Now I really don't understand the problem. So let's recapitulate ...
Did the category "suddenly disappear" or did you delete it yourself as you are saying also:

If you delete categories, files should really be deleted also (if you don't choose to move them to another category). I just tested it to be sure, and it really works correctly.

If you deleted the category yourself (and didn't move the files, but choosed to delete them) and you say there are files of that category still present, please give me a concrete url of such a file on your site.

Try restarting the Apache webserver after doing such edits. That's why the .htaccess way is a bit easier (create a file with that name, put the content I mentioned before into the file and upload it using FTP to your vBulletin forums directory).

But really several days ago thet rules worked good
What can i do?

I don't know the vBSEO rules, so I don't know if there are any errors in them or so. Try removing them all and check if it works again. If it does, those url rewrite rules need to be wrong in some way.

Q1: i'm having another program. i did everything in the installation instructions and i went to upload a test file and it wouldn't let me upload a flash file or a wma file. i allowed those types of file extensions in the file manager but still nothing :S

Q2: is there any way i can link the Top 5 uploaded files onto my homepage? thanks a lot.

Q1: Did you do the chmod with the other FTP-program? If you didn't set the 777 permissions for the downloads directory, uploading won't work (as PHP can't move any files to the directory without having the permission to do it). Are there any notices on the top/bottom of the downloads section (normally the software gives you a notice if there's something wrong with the directory and/or its chmod)?

Q2: If you are using vBadvanced CMPS for your homepage, you can use the DownloadsII ver 5.0 vbAdvanced Add-On to do this. There's also a vBPortal block avaiable at phpportals.com.
If it's a custom coded frontpage, you can check the vBadvanced add-on PHP code if you are a bit familiar with PHP. It's pretty easy to recode.

Have a look at this post, the answer to TB Poparts quote. It's a PHP limit that you need to change by changing php.ini or by uploading a .htaccess file like I described in that post.

Try reuploading all files if there's no Downloads category in the AdminCP (like this). You probably missed uploading /includes/xml/cpnav_ecdownloads.xml, which is putting DownloadsII in the AdminCP navigation.

Hey, I this mod was perfect for a project that I'm doing. This is my first vBulletin project, so it would have taken me forever to figure out how to do something not nearly as elegant as this. I've coded with Invision before in the past and I often build Drupal based sites for clients. I'm very impressed by the user community around vBulletin. The volume of quality stuff being put out is impressive.

I just have a question about the credits in the footer. I need to have a branding free footer for the client I'm building this site for. Can that be arranged? CyberRanger + Jelle, I'd be happy to pay you guys something to let me go branding free and/or I could arrange to cite the credits in a creative way, like mentioning that you guys + Ronin did the downloads part in my site portfolio.

maidos 10-25-2007 09:45 AM

actually my upload size limit is already 600 mb and i sitll get blank page when i import 150 mb files, i cant even import 10 files and stil lget blank page :/

no the thign is no one deleted the category, but still the category just vanished, but i notice some user downloaded files inside that vanished category... so its still somewhere thats why i want u to check it to confirm it so please?

also ERROR no file found sometimes my user get this, but they are able to download after few more attempts ? a possible bug?

can you please visit my site and try importng and so you can confirm that u get blankpage aswell even if the upload size is on 600 mb ???

Removing the copyright isn't possible, as the "Based on ..." is necessary for the license. It's based on ecDownloads (created by Ron1n who quitted vB.org) and the ecDownloads license requires attribution ...

Q1: Try upping your PHP memory limit also.

Q2: Can you provide me the link of such a file in the disappeared category?

maidos 10-25-2007 02:03 PM

i raised the php memory to 500mb but i still failed to import 5 files

/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=1126

this is what i have in my htaccess

php_value upload_max_filesize 600M
php_value post_max_size 600M
php_value max_execution_time 600
php_value max_input_time 100

and can you please see about the issue error files not found, since it works fine after few attempts
there are 2 error showing up, error file down and error file not found, but like i said it works if ppl try it some more times, i think theres oissue with download delay aswell, if im at the download page and right click and go to new tabs, I opened a new page within the download time limit thing and it will telll me to slow down even if i ddidnt download anything

also regarding about the download delay it seems when one guest download the second guest ahve to wait x seconds because the first user downloaded already....

so if i have file striction will it be the same aswell, if one member download one file of 50 files the second member can only download 49 files left???

Smooth Adam 10-26-2007 11:08 AM

Just putting my support in for Version 6! Can't wait for the next version!

Also, how can I let users sort by Rating? Ratings over all the files and in a certain category.

Artes_Marciales 10-26-2007 11:29 AM

The most important for my in a nest version
is to be able to choose that you cut they can download files for groups.

I want the registered users to download files but not of all the categories,
the same thing with the invited users, I want them to download files of some categories.

I would love that detail with the permits for groups and categories.

Kind Regards!

CyberRanger 10-26-2007 06:32 PM

I'd like to extend my appreciation and thanks to RS_Jelle for all the work he's done with DownloadsII. Because of my real life time constraints and in recognition of Jelle's work, I've requested that vb.org make Jelle the "owner" of DownloadsII.

