Yes? No? You're working on it? Or is this the wrong mod to achieve what I'm trying to do?

Not really hard to install and see if it's what you want but I've provided a screenshot for you to see what it does. It's not exactly 100% a mirror copy of the one on this site but work with the phrases and if you want a 100% exact mirror copy of the way the one on here is then you could achieve that...

Thanks for sharing. I had it installed but could not get it to display in that area. I'm still trying. Is there anything you can share that would help me?

nascartr 08-16-2009 10:33 PM

It's supposed to be up there by default. Maybe you have modified your navbar template and accidently removed that hook? Have a link to your site?

In the vb options I had "Thread/Forum Read Marking Type" on Inactivity/Cookie Based. I changed it to Database (automatic forum marking) and now it's working! Thanks so much for the help.

Paul M 08-17-2009 12:04 PM

There are a couple of minor bugs in that version, so yes, for the sake of 30 seconds, I would suggest you update to 3.8.004.

paintballer.ie 08-17-2009 05:44 PM

thanks for the update. The forum filter one is a nice fix.

I have one bug that affects vba links.

I have it installed in /forum root/links

I have to make sure that all links in my header drop down menu began with a '/' or else when clicking on them from the links section would have them wrong e.g. ./links/help and /links/mail

I have them all fixed except with the 'unread post' links. It is giving me http://www.paintballer.ie/links/search.php?do=getnew

Is this a phrase fix or a template..... I think all I need to do is add a '/' some where.

Paul M 08-17-2009 06:33 PM

Not entirely following you, but have you set the links path option ?

Cool, that worked. I just added a '/' in the 'Links Prefix Path'. I dono why I never though of looking there.

Thanks again. Keep up the great work.

cagbaazee 08-18-2009 03:24 PM

why i cannot see unread message and where it is located at . please help me to resolve this
problem. Treat it most urgent

MjrNuT 08-25-2009 03:12 PM

Paul,

I scoured your thread all the way back to page 4. I probably still missed it if someone else asked it. Sorry if this might not make sense, but how about a UserCp control such that users may choose to Turn off the Display X Unread Posts at the upper right? Then their post/thread marking defaults to vB settings, which is
Quote:

vBulletin Options > General Settings > Thread/Forum Read Marking Type
.

Reasoning for this question, I think, is that I have set the mods cutoff to be 7 days and the vB setting to like 12 days. This still results in quite a few Unread for a user and I was just thinking of relieving them for a user's activity that is sparse.

Our board is by far not big, but even a couple days and ppl have like 100 unread.

If someone has a good mitigation to this, then please do share it. Whether it be using the provided setting options of Paul's mod or other.

Thanks in advance.

Stormraven 08-28-2009 09:36 PM

What I'm looking for is the whole code, or phrase to put the info ie, 'No Unread Posts since your last visit.' i need the code that generates that so I can past it somewhere else on my site because I would like it in another one of the boxes and I'm having trouble finding that part of the code of phrase, can someone help me please? :(

Stormraven 09-02-2009 06:58 PM

Anyone?

Paul M 09-02-2009 08:14 PM

Assuming i understand your question, there is nothing you can just put elsewhere.

Stormraven 09-02-2009 08:32 PM

But what is the code to place it elsewhere, there must be a phrase or soemthing.

Osama11 09-04-2009 06:59 PM

i have installed that product .. but its not working 4 me ..
do i have to add any codes ??

Paul M 09-04-2009 11:32 PM

Try using $unread, I believe it should work.

I have a notification showing on the Your Notifications link. When I click the link or the drop down arrow nothing happens. Help! What should I do to get this functioning? I look forward to your response.

z0diac 09-06-2009 08:43 PM

Is there a version of this for 3.7.4 ? I can't seem to find it, but I had it installed on 3.7.4 before.

EDIT: found it. 'Changed my search string and it came up. 'Weird the version for 3.8 and 3.6 don't work with 3.7x, but I got the 3.7x version of this mod and it seems to be working again. Cheers.

There is nothing you should have to do. If your notifications are broken then you probably have a faulty style or something. Try it on the default vb style.

Quantnet 09-10-2009 02:12 AM

Paul,
any comment on if this mod cause slow queries or server load spike?

Paul M 09-10-2009 10:01 AM

No, it doesnt.

can you fix this trouble?

CPOWA 09-17-2009 01:14 PM

Been using this product for many moons...

Today, I stumbled upon an error, hence I don't know how long it has existed.

I happened to roll my mouse over the "Unread Posts" link (of which there were none) in the welcome box and noticed the following error message on my browser status line:

http://www.usfcralliance.org/forums/....php?do=getnew[ARG:2 UNDEFINED]

If I click the Unread Posts link I get a white page and "Done" message in the status bar.

This forum is using several of Cyb's products, ry215's sidebar column, and this product. The only other customizations I've made are in the header, footer, navbar, and (one within ry215's sidebar product).

I was using the prior release 3.8.003. So I upgraded to current release this AM, reverted the navbar template, based on a warning in the instructions, and the error is still occuring.

I'm running vb 3.8.3. I get the error in all of my styles, including the Default style.

Any ideas?

BTW, the "New Posts" link in the navbar is working.

Nita

You have customised (translated) one of the phrases at sometime in the past, you need to delete (or update) the custom version.

Hi Paul,

Sorry to bug you again, but I can't find any phrases that I?ve modified which would affect this product. Are their any phrases I should be looking at in particular?

I know the mod works and always has. Just as a cross check, I reinstalled 3.8.3 into my localhost, loaded this mod, and it works fine!

EDIT: Another thing I noticed is that the mod works IF there are New Posts.

Nita

EDIT: Problem solved. There were indeed modified phrases. I thought uninstalling the product and reinstalling would have gotten rid of them. Apparently that's not the case. :o

Trek 09-20-2009 02:29 AM

Hey Paul,

I've been using this mod since you released it for 3.8. It's working great. I've also been using the Selective Forum Filter mod as well, but had it disabled. I read in this thread that your latest version uses that mod's forums exclusions.

I've updated to your latest version (The Selective Forum Filter mod hasn't been updated since release), so I have the latest versions of each.

The problem I'm having is the exclusions don't seem to be working. I can verify that the forums are excluded (as they don't show up at all), but when new posts are made, they are still added to the unread counter and are visible when clicking the unread posts link.

It's entirely possible I'm doing something wrong, so please let me know. vB 3.8 BTW.

Trek 09-20-2009 03:41 AM

Nevermind, I have it working.

After echoing out the excluded forums variable to make sure it was populated, I realized my mistake.

I had selected a category to be excluded, thinking it would exclude all of the sub forums under it. So of course, I'd see all of the posts as unread, it was a category. Once I selected all of the forums under it, things were excluded as expected.

Thanks again and sorry about that!

RedHacker 09-20-2009 11:06 AM

It very nice and worked. It is easy to enter new posts and new thread and down from Private messages....?

RedHacker 09-21-2009 03:23 PM

How to change color numbers to unread posts with bold and color RED....?

Paul M 09-21-2009 06:45 PM

Edit the phrases to add html to colour the text as desired.

hyppa 09-22-2009 07:41 AM

Nice, but it looks like i cant get the It to displays the number of new reputation comments given. ?
