Very Very Very impressive may i say,

got a small problem thou :ermm:

I have set up a news forum on my forum just so admins can load up stories to be viewed on vbindex now,

I have set the permissions so that only admins can see (on the forum)

IF a non-admin goes to vbindex he/she will see the story but since I have the "readmore" on when they click on it they then get

you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
because they are not permissioned on the forums :disappointed:

is there a way round this at all ?

Imprezer 05-31-2004 02:05 AM

ImportPassion 05-31-2004 03:20 AM

In the VBindex portion of the admincp - there is an option that lets you specificy how much of the news post will be shown... choose the option that lets them see the whole story.

Alternately... Try setting the parent forum as hidden but open in the admincp ... that should keep the 'news' subforum off the main page view but let your members see the full article.

Hope this helps in some way.

My question... Still up there... Please help...

Reeve of shinra 06-01-2004 01:21 AM

Hi Bee's... sorry, now that I think about it, I think you need to mess with the access masks.... You need to deny the parent forum but allow the child (news) forum.

D|ver 06-01-2004 10:11 AM

is it possible to show the thread ratings in the centerbox of the latest threads?

i tried to include the code from the showthread.php but without success

can anybody help?

RichieBoy67 06-01-2004 12:12 PM

I installed it last night--Everything looks fine exept this one error on the top of the page:

Warning: chdir(): No such file or directory (errno 2) in /home/talkandm/talkandmore-www/vbindex.php on line 144

I have this in my editor right now but I have no idea what I am supposed to do with it...

Rich

Great Hack by the way!!

Reeve of shinra 06-02-2004 12:54 AM

Can you edit out that quote in your post?

As for the error - check your absolute path in the vbiconfig file. You need to make sure you have the correct path entered. It should be the place you have the global.php file. Mine is under 'board', the default is 'forum' but you may it named something else.

PHP Code:

define('CHDIR_PATH''/home/nytalk/domains/nytalk.net/public_html/board');

Edit: your forum appears to be in your main directory which is cool but instead of the absolute path, try ../ or ./ instead. I'm not 100% sure about that.

Freezerator 06-03-2004 05:40 AM

Hi,

how can i change the color of links on the homepage? It seems he discards my style options that i have specified for my forums. Or am i overlooking an option?

r6xual 06-03-2004 02:02 PM

**clicks install**

Does anyone know why I am not able to access the vbindex options via the vbulletin admincp? I have to manually type in the vbioptions.php path to get to them?

**edit**

Come to think of it, i cant seem to find any where to edit any custom blocks either.

r6xual 06-04-2004 12:45 AM

Does anyone happen to know an answer to my above post??

Odoin 06-04-2004 01:10 AM

You have to add the link to the admin CP....

Quote:

This step is optional, but it makes it easier to edit the vBindex Options by adding a menu item for it.

Open admin/index.php (Where admin is your admin folder) and find:
PHP Code: construct_nav_option($vbphrase['vbulletin_options'], 'options.php?null=0', '<br />');

And add after:
PHP Code: construct_nav_option($vbphrase['vbindex_options'], 'vbioptions.php?', '<br />');

r6xual 06-04-2004 01:18 AM

Awesome, Thanks for the reply. I guess i missed that somewhere? Anyways, while we are at it, any idea on how to edit the custom boxes?? So i can get some boxes on the main page other than the default ones??

Odoin 06-04-2004 01:21 AM

There are pre made template for each box. Do a search for vbindex and it will come up with a template like "vbindex_customblock_1" edit this inside. Once you do this then you need to setup the vbindex config to display the block.

P.S Where in MN are you from? I am from Bloomington :).

r6xual 06-04-2004 01:24 AM

Where would i search for vbindex?? Im sorry i guess im lost.

BTW im from Rochester

Odoin 06-04-2004 01:28 AM

In the admin section... under Styles & Templates > Search in Templates... :)

r6xual 06-04-2004 01:39 AM

Gotcha, awesome. Cant thank you enough for helping me out. Now if i could just find something respectable to put in there. Wouldnt happen to have anything would you??

Odoin 06-04-2004 01:41 AM

What type of site? Google Ad Words are allways a good thing... Some link exchange or top site lists vote buttons?!

r6xual 06-04-2004 02:00 AM

Automotive site, i guess anything would be cool to add to the site. Lookin kinda bare right now. Ill take whatever i can get!!.

Odoin 06-04-2004 02:11 AM

Thanks for trying to help Diva but what we are looking for is the following: -

If you look at www.chetnet.co.uk/portal we want to keep the left and right columns, or maybe get rid of one of the columns, then look at www.chetnet.co.uk/portal/forum we want all the forums listed as you see them there, although in a more condensed version

I will try and make a photoshop pic of it if you may think this will help

Thanks

chet 06-06-2004 10:53 AM

Hi, if you look at This site you will see that they have side blocks on both sides and then all the forums listed down the centre, this is what we are looking to do on our site, can it be done at all.

Regards

Chet

ImportPassion 06-06-2004 11:01 AM

that has nothing really to do with this portal.

they are using their forum index as the sites main page and just added 2 columns.
look for a hack here that adds a left column to all forum pages then you can go off that.

ThaEbilSlaya 06-06-2004 09:03 PM

Hello im new to using vbulletin and i had already installed vbportal to run with my vbulletin but then i started looking at the vbindex and i want to use it instead but i have no clue how to uninstall the vbportal without it messing anyhting else up or lossing any data i already have on the forums if anyone could help me plz let me know.

Thank You

zephy 06-06-2004 09:40 PM

I do not want to change the main forums, just want to get the portal to show all forums down the centre, if someone says it can not be done that I will be happy with that, I will just look for another portal that will do it

Regards

Chet

With all respect chet, but this is not the intention of this hack. This hack is to pull out the latest information out of your forums and show them in an optical nice way to the end users.

What you are requesting is another column on the left and on the right side. This is something totally different.

This hack is not written for something like that. Your ForumHome templates are based on SQL queries which are done from your /forum/index.php. The vbindex.php does not have these queries to show all your forums.

And to be constructive at the end: The easiest would be for your to take your /forum/index.php and copy it into your webroot and call new templates ( which you have to create ) and in these templates add a new table which separates your site into 3 columns.

But if you need additional features like these one that are used in this hack then you have to add them manually to your new index.php ...

OR

use another hack. This hack will not be able to provide what you are looking for.

Hope this helps to make your decision.

Cheers,
