great hack! thanks!!

GrendelKhan{TSU 08-30-2006 08:56 AM

for some reason this hack makes my Photoplog thumbnails on forumhome and forumdisplay disappear for guests (they dont show up).

I tried moving the thumbnails to different locations and templates but they still dont' appear. any ideas what the deal is? anyone else with this problem?

brvheart 08-30-2006 07:43 PM

I installed....but have a look www.mmaworld.org

The box is right on top of forums (no space between them) and I would like to have them above the google ads if possible. I put the $welcomeheaders in the navbar because I use the VBSEO....any help please?

I placed it back in header and it looks fine now...but I would like it to be in the navbar for optimization of VBSEO....

Photoplog Lite and Welcome Headers work just fine together on my site. Photoplog shows on the forumhome whether I'm logged in or out. I don't see photolog (lite) on forumdisplay either way on my site.

Thankyou.

I am really new at this, just getting started. This is the first add-on I have put on my board. Really simple and just what I was looking for.
Thanks.

Anyone interested - from the install instructions:

Add it to your instructions if you like, I'm sure there'd be enough people interested in the option to disable in the CMPS.

Thanks for this. Still a nube and you saved my butt.

Great hack... Now to get some results.

Thank you Ted S.

cowudders14 09-02-2006 04:27 PM

A superb mod - thanks!
The only suggestion I can see is to be able to display both the announcement and the "post more often" etc message. Would that be possible?

VViper 09-03-2006 01:10 AM

I am getting it hanging during install, are their any changes required to write permissions on the directories?

Peformed the changes as you suggested, and it seems to work as you describe. One question though: How about the Enable One-View Welcome Headers feature?

How it's acting for me is:
1)If I go to my vBa page first, the Welcome Headers do not show up.(just as I expected):D
2)If I then jump to my forums (from my vBa page), the Welcome Headers still do not show up.:confused:
3)If I go straight to my forums page (bypassing vBa) the Welcome Headers do show up fine. Then when I change, or reload,the page the Welcome Headers go away.(as I expect them to):D

So, is this how it should act per the code? I'd prefer when I do step #2 above that the Welcome Headers would show up once, as I hit the forum page.(coming from my vBa page) Is that possible somehow? Thanxx.

i have vbseo but if i put $welcomeheaders in the navbar it doesnt work but if i leave it in header it works will it mess vbseo if i leave it in header?

category 09-03-2006 08:07 PM

also in vb options i dont see welcome header system i only see welcome header messages

cowudders14 09-03-2006 08:58 PM

I can say that vbSEO and welcome headers work perfectly together. Have a look at my site for proof:
http://www.daftmoo.org.uk/mooforum/

I find welcome headers to be a very useful tool.

pmkb 09-04-2006 03:42 PM

Hmmm... My guest welcome_guest phrase includes a link with {2} as the target URL and it is resolving to: domain/forums/register.php?.

The question mark at the end causes the page to not resolve (ie. error 404). How can I fix that properly? (I changed the phrase to "hardcode" the proper URL)

pmkb 09-04-2006 04:01 PM

Well, looks like I was wrong about the ? being the problem. Everything works fine when testing from the forum home page. Unfortunately, it does not include the /forum/ directory when testing from my CMPS home page on the domain root. I had to hard code the URLs in all the phrases.

vbSEO can handle the welcome headers just fine. The change is a an SEO recommendation (from the vbseo team) to help optimize your site, it is not to make the system work with vbseo, vbseo will work with it either way.

The body tag is used to change the attributes of your entire page, not a specific part of it. You need to modify the actual table cell the header message is in (<td ...>). If you are new to html and css please check www.w3schools.com

The show one time system will show the message on the first page you visit and no subsequent pages during that user session; if however you have disabled the headers from showing on certain pages, or do not have it setup to work with vba, they won't show at all. That's outside of the scope of this hack however.

In my admincp it says it is version 4.1.1 after just upgrading now.

Black Tiger 09-05-2006 02:12 PM

I just installed vBadvanced, and now the welcomeheaders aren't showing up on the main portal. Is there a way to fix this?

pmkb 09-05-2006 07:15 PM

^^^ see posts 113-115

Black Tiger 09-05-2006 07:37 PM

Ah coolness! It works.

Thanks for your reply!!

popowich 09-06-2006 04:09 PM

4.1.2 displays as 4.1.1 in the admin control panel.

jack-d 09-06-2006 10:10 PM

I just down loaded this and was wondering if the install guide was not updated for vb3.6

the reason i ask is because the code that is listed in the guide to remove from the FORUMHOME template does not match what is actually in the v3.6 template.

the block to remove is easy to spot just different code. thought i would ask before i tear it up.

thanks

Black Tiger 09-06-2006 11:47 PM

I have 3.6 and had a look at the begin and end lines and they were exactly the same as in the guide.
This is exactly the same, start from here:
<if condition="$show['guest']">
<!-- guest welcome message -->
<tr>

And remove everything there with the below things as last lines:
<!-- / guest welcome message -->
</if>
That matches exactly the 3.6 template. So just remove in 3.6 the complete "if" condition of the guest welcome message from <if> till </if>, that should do the trick and worked fine on my 3.6 gold forum.

sabillondesigns 09-07-2006 05:28 PM

Ok i just installed this on my v. 3.6.0 and i have different styles...
for some reason it messed up the header on some styles...

anybody had this problem? how can i fix it? (the weird thing is that i didnt even change anythig in the header, i used the navbar template)

works great on most styles tho!

Go here and change the style to Retro Look.....so you can see wats happening..

phpdevrus 09-07-2006 09:47 PM

:-) heh one of my favorite mods

it was great with 3.5.4 and now ever better with 3.6

keep up the good work.

Sean James 09-08-2006 01:00 AM

Ive just un-installed this MOD temporary and reverted my forumhome template, but i am still seeing the welcome headers.
How do i completely remove this plugin?

Ted S 09-08-2006 04:52 AM

Once you remove the plugin it will no longer show on any page. There is however a welcome message included in the default forumhome template that comes stock with vbulletin. You can remove this at your chosing but it is a part of the original forumhome template.

tobybird 09-11-2006 03:54 AM

Well I am at a complete loss here. I had to remove this mod and reinstall. Since then everything is working great with the exception of the Guest Headers which I had turned off and then back on after the reinstall. By working great I mean that all of other features of this mod are working as expected. Also the mod was working before the reinstall and no other hacks were installed during this time.

What I've done so far: I have verified the existance of the welcome_guest phrase in phrase manager. I see this code in the welcome_headers template:

Code:

<!-- guest welcome message -->
                <br />
                <table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center">
                <tr>
                        <td class="alt1">
                                <phrase 1="faq.php?$session[sessionurl]" 2="register.php?$session[sessionurl]" 3="$vboptions[bbtitle]" 4="sendmessage.php$session[sessionurl]">$vbphrase[welcome_guest]</phrase>
                        </td>
                </tr>
                </table>
                <!-- / guest welcome message -->

My Header template contains the code $welcomeheaders at the bottom of the template. My FORUMHOME template does not contain the guest welcome message chunk of code. The varname is $vbphrase[welcome_guest] in the ACP. And yes, it is turned on.

I am by no means an experienced coder. So I'm sure I've missed something here. Any advice would be much appreciated because I really could use this hack. Thanks in advance!

tobybird 09-11-2006 08:22 PM

Anyone with any insight as to what this problem might be? Thanks!
