It actually *does* appear straight away, but in the wrong place...it appears at the top of the forum activity section.

Is it possible to make it so that the social forums don't appear on the index/forum page?

put them in a catagory that you have hidden imo have a link at the top "Group Forums"

That error means vBulletin does not know the (parent-)forum.
