Really the only change in this modification is to replace the extension .gif with .png on the different images. It doesn't change anything to do with functionality. The only thing that I can think of is that the GTSmiliebox addon does a direct edit to the templates via a string replace that is changed. That isn't something that I can fix since I don't own the GTSmilieBox code.

Boosted Panda gave the answer. You have to go in and edit the XML for the GTSmilieBox from .gif to .png and it will work just fine with both. :)

Revert the templates that are modified.. Anything under Editor Templates.

What's wrong?.

I can see PNG icons only at visitor message and advanced view (when posting).
I can't see icons at quick answer , neither at quick edit
