Sorry for not responding sooner. Apparently I missed one of the notifications and wasn't aware that recent posts have been made. Just an FYI for everyone -- please eMail us or call us for technical support and questions; it's the best and quickest way to get in touch with us.

Maxman1544 -- Technical support inquiries should be addressed to support@addonchat.com as stated in the product description. Please open up a ticket by eMailing us and provide as much information as possible. I suppose it's possible the issue is related to the 3.7.2PL1 release you're using, but that should not cause a MySQL error. It looks like the message you posted had the SQL cut off.

dxflw, Goomzee -- This almost always indicates that the chat room ID number and/or server is not set correctly. Please ensure you entered the SC- chat room ID number, and not your RC- customer ID number. If this doesn't help, please eMail us :)

queengoc -- I've submitted a request for an additional hook to be placed into the forum templates. With any luck we'll get it in a future release. Right now, to perform such a mod would require manual template edits; something we're trying to stay away from with this product as it makes upgrading your forum and/or changing templates/styles very difficult.

nitrohoss -- CSS popup windows currently display behind applets. There are some hacks to get around this, but they're limited to a few browsers and are very dirty. I hope to see the option to specify a z-index for applets in the future.

Thanks Chris.

I see the free edition includes advertising. Exactly what advertising is there?

There is an AddonChat advertisement image in the upper-right hand corner. No other advertising than that. The biggest disadvantage to using the free service is the lack of options. You can request a trial upgrade for two week to test out any service level if you'd like by signing up for a free account and emailing support@addonchat.com with your account number and the service level and modules you'd like to trial.

Fungsten 08-05-2008 05:06 PM

I reinstalled everything too. When I go to your website and get to my control panel it says I need the Pro Edition.

lostinjapan 08-05-2008 11:58 PM

Probably a wonderful tool if you purchase the paid-for version. Based on screenshots it has an excellent interface and is very clean. :)

However...too much of a pita to get a free copy functional for a small gaming guild/kin website.

Am using Cyb's ChatBox instead. One file installed and it works.

queengoc 08-06-2008 05:46 PM

Thanks Chris, I'm looking forward to that update.

soundbarrierpro 08-06-2008 06:20 PM

Does this only have full window chat or small for under navbar too? Can you add it to cmps?

Grim77 08-06-2008 07:02 PM

AddonChat embeds onto any web page, though since it is a full featured chat room and not a simple shoutbox, we recommend giving it it's own page, or better yet, use the popup link option so that your users may chat while they continue to browse your site/forums.

CMPS (vbAdvanced) integration should be fairly simply -- it would just be a matter of editing their menu template to include a direct link to the AddonChat page in your vBulletin forum -- right now though, there hasn't been too many requests for an integration product specifically catered to vBadvanced CMPS -- perhaps in the future if we get some more requests :)

towermatt 08-08-2008 06:26 PM

I've requested the trial upgrade to check it out, hope to be hearing back soon.

aztecboi2003 08-31-2008 10:40 PM

Installed this but when i click on chat room it takes me to a new page that says:

Not Found

The requested URL /board/addonchat.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

How do I go about fixing this.

Scan Cape Cod 10-03-2008 01:28 PM

Installed easily and painlessly. Nice mod. One question: Is it possible with the free version to change the name "Chat Lobby" to something else? I have no need for multiple rooms; just looking for a simple chat room. I would prefer it said something other than Chat Lobby though. I looked through the files and couldn't find anything definitive, but then my .php skills are fledgling at best.

Thanks.

Scan Cape Cod 10-04-2008 01:23 AM

Hmmm....not so fast.

While I'm on the chatroom page, it seems that all of my vbulletin links have /addonchat/ as part of them. For example, the forums link, which should be mywebsite.net/forums/index.php shows mywebsite.net/forums/addonchat.php/index.php . When I'm not on the chat page, all links are fine.

I expect it's something I've done wrong somewhere, but I found nothing pertinent in this thread, or I missed it if there is info on this. The chatroom itself works fine. Again, this is the free version.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Thanks.

Edit: I should mention I'm running vBulletin 3.7.0.

Scan Cape Cod 10-06-2008 05:29 PM

Well, further proof that almost all problems such as my above one are caused by the installer and not the script itself. My only problem was a trailing / in the link I built into my navbar. I removed it and all is well. Sorry to waste the bandwidth, but I figured I'd follow up in case anyone else comes across the "problem".

Fungsten 10-06-2008 05:56 PM

When I go to the control panel at your site it says that I have to upgrade. I thought we could set up individual chatrooms with this free Mod.

Just to clarify -- this is completely untrue. As per the original post, we provide full support for this mod at support@addonchat.com or toll-free at 866.459.9810

A "service temporarily unavailable" message usually indicates that either the account number or server name was entered incorrectly; something we can resolve for you very quickly :)

You absolutely can use the free chat room :) You don't have to upgrade, but upgrading does provide a great deal more functionality. eMail support@addonchat.com with your account number if you'd like a trial upgrade.

