I think you misunderstood, moderators do not get this permission by default. You have to explicitly enable it for your Moderators usergroup. If you don't turn on this permission, they can't change others usernames.

No that is exactly how I see it. For example if I give it to moderators then they have the capability to change everyones name to include admins, headadmin, etc. Otherwords, if I have 70k members, they could change all 70k names. That is way to much power to give anyone.

Then don't enable that feature for usergroups you do not trust with this power :)

Unfortunately it's not feasible to allow moderators to only change certain other groups' usernames, as that would introduce multiple layers of complexion.

Similar, vBulletin does not allow administrators with Can Administer Users to only modify users belonging to a specific usergroup.

We have just upgraded our forums to 4.2.2.

We have the latest version of username change installed, and we have re-installed it today (just in case), however we are getting the following error:

Warning: Declaration of vB_ProfileBlock_UsernameHistory::block_is_enabled( ) should be compatible with that of vB_ProfileBlock::block_is_enabled() in ..../dbtech/username_change/includes/class_profileblock.php on line 119

Please can you issue a fix or advise otherwise?

I've updated the .zip file with a fix for this issue, can you let me know if this resolves it for you? :)

The issue has been resolved, at least for me. We're no longer getting the error message on our forum.
