wait. where is your downloads.php located? i just assumed it was located in yourdomain.com/forum/downloads.php.

if it is located as where I thought it was ^ then that means something in your apache config must be strange... there are two ways around this.

1) put your downloads file in your /forums/ directory
2) contact your host and tell them that your having a problem and tell them what the problem is

Have my downloads map chmod to 777, I have change the url to ./downloads/ but still the same.
Uploading is good, but downloading a get the error.

Here my downloads map chmod and my file dir.

Put the downloads directory under /forums/downloads and chages to this:

./downloads/ = upload url
./downloads/ = download url

All is working now!! Thanks for the help!!

NEW PROBLEM:

When I create categories, they apear on the main page but when I attempt to upload a file, the categories do not show up in the pulldown window on the upload file page.

For the record, i am using vbulletin 3.06

I uninstalled then reinstalled the script and everything seems to be working 100%. This is a great hack with a lot of potential.

Im missing User Group Permissions for uploads. Everyone can upload files, but i dont want that user can upload files too (only Mods and Admins).

Thats included in the hack. Search for usergroups.php in the installation txt and it will show you how to add them.

There are two permissions:

- manage (can do everything, approve/remove/etc)
- download (can upload and download)

You should let all users upload files, because even if a user uploads a file that you dont like it still has to be approved by someone with management permisisons before it is available to the public.

to drl2005: sorry, this cant be a problem with the hack. it works for everyone else... try using it on a non-subdomain and see if that works.

There is no limit for User too.

Thats because your supposed to be accessing downloadadmin.php?do=category, not catagory. If you search in index.php and change catagory to category, it will work fine.

The majority of the people are, but it seems a lot of people are having trouble setting it up. Once it has been set up, they seem to have no problems with it.

You can change whether users can upload files via the following:

search in dl_add.php for CANDOWNLOADFILES, and change every instance of CANDOWNLOADFILES to CANUPLOADFILES. Then go to dl_panel.php and search for do=add. There will be two instances, because there are two different times that the navigation bar is constructed. You want to remove it from the one that deals with users, and keep it in the one that deals with managers.

IDEA FOR THIS HACK:
Instead of just uploading files, is it possible to download from a link instead?

If you want to post files with links to downloads, you want this hack/mod. It does a good job of what you want. :)

I had made my own thing like this because nobody had one, but with the proposed updates (multiple screenshots is what I'm looking for, maybe along with multiple "versions" of files for a single entry), yours will be better than what I have right now and I'll be sure to switch to this system. Right now I use attachments to display multiple screenshots, but this creates a huge reliance on the database.

I mean, i will upload files with any extension (rar,zip,pdf) via ftp to a directory (name of category/Subcategory) and the script shows the files.

it seems that if a user know the direct url of the file eg. www.domain.com/download/files.zip, they can download. So not much point implement usergroup restriction since anyone can download if they know the url.

But you can chance the dir name in something like "download_48464_awes".
This nobody can know. :)

will a link feature be added coz i have some larger files already uploaded to my site and its easy to use a link feature rather then the only option of uploading them all again

Yes same request here, I also have multiple files that already upload in my back up server and I dont feel like to upload all these file again in webserver anymore. It will be koo if we have a link feature added.

See, i had vbdownload area installed....its not in development anymore so i uninstalled (and deleted all files) and then installed this one. But its still brining me to that page for some reason. I deleted the downloads.php file and uploaded this one but i still get that page

Yes, they could. But how would they know that file name? Also, you can create a blank index page with an htaccess file that controls linking/direct access to files. I didnt want to , and will not use the database to store files.

No, I am affraid not. It is possible, but not in this hack. I would have to redesign the entire thing.

You dont need to change the dir name, that was what my download timestamp was for... ill fix that in the next release.

have you installed the new templates? if he had a template with a similar name, then you would see his template and not mine.

our category views look nothing alike, so i dont see why you would see his... very odd. try deleting all templates and doing a reinstall of all mysql and templates.

Looks to be a nice hack. Just did the full install. However. It seems I am missing all the phrases. I checked the install file and it didnt insert any phrases.
Someone got a list of phrases that need to be done so i can add them?

The hack is great, the main thing it is missing is linked downloads. I have well over 300 downloads that I offered on my site, some over 300 megs. All of these files would be every difficult to upload, I need to somehow link them.
