Does this hack work with 2.2.8?

Yes, I'm running 2.2.9. There have been no changes to this area since at least 2.2.4.

any idea if this hack with work with 3.x versions or know of a hack that has this feature?

This hack is not for vb3.

I've not looked into a vb3 version since the unmodified implementation works fine me.