That process is now complete! He is the man! I'll continue in role of co-author, helping answer questions and code new features as time permits.

Thanks to everyone who has helped us build this product!

Black Tiger 10-26-2007 11:00 PM

Thanks Cyberranger for making Downloads II and developping it with RS_Jelle.

Indeed RS_Jelle does a great job and with this reply I wish to congratulate him with the ownership.
Great work guys, both of you!

Try uploading one of those files to AdminCP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Upload
Normally it should give a "No errors occurred while opening the uploaded file for reading." message if it works. If it doesn't work it's clearly not a DownloadsII problem, but a general PHP (or something else) configuration problem.

I can confirm the guest problem on your site, but I also tested it on my own testsite and it works fine :s
Any other people to confirm this problem?

I can confirm the category problem for that file, but again I can't find any problems on my own testsite. Although I can fix it on your site by creating the missing category manually inside your database, but then I need phpMyAdmin access or something similar.

There's a Files Sorting dropdown menu at the bottom of the category view. That's one of the options it contains.

You can control category access using the usergroup permissions. You can grant/deny access by listing the category id's and choosing the grant or deny option.

@All: version 5.0.6 is coming soon with some bugfixes.

Not in such a maintenance release :)
Multiple files per entry requires rewriting the database scheme pretty intensive.

Black Tiger 10-27-2007 04:44 PM

With this reply I would like to thank RS_Jelle for his quick and great help for fixing the problems when downloading with IE6!
It's the second time already, first time was great help with a vBA integration.
Do you have a paypal button somewhere for a small contribution?

It's strange, but when i try to change the page in the categoryies, it open the first page, where I was.

kafi 10-29-2007 02:48 PM

Hello guys, thanks for great MOD!!! and your hard work.

I am going to put search box on main downloads page (if possible by template modif.).

Shouldnt that be as default? Search is the core of each database aplication like this one, so why hide that on second page and frustrate users with too much clicking...
Just a thought :)

That's pretty strange indeed, we aren't aware of such an issue. Can you pm me your site url (and eventually a test account to access the downloads section if it's closed for guests) so I can check it out?

Just a thought :)

I already incorporated a pulldown search menu (vBulletin search type) on the downloads home for v6.

The main problem for v6 at the moment is the directory structure rewrite (with subdirs instead of one downloads directory), so I'm thinking about skipping that for a next version as it takes to much time. There's a lot of new code already finished, so I think it's better to get that released (for example a brand new admin panel, which is fully functional).

kafi 10-29-2007 03:36 PM

Thanks for headup :)

I personally would avoid with search pop-up. I have changed that also on my board, also vb.org is not using it as main search box :)
As I said, search is most essential feature on heavy data site or application...

Good luck with 6x version :)
====================

1 more request...
is it possible for you to integrate virus scanning like this one:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=161345

???

Thanks!!!

narutorasengan 10-29-2007 08:10 PM

thanks for the great mod!

i got one question though, how do i set it as a default to go "by file name" instead of going by latest upload?

and i don't mean the categories, i mean the files, thank you!

Everyone's got a different taste :D
But you can change such things pretty easily in the templates.

I already thought about such a thing as I know it from the Moodle e-learning CMS, but I don't think a lot of people have LibClamAV installed. Shared hosts probably don't want to install it as it takes some resources.

Open downloads.php
Find
PHP Code:

    if (!in_array($sortfield$sortfields))
    {

$sortfield 'date';
    }

Replace with
PHP Code:

    if (!in_array($sortfield$sortfields))
    {

$sortfield 'name';
    }

Hi, i've searched through the whole mod topic but I couldn't find what the answer for my question or maybe i just missed it somehow. I have been running for script for almost a month now and it's great at first but because all my members are able to download files at top speed all the time, it caused my server go down many times also my bandwidth increase so much which i'm not very happy with. Can you help me to fix this, how can i reduce the download speed limit so that when one of my member download the file, the server doesn't give out max speed instead only giving out the speed that i want to set. Please help, i really appreciate this.

I'm sorry, but limiting the download speed isn't possible at the moment. The only limits you can set are the download delay (overall and per usergroup) and a limit for the amount of downloads per day per usergroup. Finally there's also a maximum MB that a user can download/upload, but that's not so relevant.

Anyway, such an option is a good idea. Maybe a wait time would be also nice: "The download will start within two minutes".

Black Tiger 10-31-2007 04:25 PM

I guess an old bug is back, or did I forget to change it?
When you're in the "manage files" section and delete a file, you won't be put back in the manage file listing again, or in any case, when the screen refreshes, yo don't see any files anymore.
Happens with FF and also in IE so it doesn't seem a browser issue.

unitedbreaks 10-31-2007 04:45 PM

Awesome hack!! I love it.. Great job guys/gals!

A few questions concerning uploading..

1) Is there anyway to incorporate a upload progress indicator?

