I looked through some recent posts to see if this had been requested as a feature but I couldn't find it. So either way...my request is to add a feature where the users have to post a certain number of times to play...I think this was originially done via the ArcadePass hack which is now completely useless to anybody and everybody.

AndrewZ 01-09-2004 08:02 PM

What about the forum pointing to proarcade.php?

TheSonic 01-09-2004 09:28 PM

futureal: Any hints for the vb3-Arcade-ReleaseDate :D

This is what I did:

</a><a href="proarcade.php?action=arcade&s=">Arcade</a>

Put that in the "Title" of the forum you are wanting to point the arcade to. vb2 doesn't have the option to make forums that just simply forward to another destination so it will just have "0" in the posts and threads column and for the most part will make it look kinda wimpy...so what i did was add a sub-forum to the link to the arcade so people can talk about the arcade and therefore keep that from looking so empty...anywho....

Thanks :)

One final thing.

The thing to get the icons and game name of the games the user is champion isnt working for me. Its not showing up at all... Here is a section of my postbit.

PHP Code:

You link to your game directory is wrong. Search this thread. Your problem is the most common problem.

Hmm. If you are sure about these issues then the only possibility would be that your code in your game is not correct. In the last entry field of each game you have to specify the game location. If the game location is not correct then you get a black screen.

You have 2 possible errors:

- your <object> is not correct and the link to the source swf file is wrong
- if your <object> is correct and using the variables, then your directory is wrong for the games

Try to manually put the path into the <object> tag and see what happens. If it works, then your path is not set correctly.

( i hope you uploaded all .swf files into the correct directory onto your server )

Cheers,

Pseudomizer

Pointing to the game directly will never work, since the script must pass in a "location" variable so it knows where to redirect to.

If your games directory is in yourdomain.com/games (for example) then try setting the Admin CP setting to "/games/" (with the preceeding slash). If your games are in yourdomain.com/forum/games then you want it to be "games/" (without the preceeding slash).

This problem arose because I (stupidly) figured that most people would not place the games within their forum directory. I said "make a games directory on your server" and to most people that meant "make a games directory inside your forum directory on your server."

If this still isn't working (check Pseudomizer's post as well) I'll see if I can think of anything else.

On the vB3 version:

Currently working on re-coding the admin panel to match the vB3 style. I had previously made my own style, so this ended up being more work than I wanted it to be.

Sorry for the delays, I spent the past weekend doing event photography work for a magazine.

Hang in there...

*arie 01-12-2004 06:15 PM

wow photography? hope you had fun. :)

can't wait for the release. :D

Any help on my problem?

str8ballin 01-15-2004 01:20 PM

Ok I was Searshing for awhile and thought it would be easyer to ask the question.

Is theyre a way to have it so the amount of posts a user has determines wether or not a user is allowed to play in the arcade?

Ie.. Can I set up something that only allows access to the arcade if you have atleast 20 posts?

I keep getting people sign up not posting but playing the arcade games, its quite annoying as the arcade is a bonus feature for my dedicatyed members not just anyone who wants to run my bandwidth up.

Wolfy.2k 01-15-2004 03:42 PM

hi, i have installed proarcade and i thought it went with no problems...

until i went on the arcade page and all of the images have a little x sign and also the games dont load up and cant be found

i uploaded both the /games/ and /graphics/ to my forums folder, but it aint working?

please help!!

cheers

ahh, i have 2.3.4, wud that be the problem?

futureal 01-15-2004 07:12 PM

AndrewZ: If everything is installed correctly, you may just need to go the General Options setting in your vB Admin Control Panel and re-submit, this should cause it to update the global settings. I'm not 100% sure if that will help or not but it is all I can think of at the moment.

str8ballin: If you know a little bit about PHP coding, this shouldn't be too hard. There is a variable stored in the $bbuserinfo array that has a user's post count (I don't recall the name) so you could just write a simpme check in proarcade.php to determine whether or not a user has enough posts to play. The caveat is that you may end up with people posting junk in order to be able to play. A better and more complex method would be to check the user's activity level in the forum, but that's much more complicated.

Wolfy.2k: In the Arcade Admin Panel, change the "/games/" location to "games/" and it should probably work. Let me know if it doesn't. The hack works fine with 2.3.4.

futureal 01-15-2004 07:15 PM

The vB3 port should be coming very soon now. I think that instead of releasing a "Beta 2.1" for vB2 I will actually make it an official release and finally move it out of beta. Most of the known problems in this version have been corrected, assuming my Mozilla testers report success.

vbProArcade v1.x will be the current vB2 beta version
vbProArcade v2.x will be the vB2 version
vbProArcade v3.x will be the vB3 version

This way the version numbers will line up with the vBulletin version numbers. Hope that makes sense.

thanks for the reply, but im not good with php, I can follow instructions id say pretty well but Im not really a 'coder'. Can you find some time to help me maybe with a detailed 'how to' on this subject.

I know this might sound stupid but isnt theyre a way to just implement some code that only allows certain users with certain 'user titles' to play in the arcade? Im sure a few people would like this option as its easiest in my opinion to group who your real dedicated members are going by 'user title'.

