I've the same problem.
After importing, I create the usergroup, but it doesnt appear any 'miserable' setting. I tried to reconstruct languages but it doesnt work.

Jenkins 10-09-2005 09:28 PM

what do you mean "setting a group in the settings"? I created the User Group, I wouold assume there should be some way to associate the settings for the Miserable Users with the group, but didn't see a way to do that, nor did it say a way to do so in the instructions. I am however a fairly new user of Vbulletin, so It could be something that other users would consider an implied step not sure.

Jenkins 10-09-2005 09:35 PM

Yep I'm stupid.. I just found the "Miserable Users" option in the "VBulletin Options" and found out the group ID was wrong as well.

It was the same for me.
Sorry and thanks

Noted. I have edited the instructions in post one to make it clearer.

Will the following work for IP addresses and user agents?

PHP Code:

if (is_member_of($vbulletin->userinfo$vbulletin->options['muparm9'])||$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']=='192.168.0.1'||$_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']=='Some anonymizer'

Thanks.

Its a great plugin!
Thanks a lot

Will you add the miserable by IP address feature in the future?

There are no plans to do this atm, I'm not convinced of the benefit. The point of this is to affect a single user, not an ip address (that more than one user could be using).

somedevil 10-10-2005 07:30 PM

Thanks for this....works great!

somedevil installs

it is not unusual for one user to have 3-4 id's on our board, some even have more

the whole purpose of this exercise gets defeated if the member can see that only some of his id's are not working properly

very very true. I have three members with multiple nicks, even though it is against the rules. I let it slide because 1) they are funny and 2) they don't let people catch on.

I like the IP harrassment idea, though. One day I'm sure I'll get a character that's not as amusing as the rest. :D

Paul M 10-12-2005 01:49 AM

Hmm, I'll consider it when I have some free time. ATM I'm busy converting things to products, and adding phrases, not adding new functionality to things.

Rebecca217 10-13-2005 07:48 PM

This is hilarious! Thanks for sharing it! *clicks install*

Unexplained.tv 10-13-2005 07:55 PM

We have our forum opened to everybody, so it isnt necessary to be registered for posting. That's why it would be good to make miserable users by ip.
If you dont plan to add it on next releases, may you give a hint for doing it?
Thanks in advance!

Salazar 10-19-2005 09:55 AM

Heh, nice one Paul!

Installed.

darcyb 10-19-2005 10:52 AM

This is my favorite mod. I've got a genuine troll-stalker who's been flooding my forum with fake identities, attacking members and all kinds of stalking trolling goodness for more than 3 years. With MU, I can reciprocate the annoyances.

Our moderator's group uses this hack like a verb in sentences, "hey, so and so made a new account. Should I mizz it? Yes! Mizz the $%#!@%#$@. User is now mizzed."

Of course, once an account of his/hers is mizzed, we get the joy of then clicking delete in our inbox from the flood of email containing thinks like, "nya nya, your board is down. You see, you really are inferior to me and my web proxy and blah blah blah blah blah". Which isn't much different from the daily email recieved containing the hillarities of, "you'll never keep me out blah blah blah I know more than you blah blah blah I will sue you for defammation blah blah blah here's a photo of me with my sister blah blah blah you think you're so smart don't you blah blah blah I just read a post, isn't so and so and so and so stupid? Bet you didn't know I could still access the forum? That's how smart I am and how dumb you are blah blah blah".

3 years, going on 4 of this daily fun. Amazing what people will throw away their lives doing.

Salazar 10-21-2005 11:03 AM

Since I installed this hack I often get the following error via mail:

Quote:

mysql_connect() [<a href='http://www.php.net/function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: User myusername has already more than 'max_user_connections' active connections
/www/htdocs/myusername/includes/class_core.php on line 273

MySQL-Error :
Error-Nr. :
Date : Friday, October 21st 2005 @ 12:11:50 PM
Script : http://www.my-forum.net/member.php?u=XXX (it's always the User ID of my miserable user!)
Referrer : http://www.my-forum.net/login.php
IP-Adress : some.ip.add.ress
username :
classname : vb_database
Very strange... any idea?

Not really, but "User xxxx has already more than 'max_user_connections' active connections" is a mysql configuration error, you have exceeded your allowed connections to the database.

Evil Chris 10-25-2005 02:16 AM

sportsoutlaw 10-30-2005 08:28 PM

Installed - cant wait to make another constant spammers life miserable. :)

CrossBones 11-03-2005 07:56 PM

The funniest hack I have ever seen.

I can think a of a lot of people who should be members of that user-group.

Argyle 11-04-2005 08:50 AM

Much proppage to the author. I don't often get excited about things to do with my forums, but this one has me almost salivating in anticipation for when I do the 3.5.0 upgrade.

Booba 11-06-2005 05:18 AM

Hi,

Sorry if this is asked already but how hard would it be so that i can put multiple user groups into the miserable user groups list. i have a couple of levels of members using the promotions system and would like a miserable users group for each of those levels.

Thanks.

Boobs.

Dez_U 11-06-2005 08:13 AM

very nice little product, thanks :D

Try this ;

Put your forum into debug mode, then goto the Miserable User settings and choose to edit the "Usergroup id" setting. Change the validation from 'numeric' to 'free' and save. Take your forum out of debug mode. You should now be able to enter a comma seperated set of usergroup numbers which *may* work. I have not tested this.

Arios 11-07-2005 02:40 AM

Hmm I think I like this :devious: *clicks install*

Lurk 11-11-2005 09:07 PM

Nice plugin. :D Simply reading the details and features of it made me laugh. :D :D :D

Vincent@Opinity 11-11-2005 11:22 PM

This sounds like an awesome hack.. haven't used it yet though

Exernon 11-17-2005 10:43 AM

I have been ignoring this hack for so long, but I'm loving it right now!

Erox 11-17-2005 11:10 PM

OMG, this is too funny!
I made a usergroup on my site I call "Our Sh!t List" just to mildly torment them and discourage them from coming back. I just may install this for added torture!!!

I like how your mind works, Paul M!!!!

GuaRRand 11-18-2005 12:09 PM

I'd like to see the IP functionality as well. Most of my board is open to guest accounts so they will be indexed by the search engines. I have users coming over from a competing board mining, spying, etc and always cause me grief. I could ban their IP, but I'd rather just annoy them.
