as far as all this controversy over who writes what, who wrote this and put this in that, i dont care....at all...whatever works, and does the job is what i care about

thanks for writing a great script :)

Littlebit 08-15-2003 12:30 PM

hey Tigga,
Well, I don't know what I did exactly, but it's fixed. I'll explain the steps I took, if you're curious, maybe you can see what the cause was if I tell you what I did .... hope things are going great for ya!

Does this work with VB3 beta 5?

no

tpearl5 08-16-2003 01:04 AM

If anyone needs some reassurance that this hack works better then vbPortal... look over this:
http://www.midibuddy.net/webalizer/w...ge_200308.html

I installed the night of the 12th. Look at the bandwidth per day. I have weather installed also!

Thanks for making me see the light Tigga ;)

Zachery 08-16-2003 01:33 AM

vbportal (from phpportals.com im assuming) is a postnuke addon :\

Cal Poly Forum 08-16-2003 01:47 AM

Alright!

I had no problem installing this hack. Gotta love it.
I've tried the vbhome lite and was very difficult to customize and edit.

Anyways, how do we customize the index page:

1) From the default, I want to Search Site on the top right (replacing stats).

Thanks.

Zachery 08-16-2003 07:36 PM

if i remember right there should be a template called index under myvbindex template, theres all the variables in there if you play around with the placement you should get it :)

if not lemme know

soccerclue 08-16-2003 10:16 PM

All right..I have changed the categoryfontcolor to tableheadtextcolor in several templates..but several others still I cannot find where the template is...can you please help me? Please have a look at http://www.asianguild.com The 'User CP', 'Active Users', 'Online Buddies', and 'calendar date' color is still wrong. Hope you can help me.

Zachery 08-17-2003 04:04 AM

i dont see anything wrong with the colors :\

Cal Poly Forum 08-17-2003 04:42 AM

In the index, how would I edit so that my main banner will be in the center and the "usercp, register, calendar, etc." buttons will be right under the banner?

Zachery 08-17-2003 04:59 AM

find your header template, copy it, and paste it into index_header

soccerclue 08-17-2003 07:00 AM

I used header instead of index_header..and I used footer instead of index_footer.

Cal Poly Forum 08-17-2003 07:03 AM

How can I shrink my index page (using myvBindex porta) width ?
Like how www.asianguild.com has.

Cal Poly Forum 08-17-2003 07:08 AM

Where exactly do I insert the header template codes into the index page? On the myvB index page, there is not <logo and buttons> code.

soccerclue 08-17-2003 10:07 AM

U just need to set your forum width in Style section

soccerclue 08-17-2003 10:09 AM

just change the $index_header and $index_footer variable to $header and $footer in 'index' in myvbindex templates.

soccerclue 08-17-2003 10:10 AM

Faranth..can u help me check my forum again? The color is still wrong. Some of them fixed,...some of them i dont know which template to fix..hope u can help me..

ok..if you can't find out the wrong place..one of them is the calendar date..instead of making it dark blue font..i want it white color..but i dont know which template it is.

soccerclue 08-17-2003 10:15 AM

OK..I think i understand why i can't change the color..because it depends on my link color of my forum...do you have any idea how can i change the color without following the link color because it does not fit with the background color.

soccerclue 08-17-2003 10:23 AM

All right I think I have fixed it..don't mind anymore..anyway..great hack..

CodeDawg - Simply change your News Forum ID in your Admin CP to something like...
XX OR forumid = YY OR forumid = ZZ
(Replace XX, YY, & ZZ with the forum id's)

This did not work for me, only the news from XX is showing up. What else can I try?

Zachery 08-17-2003 04:34 PM

lol

the reason i dont say to pull header and footer is some people may want their front page to look totaly differnt.

livewars 08-18-2003 09:32 PM

I recently installed this at: http://www.livewars.com/vbindex.php ... my problem is that the incorrect header/footer are loading (I setup everything correctly in the admin).. also when someone logs in from the main index, it returns the signed in user to the forums index.

Can you tell me how I can I fix these 2 issues?

P.S. - is there a way to add these boxes into an index.php HTML page?

thnx.

AmericanWoman 08-18-2003 10:27 PM

I could kill someone...

I've had an older version of this hack installed for almost a year, and it was working fantastic - but we had an accidental partial install of 2.3.2 (from 2.2.9 - long story - database has been updated, but only files governing registration have been changed), and now 2 things aren't working for this hack:

Poll images are not displaying (although poll thread title and vote button are) and, most importantly, user login isn't displaying (although if you're already logged in, your info shows fine).

Site's www.acuraworld.com - any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The board's heavily hacked, so trying to do a fresh install and reinstate everything I have will take much longer than just a few hours.

Help. :( Please.

AmericanWoman 08-19-2003 12:39 AM

nm - I'm an idiot, and I shouldn't be allowed to touch a computer.

1. open your template manager and copy your header template and paste it into your index_header template same with footer

2. check to make sure you changed the redirect

soccerclue 08-19-2003 02:38 AM

I wonder why the calendar in my homepage cannot have the different background color for today's date. I saw someone's homepage can have different background color. I did something wrong here?

Zachery 08-19-2003 02:41 AM

i belive it uses alt1 and alt 2 to display the calendar color, so, altho im not postive

Littlebit 08-19-2003 11:36 AM

I'm worried about Tigga...has anyone heard from him?

Zachery 08-19-2003 11:51 AM

Oh sure! I thought mine was an isolated case because I have some minor different modifications...
I redownloaded the mYvBindex.php and made sure I changed the full path for the chdir first...
Then I uploaded it over the old one.
I ended up with an error, but I think this has to do with my special modification....so I re-uploaded the old index.php and it set the news posts back to the first post showing.
I know it doesn't make much sense to me either.
I have to say though, I just noticed yesterday, that one of my older news posts has a reply post showing...fortunately it's old and not as big a deal.
Something is still a little out of wack with it.
I can't figure it out, but maybe what I did will help you with a temp fix too until Tigga gets back from his gig.

:)

Littlebit 08-19-2003 03:33 PM

oh, I saved my old one somewhere else first ...don't just upload over it (just in case)...my bad for not saying that clearly. :speechless:

CodeDawg 08-19-2003 03:49 PM

Bummer, didn't work for me

Zachery 08-19-2003 03:51 PM

thats an odd problem.... are you still running the same version of vb when you installed myvbindex?

CodeDawg 08-19-2003 04:43 PM

Yep, it is a new install of both on a new server. I looked at the code and can't find where it specifies which post from the thread to use.

Zachery 08-19-2003 04:46 PM

it should just grab the first post, i think vb2's version works by pulling / putting the first new post into a differnt table and then displaying it, because i remember, when i had some announcments in my announcement thread they didnt show up unless i reposted them

what do you mean by using alt1 and alt2..? is that set in Admin CP?

Zachery 08-19-2003 05:48 PM

yes.... under the sytle fonts colors and properties

CodeDawg 08-19-2003 09:06 PM

Hmmm...any idea what that table would be? I can't see it in the code. I am a PHP newbie so I may just be simply missing it, but I can't figure this out for the life of me.

Kinda need to get it fixed as it is messing up the current news items.
