I'm using old at top (or new at bottom as I said in my first post :D )

Here, I typed 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 in that order in my shout box. the first image is when I scroll all the way down. The second is when it auto refreshes... You can see it is now missing shouts 6 and 7 (and someone else's shout that they got in there before I got the screen shot taken) I hope this is clearer for you.
Thanks!

@VBDev

Is there anyway to have a log of moderator actions in the shoutbox.
I just had a situation with someone editing other peoples shouts and pruning the shoutbox.
I've allowed mods and assistant admins manage shoutbox permissions. But either someone got drunk or maybe someone logged into their account, but in any case I'd like to find out who did those actions, as I don't think they'll come clean.

In the styles and template manager, can you check for this style what is the path to the misc images for it ?

Maybe it's not called misc for that style, this could be the reason.

Of course...I do not have the chat box on any of my forum pages...I just have a link to the Chatbox on my navbar and it opens its own page.

One other thing...the smilies add a nice touch, but for those who have a lot of smilies, the way you have it implemented, really isn't user friendly. If you want to display your board's smilies and have a lot...then they take up a lot of space when opened through the chat box. You may want to implement a feature like the smilie category hack that opens a separate window when the chat box smiley face is clicked...then let the user select the smiley from within categories. Just a thought...but a good one.

Yes I'll wait for it to be reproduced coz I remembered having tested it and it was working :/

Yes I know that the way I implemented it is not that much user friendly.

But implementing in another way could make it harder and I didn't had the time though to work on that part. But I think for the version following the new one, I might dig into that by building up a smilies selection page :)

As baby41 said to you, you have to upload the images n all your misc directory.

And perhaps activate the bbcode and smileys options if needed :)

On your second screenshot, the 6 and 7 are shown IMO below if you scroll down no ?

I still don't see the problem.

What I know is that as soon as you scroll, these kind of phenoma tends to appear.

No sorry, this functionnality is not yet implemented.

Anyway this is an interesting one, come to me after the release of the next version so that I could build that up. I think it could be an easy one to implement.

According to the screenshot, I think you have made the modification to the navbar tempalte while your skin doesn't have a navbar :)

You should remove those modifications, there are not mandatory and as they are not compatible with your skin I think it would be better.

When you first go into the shout box, you can see everything. Then when it auto refreshes you lose the bottom 3 or so lines, so you scroll back down to see them, then it auto refreshes and they go away... So every 10 seconds when it refreshes, you have to scroll back down to see the last 3 shouts. While the shouts still exist, I don't understand why it pops up 3 lines every time it refreshes.

I guess I'll just wait and see if the new version does it. If it does, I can try to explain what I'm talking about better :)

I'll be watching for the chance to beta test for you ;)

You can also share the italian language file as there are none for the moment.

i have a problem with my chatbox.
first: its working great :)
but there is one little mistake.

i have "autorefresh set to 2 seconds"
but with every refresh the chat scrolls to the bottom (the newest message)
its impossible to read "older" posts.

can u fix that?
thx,
nebu

VBDev 11-27-2007 12:23 PM

Wow 2 seconds :D

You should becareful when putting a such lower rate, this could grow your server load !

This is an issue already reported, I thought it was working well but it seems like it's not. I'll have to check that out but this won't be corrected until the release of the next version as you can imagine :)

You Should Set Your Autorefresh to More than 30 to 60 Seconds to Allow your Users to Read the Posts!! ;)

As VBDev says, by using 2 Seconds you're Loading your Server with lot's of Data Requests and you're also Using a lot of the Data Transfer of your Site Hosting!!

This Hack Consumes a Lot of Data Transfer, so be careful with that Aspect, and more if your Forum has lot's of Visitors and Members Browsing the Pages and Loading the Chatbox everytime they Refresh the Page!!

This is the Best ChatBox Hack I've seen on vBulletin, I Hoppe VBDev release Version 2.0 Very Soon!! ;) :p

My Best Regards!! ;)

It would be good if there was functionality in vb options to edit the ban list, as well as the ability to specify userids & groups that are unbannable. Also a usergroup permission to use the ban functionality (such as exists for /pm and /ignore).

I didn't find it too funny when I was banned from the chatbox by an experimenting admin. Had to run some sql queries to get back in. :(

thisgeek 11-28-2007 02:02 AM

Sorry about the double post, but I thought it would be better to keep topics seperate.

Feature request:
My users have requested the ability to add/remove reputation based on chatbox entries.

Not sure how painful this would be to implement.

The ban list can be edited while typing /showban so I won't add a separate a new page for that especially with the change in my code for the new version.

However, I think I'll add the abitiliy to specify which usergroups/userids can't be banned.

About the permission to use the functionnality the usergroup permissions will automatically be added due to the code changes.

To clarify - vbulletin has the reputation system built in where a user can add reputation to a user for a good forum post, or take rep away for a bad post - by clicking the scales icon on the top right of a post (Which is only visible if the reputation system is activated).

Anyway, when it comes to the chatbox, users would like to be able to utilize the rep system to give or take rep for comments posted in the chatbox.

Does that make sense?

Another issue: If you change the size of the input field, it causes the chatbox to be bigger than the width of the page, and users have to scroll sideways.
It would perhaps be better if the buttons to the side of the input field could wrap to the next line.

