Greetings...We will use this on AVSForum.com when their is the option to do it by forum sections. More or less, if you mark a thread in a given forum area that must be read, it only shows the notice if a person is going to POST in that section. We only have a few "problem" areas and thus is the reason we would like to see this.

Watching closely!

Thanks

Mine is not workings i have done the add on stuff for versions < 3.6.6 and i installed it fully, i seen it work once, and now it doesnt work anymore... any ideas?

SilverBoy 08-25-2007 02:14 PM

I installed it on 3.6.8 and it works fine, I want it to be allowed for Admins only, and no way to use it by moderators, or at lesat I can chose which user group can manage it (admins, super moderators or moderators).

SilverBoy 08-25-2007 02:16 PM

another thing, is there away to modify this to force users to vote on a poll? and he can't browse the forum without voting !!

Sierra Oscar 08-25-2007 07:47 PM

Excellent!

/installs.

that would be cool. It would be sweet if it could be set for specific usergroups or even specific people.

Any news on making this mod for specific boards on the forum, so the member only has to read the thread if they go to a certain forum board, such as the join board?

Thanks

ditto.

Busterking 08-27-2007 12:55 PM

Marked "uninstalled", some of my members are stuck in a loop, unable to access the forums even when that required post was NOT deleted.

Sorry but it's glitchy.

Interesting Idea. Will have to think about it.

I may know what loop you are talking about. But I would need more info like what threadIDs they would getting in loop.

Just wanted to install this but we noticed it cant be set per Forum.

Example:
----------------------------
Forum1
- SubForum1a
- SubForum1b
Forum2
- SubForum2a
- SubForum2b
Forum3
- SubForum3a
- SubForum3b
----------------------------
For Forum1 there is a Thread which is marked as "force to read". Now Users which access Forum1 or the Subforums in it 1a,1b, are forced to read this Thread.

If this will be possible, this Hack is going to be very usefull, because important notes (which differs from other notes in other forums) can be set to "must read".

We will take an eye on this Mod update and would be happy to see such changes :)

afmarko99 08-28-2007 11:42 PM

I installed this yesterday, upgraded to vb 3.6.8, deleted a thread with the required viewing and now my users are stuck in the loop also. Is there anyway to fix this? I am going to have to disable untill this is fixed.

Is there a way to clear the database for the thread that it tries to force them too? If I can delete the database then I will just make sure to not delete the threads untill you fix this.

Thanks

afmarko99 08-28-2007 11:51 PM

Ahh well. I just uninstalled and re-installed.

Abe1 08-29-2007 05:06 AM

Can you give me the exact info about the loop? Exact URLs and exaxt links.

tazB.ca 08-29-2007 08:11 PM

how do I force them to read an announcement

Fishing620 08-30-2007 12:47 AM

AWESOME! I was looking for a way to get my members to update their email addresses and this will work perfect. Thanks for doing this!

cclaerhout 08-30-2007 09:10 AM

Great hack ! Thanks a lot.

Mecho 08-30-2007 12:40 PM

i have vbadvanced in root and forum in /forum . so if i force users to read a forum's thread then in main page of site ( vbadvanced ) they will redirect to a wrong page ! ( root/showthread.php.... ) ! i tried to add a forum in the XML file , main page's link is ok now but if a user come to the forum he see will redirect to this > ..../forum/forum/.... !!

edit : i found another problem too . if u r using Recycle bin mod + this mod then u get an error when u want to move a thread to bin !! :(

any idea plz ?

lazserus 09-03-2007 12:50 AM

This modification only works with users using Internet Explorer. Any member using Firefox will never experience the modification. I'm not sure what part of the code separates the two, but through extensive testing over multiple machines and networks, I've seen that Firefox doesn't support the mod.

Update?

Alibass 09-03-2007 01:46 AM

@lazserus

Strange you say this m8, as FF is what I recommend all my members to use while viewing my board and I have NP's with this hack regardless if they are using IE or FF.

i get this problem as well, it doesn't respect the full path to the forum.

The administrators want you to view a thread before you continue to browse the forum.

You can view the thread here
The link goes to http://forum.com/showthread.php?t=1
whereas it should go to http://forum.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1

as per my forum settings.

Had to disable this, really hoping we can get a fix :)

htrshgytrs 09-04-2007 12:44 AM

i just edited the phrase, forceusersreadthread_read_thread and hardcoded the prefix.

**edit - which didn't work completely, sometimes it makes the link /vb/vb/showthread ...

Hoping for someone who knows what they are doing to help.

RFViet 09-04-2007 01:24 AM

So, if 50 posts set must read, then others have to read 50 posts ???

If you can get it to do this, then it will be perfect!

These are what I was looking for and why i came to this thread. It should be a simple sql query to find if a user has replied to thread/poll right?

That's odd. I tested this on two of my computers and also had someone on the other side of the globe run the same tests. We both received identical results. If we used FF we did not get any notification, but when we used IE we both saw the notification. What are the odds that two people on two networks on two different sides of the planet have identical results to a test and the results are just flukes?

Hi, this does NOT work with the latest version of Vbulletin ;)

Doctor Death 09-04-2007 10:46 PM

I am pretty sure I have the latest release and it works fine for me.

Having looked at the code I suspect you're wrong on that, there is no reason I can see that it wouldn't work on 3.6.8.

Spika 09-08-2007 08:14 AM

Works fine in 3.6.8!

Great Job!

BBF 09-09-2007 10:31 AM

works on 3.6.8?
and, it's works in announcements?

I used FF to develop this hack. No problems.
