Can we actually sell things in this shop, or is just a "points" thing.?

If by "things" you mean physical items for real cash then that's not what it was designed to do :(

The Pro version lets you define custom input fields for the "Custom Item" item type that you could technically use for RMT in conjunction with vBCredits II Deluxe, but it's a bit roundabout.

This is designed to let you sell stuff that affects the forum, like usergroup changes and forum permissions :)

I would love to have something where members could trade in points or credits in for physical items. Is this possible with this mod, or is there something out there that might do this even if it were a paid mod it would be worth it to me to have the ability to offer a reward for some of my more active members.

Is there a best-practice for adding the ability for users to purchase points with cash via paypal or another gateway? I've looked but didn't see anything. Can you point me in the right direction so I can decide how to go about modifying this?

You need vBCredits II Deluxe Pro and link vBShop and vBCredits currencies (configuring vBShop to use vBC's currency) to achieve that :)

If you mean coding wise, then you can look at vB's payments_gateway.php :)