This is configuration dependent, so I am sorry but my answer will be now.

If you decide to have a bigger input field and the buttons are a problem then you should edit your templates but I won't complicate things for that purpose ;).

RockMTP 11-28-2007 04:27 PM

This is a nice looking shoutbox but I think i've gone wrong somewhere when installing.

I followed the readme file, the shoutbox appeared on the home page but there are no options on it - only the 'go' button is there. Also, if I click the link 'MGC chatbox' thats next to a username in the shout box i get this route, example '/mp user "username" ' in the text box.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be great as i'd really like to implement this as it seems far superior to the shoutbox i currently use.

Thanks

For the link, this is normal behaviour.

For the buttons not appearing, this is perhaps because you haven't uploaded the mgc_chatbox image directory in all of your styles misc folder :)

RockMTP 11-28-2007 10:02 PM

Thank you for your help, got it working.

One thing i would like to suggest (not sure if its been said before) is that if users select a new font and colour it then stays as their default.

Can't wait for the new version now!

Thanks

This is already done but through the user cp.

If you have done the modification to the modifyoptions template (which is mandatory) users should be able to select their default color/fonts/face for the chatbox :)

RockMTP 11-29-2007 10:10 AM

Hi VBDev,

Thanks for your quick replies!

I did make the template changes but when i change the font/colour i get the bb code in the text box which i type my message between:

[f0nt=Book Antiqua][col0r=#FF0000]Text Here[/color][/font]

If you want to change the font / colour you have to select them for every message.

:)

VBDev 11-29-2007 10:35 AM

Ok but have you been to your usercp in to modify your options concerning the chatbox ?

RockMTP 11-29-2007 01:06 PM

Hi,

I changed a few settings but no change.

Sorry, i don't mean to bug you over something so small...I'll play around with it and try and figure it out. Its not the end of the world after all!

Still a great addition....Thanks

adnedarn 11-29-2007 06:33 PM

RockMTP- I think you're not looking in the right place? Go into your own User CP then under Edit Options. There you'll see options to be invisible or thread display options... scroll down till you see something like in the screen shot I provide. Set up the font/color you want there and it will be "yours" for all your posts in the shout box. hope that helps.

Hi,

Finally got some time to try and enable the posting rule. I got it to work and like you pointed out actually quite simple but the only thing I don't know or understand how to do is to enable a message in the shoutbox area (when disabled) telling the member why it is disabled "You can only use the shoutbox bla bla bla".

Should I add a phrase for that and call it from a new template?

Many Thanks

Basically what you have to do is edit the chatbox plugin attached to the global hook.

In this hook, you'll find a global condition to check if the chatbox is active ($vboptions[mgc_chatbox] or kinda, I don't have the code beyond the eyes so don't remember the exact one).

Before the content in the condition, you have to add an sql query to count the messages since the last 24 hours (dynamic count):

Code:

$getcount = $vbulletin->db->query_first("SELECT COUNT(postid) AS nb_posts FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "post WHERE userid='" . $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'] . "' AND dateline > '" . ( TIMENOW - 86400 ) . "'");
The query is not tested so you should verify before that the postid and dateline fields are the good one in the post table (for the postid I am pretty sure but not for the dateline).

Then you have to put all the actual part of the condition in a second condition :
Code:

if ($getcount['nb_posts'] > 10) {
/* Put the actual content of the condition here */
}

Where 10 is the number of posts per day you require before using the chatbox.

Of course this a homemade and hardcoded modification so you could also replace the 10 value by the one you want or even better, create a new option in the chatbox group (possible by activating the debug mode) to do just the same thing but giving easier access to modify it ;)

Feel free to ask for any help if you encounter problems ! And give me back the final code so that I could use it in the versions following the v2.0.

I suppose you have done the mandatory modification to the modifyoptions template so you just have to go in your usercp and then you'll see chatbox options for that purpose :)

I upgraded to the newest version and I am still having problems. It is continuously loading, and the chatbox's width is exceeding the width of my forum. Any ideas?

My chatbox appears on page well, but is locked up and continues to read "Loading..."
I have seen some have been helped with this problem, but I did not see the fix has been posted.

Also the archive link, link buttons and chatbox navbar dropdown links (see att.):

view_archive&page=1, view_chatbox & showaide

Must not point to the correct page, as they open to a "cannot find" page.

I have been through all of my server side files multiple times, checked and rechecked templates, reloaded Js files, and reinstalled products - all to no avail.

With what I pointed out, the chatbox won't show, am I right ?

Then I think you should have to create new mgc_chatbox template with only the table header and the phrase as content, calling it mgc_chatbox_lack_posts for example.

You'll have to edit:
  • both the 3 hooks regarding the display on the forumhome, forumdisplay and showthread
  • the mgc_chatbox.php file for the full mode display
  • the condition you have added by putting a else to manage the display in case of show on all pages under the navbar or in a variable
In order to display the mgc_chatbox_lack_posts template instead of the mgc_chatbox template when the user has not done enough posts.

Do you think you can handle that?

I have had a look, that's strange there are no javascript errors.

Do you have reverted all the templates of the chatbox before/after the upgrade in case you modified something ?

All uploaded files are the one ?

By the way, you have done the modification in the navbar template wrong as I have been able to infer from your link :)
