I made a post on my site and started using the new buttoms and info it lets you use and all of a sudden norton poped up and said I had a virus, so I went and did a scan on the zip and the unziped files and was clear.!

Willard Reece 10-24-2002 12:24 AM

I am going to use this to be able to keep on using the hack,

Security fix
Open the vbcode_buttons template. Replace the entire contents with the contents of the attached zip file.

Then, in your Admin Panel click on "Modify" under the "Custom vB Codes" section. Remove the following vB codes:
? Flash
? Wave Files
? RAM Files

What this does:
This fix removes the ability for users to post Flash files in threads. (A potential security risk.) In my case, I've also removed WAV files (because they can be plain annoying) and RAM files (because these are rarer, and also plain annoying).

Man ... smoking crack is bad for you! Let the man who created the hack do his work! If someone gots probs with this hack, let him handle it.

If you like, create one simular to his, and post it. You're stealin the guys thunder here and being a disrespectful peep!

And kill the noise about a virus ... I aint found one so what's up with dat?

Goldknight 10-24-2002 01:25 AM

actually HiSquad's hack is best one but John.evoie want to warn everyone about flash but as for wav or ram, it is ok to use.

If I go ahead and register at any board that support flash and I ll swipe the admin password under nose without notice what I did. It is so simple. Thats why John concern about that. That s all.

Bison 10-24-2002 01:37 AM

But doesn't the file extension have to be registered (accepted) as a legitimate file (attachment) upload before you can perform this?

Goldknight 10-24-2002 02:22 AM

Yes you are right but I can fake email address, fake username and everything else then I got the permission to use the attachment and swipe. It is really sticky situation, thats why many hackers refuse to make any hack that can support flash like avatar and few things.

Willard Reece 10-24-2002 03:37 AM

You know Rolodex
You opened your mouth.
I'm not downing his hack.. I just said I downloaded it and installed it and when I went to use it .
My norton popped up and said it had a virus.
OK!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as what you are saying It pissed me off when someone jumps in like you have and says this.

And if you had read my post you would have seen that I ask if anyone else saw this in the zip.

I never once said I didn't like or appreciate the hack.
but there is 1 thing and it is the sound that is in it when you go to your admin area to edit the bbcode.

As far as the remark on crack goes I don't use it and don't like the term either.

Bison 10-24-2002 04:03 AM

Well you should have stated that this may be an isolated issue. You're not the one that I have the comment about. It's the other guy who's exciting fear into everyone here. his approach was terrible ... not contacting the author about this issue and creating a fix for everyone and making the guy look bad.

Your situation could have been on your side of the coin. Try scanning your computer first and your downloads before storing them on your pc. You should have caught this before opening the file.

Also you may have your scan settings to high which could have gave you a false alarm. I use norton 2003 pro and accept downloads with Flashget (Which I have it scan the files after downloading).

Better to perform these procedures before announcing something that you didn't take the precautions to check before posting it on the the board. It only adds to the fire here with the other gentlemans comment.

Respect the hackers here cause thay are the one's who beautify your boards without asking for a red cent from anyone. All they want is a "thank you" and a click in the upper right hand corner of your browser!

If you have any comments about their work they mostly provide assistance and that means a lot to me to see someone who sweat it out and also provide assistance! I'm a Developer myself and I know how they feel!

Willard Reece 10-24-2002 04:16 AM

About the only thing you said here that I didn't do is scan the file before opening it.
I run the norton scan dailey on my pc and I also use 2003pro.
I had just ran norton about 2 hours before I downloaded the hack too. and my hd was good to go.

as far as repecting the writer of any hack, I thank them for it.
and as you say they the hackers keep our sites looking great with the new features they make.

when you said kill the noise about the virus I took it you were talking to me about the whole comment you wrote.

Anyway enough said. I like the hack and will keep on using it.
It does make thing easier on my site.
