Sometimes it is hard to weed through a large thread when you are looking for something in particular. My apologies. You explained it very well; however, I am not sure what is meant by, "Create the Phrase". I am sorry to bother again, but could you explain how or what to do so I can create the phrase? Should those items go in the vbookie.php somewhere?

Thanks once again...

lol, no need to apologize, sorry if I came across harsh...

as far as the phrase, no, its not created in the vbookie.php... you need to log into your ACP and on the left hand nav, go down to the Languages and Phrases... expand the group, Click on Phrase Manager, in the main pain window, click on add new phrase.. this will open up a form to create the new phrase...

Phrase Type: vBookie
Product: vBookie
Varname: vbookie_exceeded_max_bet
Text: You have exceeded the maximum amount of $1000 per bet.

Hi Again. I followed the instructions by replacing the text in vbookie.php and created the phrase as instructed... now when I place a bet I get this error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/.../forum/vbookie.php on line 968

I removed the complete link... but I imagine it is erroring on the text I replaced. I believe that would be line 968. Can someone help with the proper text replacement... or help please...

Ok, I have a question....

Where do I go to select witch usergroups can create events?

Thanks...

Be glad to....

But it is the SAME one that is in the download, except for the replacement you had me made... Also, I pulled it up in a php editor to see where the line was located that is erroring and it is way above the area you had me edit/replace.

I get this error when I have this set at 1000 and try to place a bet at 1200. I am not sure if any bet is erroing because there is no way to edit any bet that I am aware of... in cluding the odds of past bets. Admins really need this...

I have a member with two profiles and placed a bet for 20K on a football game... bit win or lose. The odds were 5/1... they are about to win over a million and I can't edit it or stop it unless I delete it... and that would ruin it for a bunch of others. Admins need more control.

weird, I just uploaded your file to my site and it works just fine.. limits the bet amount to 100 (since you set it at 100)....

WFZ 11-24-2007 06:38 PM

So can someone tell me exactly where to go to set what usergroups can post vBookie Events

Well, that is weird... and I didn't change it, it was set at 1000, not 100. The only other change that I done was the Create the Phrase, as you instructed.

Remember, I am using vbcredits... are you using that on your site? After I uploaded the file, I attempted to edit a past created football bet I set up weekes ago... and I got that same error. So I replaced that vbookie.php with the original and it allowed me to edit that bet. So it is something about that line and that file... and those settings with my site.

Incidently, I am not sure why but I have a few other issues with vbookie, but I can live with them... One of them is... I have to edit any bets that I setup in the past and check their settings. Something is changing the time and date of the settings... so I have to check it either the day before or right before the game. It happens sporadically, but more times than not. Also, if I set the bet to close at 1pm on a certain day, my program closes that whole morning... I just tell me members to enter your bets at least the day before, otherwise it is closed. It is like it doesn't care what the time is... just the day.

Again, I can live with those issues... I really need this bet limit corrected. Is there anything else you can help with this... I am using vb 3.6.8 and vbcredits 1.4RC1...

Man, have you even looked at the usergroups settings before posting? It is clearly stated in the each usergroup. Pull up the usergroup you want to allow and scroll down to the "vbookie event permissions". Under that... "Can post vbookie events". Set that to yes.

I am a little confused... why or what is the issue that you can't install it?

I'd be willing to help you install it (I see you are using vb 3.6.8), but wouldn't support it after that. I think if you are having issues installing it, you will have issues setting bets up and control them. I don't have time for that... maybe someone else has that time.

May I suggest to follow the instructions for installation... make the proper edits for vb.3.6.8. and create a forum that only the admin can access for your bets. Then setup an event by posting in that forum, select vbookie in the bottom menu.. and presto! I added an item in the navbar for everyone to access... so they can see bet results and stats...

IS there a reason in particular that the vBookie permisions in the usergroups, do not seem to matter? We have regular members posting events and resolving them in cases where they really shouldn't be. We've made it so they can not create new ones or edit others, but for wahtever reason those premissions are bypassed and anybody even a brand new user can create a new vBookie.