2) I see you're using POST functions to upload the files.. Can you provide FTP upload options along with POST in AdminCP? This will be useful for people wanting to upload large files like myself (>25MB without hurting the CPU and maxing POST PHP variable out.

Thanks for your hard work!!

This issue is already reported and will be fixed in v5.0.6 which is coming very soon :)

  1. Upload indicators using PHP are pretty difficult. It's easier using a Java form and that's one of the many ideas we have for future versions :)
  2. You can upload files to a folder on your FTP and use the Import tool in the AdminCP ;)

I apologize if I have somehow missed these answers (...and I probably have), but...
  • If I am hosting the actual files to be downloaded on another server can I still use this by linking to those files as though they were hosted locally?
  • Will this plugin automatically update the files listed for the users if more files are dumped onto the remote site? i.e. a remote directory is set for the 'e-book' downloads, and more e-books are added, will I have to go and add each new link individually any time there is an update to the remote site?
  • Is it relatively simple to add adsense code to the basic template of the downloads pages?

I appreciate your answers and time. This plugin looks very promising!

  1. You can't use directories on another server or outside the forums directory at the moment.
  2. Uploading a file to an FTP folder isn't enough to add it. You've got two methods: uploading it on the frontend of the software and give it manually a title, description, ... Importing files from an FTP folder can be done using the AdminCP, but if you upload new files, you need to run the import tool again for them each time. I don't think we will implement such an auto-sync feature as we focus on extra file data also (description, ...) and not just a "parent directory" with a vB look.
  3. DownloadsII is using templates for everything, so adding Google AdSense code is very easy.

We just released version 5.0.6, which fixes a small XSS security issue and includes bugfixes for all known bugs (including the comment counter problem). For update instructions, read the Readme-Install.txt.

DownloadsII 5.0.6 Changelog

Jelle
  • Fixed XSS security issue with the WYSIWYG-editor on the file edit page
  • More code cleanup
  • *Really* fixed the update counters function (rerun the Update Counters after the upgrade to fix it)
  • Fixed the double slash in image URLs (strrpos() and strlen() have a different count method)
  • Fixed empty pages after taking actions using the Manage Files feature
  • Added the name parameter to the Content-Type header sent with a download (downloading using IE6 corrupted some files without this in rare cases)

There's already a detailed downloads log in the AdminCP ;)
Adding that information to the frontend wouldn't be a good thing for privacy imo.

No, there aren't any template updates in this new version. If there are any template updates, they won't overwrite your template changes automatically. So you would need to revert them manually and redo your template changes, just like vBulletin template updates.

  1. Upload indicators using PHP are pretty difficult. It's easier using a Java form and that's one of the many ideas we have for future versions
    You can upload files to a folder on your FTP and use the Import tool in the AdminCP .

I meant using FTP_put()
http://us3.php.net/ftp

The reason for this is because my uploads are timing out considering my shared host has a limit of <= 2MB and users are trying to upload 25-120MB files.

You can't use directories on another server or outside the forums directory at the moment.
Are you sure? The question was:

If I am hosting the actual files to be downloaded on another server can I still use this by linking to those files as though they were hosted locally?
Couldn't it work like this:
1.) He makes a downloads directory on his local server where the forum is, like it should be.
2.) Now via the Add files option, one can upload files, or link to files. If you link to files you need the complete http://siteof.files.com/filenam.zip and the length of the archive.

So If done like this, he should be able to host the files on another server and link to them through downloads II.

Or am I missing something?

thanks for the update. In the future I would love to see an option that is a dropdown menu that allows you to either indicate the size in bytes, kilobytes or megabytes instead of bytes - converting mb's to bytes is a drag. Thanks again.

PHP has got an upload limit, that's probably the problem. It's a common issue :)
If you have full server access, you can edit your php.ini (PHP configuration file) and edit the size there manually. If you are on a shared server, you can put a .htaccess file in your forums directory (where you can find downloads.php) with the following content:
Code:

php_value upload_max_filesize 25M
php_value post_max_size 25M

Ofcourse you can change the 25MB to what you want. It overrides the php.ini setting.

That's indeed possible, but I think he means something different with:

So I think that's linking to them without revealing the download url (which can't be done with the actual link field)?

An argument against this is the fact that bytes are more accurate. And it's pretty easy to know the exact size of a file in Windows: just right click it and choose for properties. There you can see the size (don't look at the "size at disk", that's not the real one).

Hi, is it possible to create an extra text field for the upload name say like i got 3 chapters of manga and i'm only allow to upload one at a time and instead of writing the whole name in the name box "one_piece_01", I want to have 2 text fields for
Name: one_piece
Chapter: 01

it will combine those 2 text fields together (seperated by "_" or anything I want) to make it become "one_piece_01"

Also, I've tried the to put in my forums dir .htaccess with:
php_value upload_max_filesize 25M
php_value post_max_size 25M

but it doesn't work, it gave me the error "500" for the whole site, anywhere i go i got that error. If I delete it the problem is gone, any suggestion?