If you're having problems getting the free room to work, just eMail us and we'll be happy to help!

Thanks for the update :) It looked like a web configuration issue to me when I first saw it. If you need any further assistance or suggestions, please let us know -- support@addonchat.com :)

Sounds like the installation wasn't performed correctly. The additional 404 error you're receiving is a configuration issue with your web host. If you'd like assistance installing the mod, just eMail us at support@addonchat.com :)

Your answers:

1. Yes, free and unlimited; however for complete secure integration, we do recommend the Pro+ edition.

2. It is hosted on our servers, so you incur no additional bandwidth/server-related fees. The free edition, Pro edition, and Pro+ editions all allow for unlimited concurrent users.

3. With this mod, provided you have the Pro+ edition or higher, you get complete integration with your vBulletin user database, including automatic login and secure remote authentication. You can then control permissions in the chat room from your vBulletin usergroup manager :)

4. UTF-8 is fully supported in this version! We also support right-to-left languages including Arabic and Hebrew.

5. Guest access depends upon how you configure the chat room. But, yes, you can certainly allow guest access (not-registered users)

6. It's possible, but not a standard part of this mod and really not recommended. Since the service is fully hosted by us, and integrates directly on your site -- i.e., your users won't know their chatting on our servers -- using a separate subdomain is not necessary at all.

7. No voice, no webcam. I typically refer people to Digichat.com (we have no affiliation with that company, but I'm happy to tell people where to look) for that. A/V conferencing is somewhat more expensive when done properly, and we find that a lot of our customers find their users just don't want to video conference in their pajamas :D -- For corporate environments though, where you really need A/V or file transfer, I'd try DigiChat.

Again, we do offer two week trials to any service to anyone who asks if you think the free edition won't cover your requirements, just eMail us at support@addonchat.com

Grim77 10-11-2008 01:33 PM

We're looking for feature suggestions for the next mod update.

With winter coming up, people tend to spend much more time online, so we try to tell our customers that now is a good time to start trying various chat applications as October through February are the best times of the year to help build your online community with a real-time chat interface.

We've had some requests for multiple chat room support (for users who have more than one chat room) and a couple requests for an option to disallow access from the usergroup editor.

Any other suggestions you may have are appreciated. You can either post them here, or eMail us. We'd like to get another update online here fairly soon :)

GoTTi 10-15-2008 06:42 AM

any way to add the users in chat to the "whats going on" on forumhome?

LanciaStratos 10-19-2008 02:59 AM

I've been using AddOnChat in my community for a few weeks now and the reception has been very high. From an administrative point of view, I have also been very pleased with the service. Integration was absolutely seamless and the configuration options allow for a very high level of control. My only suggestion (which I've just sent to Chris via email) is better handling of chat logs. Keep up the great work, guys!

abrecher 10-27-2008 05:01 PM

Wow, I'm really glad I moved over to Addonchat! I've been using FlashChat for almost 2 years and it's been causing me so many headaches I was just about to remove chat from my forum entirely.

I noticed users mentioned links to members profiles within the chat room. I don't see this as an option anywhere ?

To view a user's profile, right click on their user name in the chat and select the appropriate option. :)

All I get are two options:

Instant Message
Ignore

Nothing else ?

TMH63 10-29-2008 01:54 PM

With the Pro edition, will my member database info integrate with this chat?

As in, will my members use the same username and password to log into the chat?

Will my members even have to log into the chat at all once they are logged into my forums?

Thanks.

abrecher, I'm not sure what would be the reason for that. You should probably email AddOnChat directly as they don't provide support in these forums.

They don't even have to log in to the chat, it just opens up and they are logged in with their forum user name. I requested a two week trial of the Professional Plus service to see how the integration actually worked.

Absolutely! It does auto log in if they're already logged into your forum. I'm loving the product so far and so are my forum members.

What versions of addonchats are you both running? Like them? Any downfalls?

I'm still trying to figure out if there is a true and needed difference in paying the extra cost to go into the Pro Plus package.

Thanks!

I'm using Pro Plus. I was coming from FlashChat. We ran into so man issues with FlashChat it wasn't funny. You can pay monthly for Addonchat so you can see if you like it or not, that's what I did to start off.

TMH63 10-29-2008 04:30 PM

Server load and amount of users able to use the chat at once are my main two concerns. I have a relatively small forums right now, but growing at a descent rate so I want to accommodate future growth----today.

I'm currently running cyb chat and my bandwidth is being chewed up like MAD!! I have the refresh and timeout settings set so slow that I just can't stand it. I can't imagine what my members think. I need to do something else very soon.
