Sorry, this product is no fully driven global advertising management.

Although it may become one, it will need a consistent number (say about 100 x $200) of paying customers in order to allow me to hire a person who could also help in all tasks which may arise with such. However I believe, nobody will pay such an amount on a regular basis, unless it would be a power tool like there are already many in the wild web ... :)

Please don't understand me wrong, but evolving this product at the current state of stability and comfort has taken many years and every line of code was thought thoroughly in order to make it work from vBulletin's stone age until now on all systems with no flaw. Porting it to a new level would cost many more years and I'm pretty not sure if all this efford will then be paid off :)

I see

I'm willing to pay you for a separate simple (and more manual) page that uses some of the vb functions to make a simple page listing the vendors. Are you interested? I can PM you my ideas if you are.

jjdurrant 12-26-2011 07:02 PM

Maybe I missed it, but how do I just place the ads in header and footer like ad manager does?

We can try, but I'm terribly overrun by work and any kind of it may take weeks or months to complete. I'm unable to tell when I have time to put hands on :)

I have some enhancements scheduled by weeks now and had no chance even to plan things for just one more option and a few lines of code. Brainstorming and discussing however takes much less time ...

Yeah :)

The help file shows how to put a banner below the navbar. If you search this thread for header2, you get other hints of how to use the logo banner space. In a very similar manner they apply also to the footer.

It does look like a complicated thing to implement in any kind of automatic way - actually adding and subtracting vendors as the timer expires.

All the content in the sponsor block would have to be done manually anyway - like the address and the vetted optional map button. Also in the link you gave it looks like they've set up accounts for each vendor and since it seems unlikely each vendor really has a membership on the forum, I imagine those are just dummy accounts set up manually that forward messages to an email.

Anyway, we did this long ago with "sponsors" pages in our CMS. We could add or subtract pages easily, but we tend to just leave them there. Also nice for sponsors without their own links.

Jakub03 12-31-2011 03:41 AM

I installed the mod but which position do i choose to make it appear in the global header and footer?

macrocamaleon 12-31-2011 10:11 PM

Working in 4.1.9

Thanks for share...

I see this as the best solution and no work for me :)

Eventually this CMS section is ordered alphabetically and makes a much nicer list than any other solution.

You normally will choose a single banner position, but make changes to your templates where you wish to show them. In other words, this is no code injection plugin :)

Before you go messing around with templates, try using the standard Advertising ad locations. AdminCP>Advertising>Add new ad

hi...

may i know how to make the banner show up inside the thread?

and how to define the width and height of the image size? just like the option width / height for flash object.

i think if the option "Flash Banner" unchecked, the width / height should be use for the image.

thanks

Gripi 01-02-2012 05:56 PM

may i know how the impression counter works?

if one user with 1 address load the banner, so 1 impression right? if the user reload the page again within 15 second or 15 minutes, the impression should be 1 or 2?

The impression counter counts how many times it was shown. There is no discriminator. Each view = +1

Images have no width and height values. If you need them anyway, you may use the flash wrapper, which also loads standard images.

Do you have the changes implemented or fixed in today's update?

Thanks

EMail Notifications option description: Added direct links to the email phrases for quick changes. Changed files: rbs_mail_cron.php.

Just tried that idea and it doesn't work. The banners disappear.

I'm trying to get the images to have a width and height value for page speed and y-slow scoring...

Please see point 2.3.4 for the updates. Also, the update mail states: "This update adds some features for scheduling expiring banner emails only."

Essentially I implemented the 1 month ago (or so) request to allow an easy change to the email settings for expiration notifications.

All other requests are waiting for me having more time :)

Is there any other way of including the image size to the banners?

I haven't been following, but all my banners are the exact size I make them. Aren't yours?

Yes... 468x60 but there is no width and height in the <IMG> tag...

HTML Code:

<img src="http://forumimages.mopar1973man.com/ad-banners/rockauto.jpg" border="0" alt="RockAuto" /></a>
So how do I add the width and height to the IMG tags?

Because I would like to improve my Y-Slow scores more...

Who cares. Don't obsess over the little things. They'll be served from the cache anyway if you have a cdn (e.g. Cloudflare).

Am i able to add in a static banner on a chosen page? Sponsored by a company so only want their banner up on that part of the forum.
I have added a banner to the standard advertising part of VB4 with the HTML of
HTML Code:

<div align="center"><!--vbbanners:6--></div>
.
I would like it to display only banner number 6 on that part of the forum. So for it to stop rotating untill they go to another part of the forum.

It doesnt seem to stop though...

singh9211 01-09-2012 07:07 AM

just installed it, really nice mod, working like a charm..........

I have added this feature request to the wish list. At the next review I'll add width and height to the IMG tag, if the given values are > 0.

Beyond standard places for vB4, you need also to select a forum section for the single banner.

The locations are not banner numbers. The banner locations are places where you want to rotate one or more banners. In most configurations you will use only location 0 for all imaginable rotating advertising over and over again, and just fill the database with banners at location 0 with filters, such as forum sections, user groups, date and time, or no filters at all.

Many thanks for your reply.
So with your system, Is there a way to have it normally rolling but when a user gets to a certain part of the forum, Only the 1 banner is shown, Not rotating?

The system itself is always rotating, but if you have only one banner for a single situation, only one banner is rotated, thus appears to be static.

In a typical situation you'll have for example a banner on the right of the logo, shown to all visitors, and section specific banners show below the menues. For this scenario you would use location 0 for the header and location 1 for ad_below_navbar. Location 0 banners are many and have no section specific restrictions, while location 1 banners have the sections selected where they may appear. Thus, all sections which have a location 1 banner will show one, the others not, while in the header always be a banner no matter what (unless there is no one in the database).

Ciao Giovanni!

I'm currently running version 2.2.6. Can I safely upgrade without losing my customer's banners?
Is there anything special I need to know to perform a safe upgrade?

Thanks!!

viper357 01-11-2012 01:05 PM

Has anybody tried the new "Send Mail Before" option? I've tried various different number of days, run the cron manually but I don't get any results? Has anyone tested it on vb 3.8? Thanks.

You should be able to do so ... however, you may make a backup/copy of the tables beginning with rbs_ or all your forum database (which is always a good idea anyways).

Do you have email addresses in the banners and do they have still to be sent? Mailing works just only once for each banner unless you reset the mailing state with the option at the bottom.

Click tracking does not work with scripts unless they are specifically crafted. The help file and the option itself says:

Click Tracking: If this option is enabled, a script counts the number of clicks on standard images. This option has no effect on scripts.

You better get used to making regular db backups. I use a script that saves mine daily and another script to download it to my local hard drive. Monthly I do complete site backups using cpanel and download those locally also.

Realistically, you aren't going to want to restore old tables after an upgrade, which is the harder part compared to backing them up.

Thanks Videx. I have an automated script running on my server that makes daily database backups for me. My hosting company help me set it up. So far I've not had a failure so I've never needed to do a restore. So I assume those tables are in my backup. I thought maybe it'd be easier to back up just the banner tables in case something goes wrong with my upgrade. Sadly, I have little knowledge of database related things. :(
