media.photobucket.com/image/b...ture_st4pz.jpg)

2) Right click on the image and select the option to view the image in its own window

3) Right click on the image to copy its URL to your clipboard (or copy it from your browser's address bar). In this case the URL is http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...ture_st4pz.jpg

Note: the URL in #3 is similar to that in #2 but one displays surrounding page content while the other does not. If you were to use the URL in #2 in the URL to Image field you would get a white page - a bug that I'll address in our next release since it should error gracefully.

4) Paste the URL into the "URL to Image" field when adding an image in your garage.

5) Add a caption and click upload.

This should retrieve the image from the remote server, resize it if needed, and save it on your site's server.

If something else is occurring and causing a white page please PM me with the steps needed reproduce the problem along with the URL you are entering in the "URL to Image" field.

Thanks!

I've got another issue. I recently added a skin to my forum and for some reason the garage link on the nav bar doesn't assume the style.

http://www.kutsujuracing.com/forum/index.php

any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rich

mferguson 07-27-2009 01:06 AM

Rich,
I believe all you need to do is edit the dto_garage_navbar template for your style. In that template change:

PHP Code:

<td class="vbmenu_control"

to

PHP Code:

<td

If that doesn't work please let me know and I'll work with you to figure out how to make it work with your style.

Thanks!

Mark

PS - I never heard back from you regarding my last PM on your configuration. If you get a few minutes please send that over via PM or the email address I provided in my message and I'll try to reproduce determine the difference in your configuration and the one we are running here.

Rich S 07-27-2009 05:23 PM

That was it thanks so much.

On the other, I got swamped with otherwork and had not had any time to upload that file. I'll try and do it now.

Thanks,

I found a bug:
Quote:

Warnung: implode() [function.implode]: Invalid arguments passed in [path]/includes/functions_dto.php (Zeile 49) vBulletin-Systemmitteilung

Ihr Seitenaufruf konnte nicht verarbeitet werden, da das Securitytoken nicht mehr g?ltig war.

Bitte klicken Sie auf "Zur?ck" und laden Sie die vorherige Seite neu, bevor Sie fortfahren.

I got this issue then I wanted to answer a PN I got.

mferguson 07-30-2009 01:16 PM

Is this something that happens every time you attempt to answer a private message or something that only happened once? From the message, translating the german to english, it looks like there is mention of a security token (ie - the vbulletin cookie) may have been out of date and caused one of our functions to fail. If you can reproduce this can you provide the steps you take to cause the error? This information would help us try to reproduce the problem.

Thanks!

Thanks for the effort.

As I've mentioned earlier the breadcrumb link was not intended to be a link and is therefore a bug we will be addressing in an August update. In the meantime I can easily deliver a patch for this issue for those that have run into it.

In the Garage Plus update in August we are planning to include a index page similar to what you may see with a product like Photopost. It would include random garages, most recently updated, etc. and would be viewed when clicking on the Garage breadcrumb link mentioned above.

For those that haven't already joined our support forum and downloaded Garage from our site I would encourage you to join. The reason being is that we have started discussions in our support forums with Garage and Garage Plus customers regarding what we have planned in the next releases and gathering input from customers on features they would like see added. As we develop vBulletin products full-time its important to gather this input so we can improve the products to meet the needs of our users.

Best regards,

Mark

This sounds like an issue where the all the files/directories in the upload directory didn't make it into the forum root directory. All the steps should of installation and use should be covered in our online help. Access to the online help can be found in the package's readme.html file and also via our site at http://www.drivethruonline.com/help

Let me know if you need further assistance as I'm here to help.