Im baffled right now all I know is I have a string of unknown people playing in the arcade and its obvious they just signed up to play the games, so the arcade is being abused by outsiders quite annoying!

Would you expect "very soon" to be < 1 week / 1-2 weeks / 3-4 weeks / more ? :squareeyed:

Deska 01-16-2004 12:16 PM

I'm waiting....

scottct1 01-16-2004 12:42 PM

I am sure it will be out by VB4. :D

Looking forward to playing with it! :)

I think he will release the hack "yesterday" ....

futureal 01-16-2004 10:15 PM

Less than a week from now. To answer another question I received, no I have not converted the hack to phrases yet -- but I will eventually.

str8ballin, I will see if I can come up with something.

Oblivion Knight 01-16-2004 11:05 PM

My hat is off to futureal for creating seemingly one of the most wanted modifications for vB3, and for how well he is coping with the HUGE demand for the mod's release.. Top stuff.!

I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of the newer vB2 version.. :)

str8ballin 01-17-2004 01:27 PM

Yeah, I can see how much pressure he has now vb3 is out.

^^ Im also just looking foward to when he finishes the new vb2 version.

futureal: thanks I hope it isnt too much trouble if you help me out and Id really appreciate it.

PixelFx 01-18-2004 12:14 AM

;) wonder if we will get new vb3 art with vb3 RC3 ? I can help with templates for arcade in vb2 & 3 again if needed, ...

Wolfy.2k 01-18-2004 05:47 AM

hmm that hasnt work mate, i tried that and no difference, still lots of Xs and now of the scoreboards will load up, even thought i kno the templates are there!!

please help :P

cheers

------------------

i have a feeling that my skin mite be doing it, i am using a vbskinz plasma skin, i also have vbportal on my site.. any ideas mate?

futureal 01-18-2004 07:35 AM

wolfy.2k: If the scoreboards themselves will not even load, then it sounds like either your templates are messed up, or the hack was installed incorrectly...

...and a quick update for vB3:

I am working on the hack whenever I have the chance, and I am honestly pretty happy with how this is fitting into vB3. Now that I have taken the time to actually try and integrate it, a lot of the code is smoother and really just that much cooler.

After further study, I've taken the plunge and begun to implement phrases for everything that is hardcoded into the Admin CP. I will deal with phrases in the templates at some later date (most likely -- I want to get this released).

I also spent the evening playing around with the bitfield permission model in vB3, and this is going to make it much easier to configure things like which admins can edit stuff in the arcade, which users can use the arcade, and whether or not the champions stuff is displayed.

I am hoping to post screenshots tomorrow or Monday.

Thanks.

Oblivion Knight 01-18-2004 09:12 AM

One question futureal, it was suggested a few posts back that the Arcade could have two types of scoring systems with a switch in the admin cp game settings, the higher the score = the higher the rank (current), and also the lower the score = the higher the rank (for turn based games such as "Pairs"). Will this be implemented into this release or will that be an optional addon later on.?

D|ver 01-18-2004 03:43 PM

i have al small question:
does the vb3 version include a challenge system like the vb3 arcade hack?

futureal 01-18-2004 05:08 PM

Oblivion Knight: Yes, that feature is included.

D|ver: No, it does not include that, although it could be added at a future date. I've not taken a close look at John's hack at this point; I'd like mine to remain a different beast.

futureal 01-19-2004 04:18 AM

Since there is an alternative out there now that will give people something to work with for those who need arcades right away, I am going to take the extra time to finish "phrasing out" the hack. That should finish making it vB3-compliant, so to speak.

Still will be less than a week though. :)

Oblivion Knight 01-19-2004 08:01 AM

What about the vB2 version.?
I am eagerly awaiting for this improvement, and the reducing of queries..

futureal 01-19-2004 08:08 AM

I will try to get the vB2 version out sooner if I have a moment. There is one remaining bug that PixelFx found which I need to correct, and then re-package it.

PixelFx 01-20-2004 01:45 AM

:)

Pagandream 01-22-2004 08:09 PM

Hi,

there is still this Netscape & Opera error, after a game. It shows me always :

Quote:

vbProArcade Error: Invalid game name specified (todo: put something pretty here later)
Is there a way to fix this or will be an update for this hack one day, wich will also work with vb 2.3.4, coz it seems to be that everyone is getting on vb3?

PS: Sorry for my strange Englisch!

hej da!
Pagan

MaDCaT75 01-23-2004 08:12 AM

Can the person who did copter for vb pro arcade do it for vb3 arcade please????

mx3 01-25-2004 11:02 PM

Problem with the vB2 version. Seems that the games are taking forever to load, if they load at all. I don't remember having this problem in the last version of the arcade, but this version 2 seems to hate me. Any idea on why these games wouldn't be loading correctly?

futureal 01-26-2004 01:11 AM

I can't think of any reason offhand why this might happen. Do the games eventually load, but just slowly? If they eventually load then... hmm... I can honestly say I'm not sure!
