I'll install phpnuke meanwhile!
I would like to know if it would be better for me to install it in the same database as VBB, so I can in the future add your hack?

Thanks again, and I won't presure you to write the hack :)
DO it whenever you can, you didn't need to do this at all, so again I thank you!

The hack that I am doing for ey143 (I really shouldn't say that -- he had the idea, but I am doing it for me :)) adds categories to posts so that users can mark information. It will all be clear in an hour or so, I hope! We should release it next week once he has had a chance to test it.

As for where to install PHPNuke, I have not looked at the database for it, yet, but I would suspect that it would be cleaner to install it in its own database and have vB look up information from it rather than plugging more tables into vB's forum database. However, I have not installed it, yet, so that I cannot say with any firsthand knowledge of the actual workings.

Hmmmm, don't get it, but I can't wait to see it! :)

I heard about PHP-Nuke before and it looked really neat, so I was interested to hear about the security bug in v 2.5 mentioned earlier. Funny, when I checked that link, I read that v 3.0 also has a security bug:
http://virtue.wox.org/~virtue/articl...readed&order=0
PHP-Nuke seems to be a promising product but it's a shame that it's not handled professionally (i.e. not a lot of info on the website, those security bugs, administration of project on sourceforge.net not handled very well, people behind it seem to know little English).
I might give it a try anyway, but if it cost $200 and it was as professionally handled as vBulletin (or even integrated), I would be ecstatic and buy it straightaway (hint, hint) - like I bought vBulletin.
P.S. Does vBulletin also have any security bugs?

PHP-Nuke is free!

09-12-2000 03:10 PM

I know! I think it is a great piece of software for free

BUT my hypothetical point is, if it was not free (but less than $200) AND if it had no security bugs, etc. - I would be more inclined to use it.
Of course if PHP-Nuke had no security bugs, etc. (see list above) AND it was free I would use it straightaway.
At the moment PHP-Nuke DOES have security bugs, etc. AND it is free - I might give it a try.
Also see: http://virtue.wox.org/~virtue/articl...readed&order=0

This is all based on exterior judgement, I have not yet used PHP-Nuke.

yes it's still buggy, I set up last night on a test server, and I got a mysql error, then I fixed the eror, and the polls wouldn't work, I'll try phpweblog, and or phpslash now, do you guys recommend a slash dot php type?