Any idea? Version of vBookie is 1.0.7. vB being 3.6.8

Any help with this? Much apperchiated.

Chief108 11-27-2007 03:50 PM

Sorry Dude.... The last thing I was helping you with worked on my site. I'm not sure what else to say/check. Maybe the individual that wrote it can provide some insite on what it might be conflicting with.

This is one of my favorite hacks and I WISH the author would either release the code to let other developers take over and expand it/re-write it or start getting involved in it again and expand on it himself.... I don't see either happening however.

Fill in the blanks with table prefix, amount and primary usergroup.

All you needed to do was read back 3 pages.. I answered this twice just a few posts back... here it is again.

For Pauls Part.....

Log into your Admin Control Panel.

Scroll down the left hand nav menu until you get to the Plugins & Products Area.... expand it.. click on Plugin Manager.

This will then bring up all the plugins that you have installed within vbulletin...

Scroll down the list and Look for the Product : vBookie area... this area will contain all the plugins associated with vbookie....

Find the specific plugin that needs to be modified (vBookie: Redirect to vbookie.php when posting new Event) and then click on [edit]

This will open the plugin so that you can replace the block of code with the block that Paul had in his post...

Hit save and you are good to go

Anyone know how you can change the description, as in when it says, "This bet is open", after setting it up, you can modify it. Ive been looking through the files and cant seem to find any text descriptions for each section.

Its probably a PHRASE... check the phrases and see if you can find it in there.

Thats because you didn't rebuild your bit fields, so its not saving the settings.

<rant>
Dang I wish one of the vborg staff members would step up to the plate and add this simple step to the install instructions sos it doesn't have to be answered over and over and over and over.. its like the dang energizer bunny question/answer.. it just keeps going and going and going...

thanks for all the help bud

Polish Guy 12-10-2007 03:16 AM

Ok - installed on 3.6.4.

Everything works great, got everything worked out - except I can't get my users vCash to display in their postbit legacy.

I read to page 74 and gave up :)

Other than that - everything is butter. Great mod.

EDIT: Is there anyway for me to void a bet if there's a stupid user who clicks the wrong box to settle a bet?

SBlueman 12-10-2007 03:23 AM

My suggestion? Use another cash system like iCash. Then use that to display in their postbits and for vBulletin to use. I am on 3.6.8 and it's working just fine for me.

Polish Guy 12-10-2007 03:30 AM

what's the difference? And where would I get the hack for iCash?

EDIT: Nevermind - solved my own problem. I didn't see that I had to edit the Postbit and the postbit_legacy templates, just thought I had to edit the latter.

Woot!

If anyone needs help with the mod - IM me at on AIM at Polish Warlord.

Polish Guy 12-10-2007 05:36 PM

Aight - once again, awesome hack, but in further modding it to work today, I came across a few users with concerns about the legal issue of it.

I don't not believe this is considered real gambling if vCash is used (or any other form of numerical worthless currency) so that means that here in the United States, any one, regardless of age, can participate, they don't have to be 18 or over - right?

I know that's more of a legal question than a question concerning this mod, but I figured I'd present it here.

Well, think of the kid game monopoly... Do you think folks are taking anyone to court about that? lol.

I really really really NEED a way to limit the bets without a bunch of edits that screw up my system... Anyone help?

ezurick 12-13-2007 11:30 PM

- I really really need a way to limit the bets without edits...

- I am having issues with changing the bets settings (date, time, GMT). I have to change them daily back to what they are suppose to be. Something is changing them and there are many times I change them back and go back into the edit and it refuses to save the settings I change it to. Please fix this...

- Admin must be able to change bets... There currently is no way.

abmm 12-14-2007 02:27 PM

Im having a problem with the correct user amount (vCash) being displayed in their postbit. It seems as if it is displaying the default (500) for everyone regardless of what their actual earning is at.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

That's what I have and it works fine for me Frankie.

This is the same code I have in the postbit/legacy and for some reason
everyone is still displaying the default amount of 500 vCash.

SCRATCH THAT! :D I was able to figure it out. Thanks guys.
