any fix for same priority error in sitemap ?

There is a patch in this thread:
http://www.vbseo.com/f44/google-site...riority-24325/

However, a google rep even chimed in and stated that the 'error' is more of a 'warning' to notify you, the owner, of the issue. Google will still accept it and use it.

The sitemap generator doesn't support re-writes from 3rd party.... only stock vb urls or vbseo plugin config will be used. If you use vbseo, there is a flag in the options for telling the sitemap generator that you have vbseo installed.

ETDC 08-01-2008 07:09 PM

Do I have to have vBSEO installed to use this?

briansol 08-01-2008 08:13 PM

no.

it works for standard vB urls or vbseo urls.

it doesn't work for zoints, tfseo, etc etc

cosy 08-02-2008 01:05 AM

any plans to get it compatible whit this ?

<a href="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=184573" target="_blank">https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=184573</a>

I installed this hack and it has improved traffic by 50% in a matter of days. I am getting double the Google hits I was getting before.

I just wanted to let those of you know that aren't running it already.

stryka 08-04-2008 07:59 AM

Based on others experiences...

Once the sitemap is submitted... how long until all pages appear in google?

cosy 08-04-2008 08:36 AM

stryka u have to wait that google spider index your site

stryka 08-04-2008 12:06 PM

Well.. the spider came and the report shows that it only indexed the main sitemap xml page... i will wait a couple more days... and report back...

briansol 08-04-2008 06:09 PM

Keep in mind, the sitemap is a SUGGESTED LIST of links for google to crawl.

Based on my experience.. all pages will not appear. My sitemap contains over 14,000 URLS and Google has only indexed a little over 100 of them. This is with a couple weeks worth of crawling too.. and Google is indeed downloading my sitemap on a daily basis. YMMV.

Shazz 08-04-2008 07:23 PM

Does seem to be making a change

ETDC 08-04-2008 08:57 PM

When I add the htaccess file, I get this when trying to access my CP and the forum itself... :(

Quote:

Any ideas? There was no htaccess file already there.

Ok, it's at the bottom of the install instructions (heart-attack averted).

Where is the httpd.ini file I have to edit?

iojam 08-04-2008 11:03 PM

You should have ISAPI_rewrite module for IIS installed for that. Otherwise you can move your sitemap files manually from vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder to forums root.

Is the module something I get from my host?

What are the sitemap files? Do I still have to edit/upload the htaccess file?

vBSEO Sitemap Generator uses built-in PHP mail() function, possibly your host doesn't allow that.

iojam, I don't think that's the problem. Two other people who use the sitemap generator are on the same host as I am and they received their emails daily.

Additionally, having been using this generator for a couple of years now, I was receiving the emails prior to upgrading to this latest version.

I've posted this on the vbseo site, so perhaps I'll get some help there.

Thanks!

x-death 08-05-2008 12:42 PM

thanks....

stryka 08-05-2008 03:51 PM

Umm.... that sorta sux... have you gotten a respone on how this can be improved...?? Or is it just too early...

cuz you have a success rate of less than 1%

I have over 200K threads in my forum... lucky i didn't ask to do the posts...

CPB123 08-05-2008 04:10 PM

No idea. Probably has to do with (not using) SEO. Google likes to see words in links not just showthreadphp?=xxxx.

Google has reportedly indexed a little over 100 threads from my sitemap (these stats are contained in webmaster tools), but it has indexed hundreds of other pages on its own (based on http://www.google.com/search?q=site:[MY SITE URL HERE]). So I'm not sure how hit-or-miss this sitemap method is. I'm getting more traffic from Yahoo and Live bots though so at least that's a good thing.

thesackshack 08-05-2008 07:55 PM

Whats up everyone :D newbie here. first time install so be a little patient! I apologize to all you vets, these questions are gonna be SIMPLE to you.

1)Im learning as I go so, just to make sure before i go messing something up, when it says upload to 'forum root' folder, would it be this: public_html -> forums
(* I named the folder I put all of my vbulletin stuff in 'forums'*)

I uploaded it in the 'forums' folder, did the htaccess file and everything seems fine. Im on the final step where Im creating a scheduled task. At the very bottom it says 'product' and has options for vBSEO or Vbulletin. I havent purchased the $149 vBSEO program so I would go with vbulletin right?

stryka 08-05-2008 08:17 PM

Sorry CP... just a little confused... if you are not using SEO on your forum... then how are you using this modification?

ETDC 08-05-2008 08:21 PM

You don't need vbSEO to use this hack.

stryka 08-05-2008 09:16 PM

Ahh... ok... didn't know... thx... well i hope that all my stuff gets indexed... cuz i have VBSEO installed... my spiders are on my forums (based on online.php) but it isn't being reported ... it only shows the download report for google... i will wait another day before i get support...

bitwise2000 08-05-2008 09:23 PM

So, can someone tell me the possible causes of this:

Quote:

Unsupported file format Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit.
Running 3.7.2 on Apache

Google is picking up the maps, but generating that error.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled, CHMOD the data folder to 777, put .htaccess in the right place, and unless I am losing my mind, I've done everything I'm supposed to.

Ideas?

EDIT - Fixed... I had a lingering .htaccess issue

iojam 08-06-2008 02:59 PM

ETDC,

ISAPI_Rewrite is the module that your host should install to enable rewrite rules. If you don't have that module, you can generate sitemap and them move all *.gz files from vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder to forums root.

Scheduled task should be created automatically, you don't have to setup it.

Ah ok in that case you might have a better chance of getting more of your pages indexed.. make sure you sign up for webmaster tools if you haven't already so you can see all your stats

GoTTi 08-07-2008 06:17 AM

after the this is installed and working do we need to submit the direct link to the sitemap to google and yahoo? i noticed that after i generated the sitemap, msnbot downloaded it....

thanks for the info.

KTP 08-07-2008 09:29 AM

ps2wiz 08-07-2008 07:27 PM

I have a weird problem here. Everything seems to run fine, I can generate the site map fine and everything...

But then when I view I view it I get this error:

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/1327/z1yn5.jpg

And when I manually tried submitting the site map to google, I get this error:

http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/2458/z2xl9.jpg

Any help?

thesackshack 08-08-2008 04:27 AM

When clicking the sitemap addy from my Google webmaster tools, this is what comes up:

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

<sitemapindex xsi:schemaLocation=" http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9 http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/09/siteindex.xsd">

</loc>
<lastmod>2008-08-07T20:06:14+00:00</lastmod>

</sitemapindex>

Is something wrong?

iojam, I tried to open a ticket on vbseo.com for support. But it tells me I need to upgrade, and takes me to a page to purchase vbseo, which I don't want to do. I just want help with this :)
