I got to have it!

damonh 07-17-2005 11:37 PM

um. dumb newbie question....
Will this work with 3.0.7? If not, how do I get 3.5? Thanks

Marco van Herwaarden 07-18-2005 03:29 AM

You will find the vB version for which a hack is made in the top of this thread. This one is made for 3.0.7, so yes it will work.

To get 3.5 simply login to your vbulletin.com member area and download it.

question: is it possible to keep the forum so that it displays regular forum home with only the addition of side bars?

iwan_ccie 07-25-2005 06:27 PM

Hi,

when I try to load this page cmps_index.php I get the following error:

PHP Code:

"Warning: chdir() [function.chdir]: No such file or directory (errno 2) in c:\wamp\www\cpf\cmps_index.php on line 21"

Does somebody know what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Off my head becuase I haven't used CMS for a while, but it looks as though you have put the wrong path to you server in the config.file

Usually it should looks something like this "/home/you server password goes here/public_html/forum"

With "forum" being the name of your forums folder that contains your vbulletin files. Or whatever you called it. The "password" bit in the path. Is the password you use to log-on to your server host Admin CP were you create your database etc.

But I'm just guessing becuase the error mentions your cmps_index.php file. And not your cms config file

Yes, this should be possible. Although I'm not sure exactly how.

DaFire 08-02-2005 07:45 AM

there is a howto in the member area of vbadvanced how to add side bars to the forum.

Is there a version of this that will work with VB 3.0.8?

The current versions of CMPS will work with all of the vB 3.0.x series so you're fine using it with 3.0.8 (check over on vBadvanced.com for vB 3.5.x).

Prisoner 08-08-2005 01:44 PM

Thank you. I just converted from IPB and miss the portal.

Wait, does 1.0.1 work with 3.0.8 or does 2.0, or do both versions work with 3.0.8

Prisoner 08-09-2005 09:36 AM

1.01 worked fine with my 3.0.8.

Both versions will work fine with 3.0.8 but using 2.0 is recommended because of all of the new features it has.

I think 1.01 is the CMS were you add custom pages using HTML from your admin menu isn't it? More like a adding pages and menu entries for it. I've used that alongside the more fully blown CMPS and they work fine together. The 1.01 version is not really a portal. It's just a content cms if I'm right that has a menu structure on the left hand side to access the diffderent cms pages you create. Unlike the CMPS that acts as a main portal using blocks etc

DigitalDevil 08-09-2005 05:22 PM

Where can I get support for this?

I thought moving from phpBB to vBulletin would make adding mods easier but its just as complicated and hard, after spending ages installing this mod nothing happens...I just get sent to my forums like usual.......

Do you mean you are getting sent to your forum when you click the link in your footer? You have edited the link incorrectly in your admin settings that links to your portal page. For example if your portal file is called portal.php and it's loctated in your forums folder. Just enter the full URL leading to it in the homepage box in your admin cp

vbulletin options -> Site Name/URL/ Contact Details ->

Then in the URL Box enter the address that leads to were you want the link in the footer to point to on your forum

Have you installed a portal like vBindex or vBadvanced?

Because vBulletin doesn't come with one already pre-installed. :nervous:

Yes I've just installed the one at the front of this thread, have had some support from its website now so I've got it working (had to rename a few files and change something in the ACP). But thanks for your replys anyway!

Alright, I installed damn portal, and when I go to install file, it shows me AdminCP login, I log in, and page is blank! Everything expect that page, and if I go manually to AdminCP, is blank!
when I go to dir where were my forums, blank, when I go to suppose main portal page... well take a look at this:
http://dead-eternity.net/cmps_index.php

I suck at vB, and portal installation. I can install damn forums but whenever I try to instal Portals and crap, I always screw up. I try to follow everything step by step, and I always screw up. Can somebody help me out?

MRGTB 08-09-2005 09:01 PM

The best thing to do is upload the cmp_index.php to your forums folder. That way you will not have as many broken image links on your portal page, also if you make your board private the link from the portal page will take you to the correct login login page without errors like it does if placed in your root directory.

Did you include the server path in your cmp_index file like it asked you to enter. Just follow the instuctions step by stem slow. But upload both the cms_config and the cms_index file to your forums folder instead. And just use a index file in your root folder created to point to the either the portal file or the forum file using this code.

Code:

<META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh"
      CONTENT="0; URL=http://www.yourwebsite.com/forum/index.php">

Yes, it states that in the instructions. :)

MRGTB 09-01-2005 01:36 AM

OK thanks, I have another question if you can help me out.

How exactly do you add content to the default center modual called "Custom Page Content". Can you tell me in simple terms because after 30 mintues messing around I don't have a clue how to add content to it like my google adsence banner so it appears there on the portal page above the latest news :ermm:

TheMoose 09-01-2005 10:19 PM

Hey,

How Do i get the Messages in the Middle. Yes I know how to center them, but how do i get the acutal thread in there. http://www.ogstatus.com/forum/cmps_index.php Not my site, btw.

jaks 09-05-2005 04:06 PM

Is is just just me or has vbadvanced.com been down for 12 hours?

I have a major problem since upgrading to the latest version with my News and Most Recent post modules. If I have them active when I include VBa in my forums the forums are empty. you can't see and forums within the forums. No other modules do not cause that problem.

There are a few people with this same problem on Vbadvanced.

Any help would be great.
Jaks

MRGTB 09-05-2005 04:10 PM

They have been down since about 3am UK Time yesterday.

ADM 09-05-2005 04:24 PM

Yeah I've got the same problem.. I hope it goes up quickly.

jaks 09-05-2005 04:24 PM

Thanks for the response bud. Kinda glad it's not just me but I hope everything is ok. :surprised:

By the way custom page content is what is normally used as the forums when you include VBa. It must be enabled if you are planning to add any modules to forums pages.

For Google adsense you should add the code to the bottom of the navbar template. That will give you ads on every page including the portal. If you want to add google to a module I believe you would need the standard template for a module and include the code where it says "add content here".
I use the first answer I gave. You can see it here http://www.askhow.net

If you need more help just let me know. The problem I'm having is a strange one but i have been running Vba for a while now.

Do NOT add Google Adsence to either the Header or Footer. If you read Google Adsence AUP they say you are not allowed to display there banner on pages such as Registration Pages etc. By adding the adsence to your footer it will be displayed on the registration pages and other pages that google say in there AUP you are not allowed to do and will breach there rules. Thats why I removed mine from the footer and used a hack instead to just display it after the last thread on the forum, and also just on the portal page.

Go read there AUP small print and you will see what I mean. You don't want to make a bit off money from there banner, only for them to say you are in breach of there AUP by having dispklayed on a registration page and other pages that breach there adsence rules.

Here is the hack I used and then put the banner in the box: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123281

jaks 09-05-2005 04:48 PM

Well if you want to try to register on my site you will see the google ads are replaced on the reg page with a dhtml message so I think I'm alright there. You can use if statements to exclude the pages that will not comply with the AUP. Not a big issue.

Jaks

MRGTB 09-05-2005 04:52 PM

You should really read there AUP, becuase I'm not sure if the same went for members list pages, I do know there were other pages that putting the banner in the footer breached there agreement.

The footer is the best place to use it, but after reading there rules. I decided not to risk it, even though I see many other boards still doing it that way. Like I say better to read there AUP so you can see what exactly they don't allow. I only skipped through it, but read enough to decide in removing it from the footer.

To be honest the footer is kind of a bad place I think anyway. People tend to ignore banners in footers and headers. There too used to them being there on most sites. Take a look at a thread on my site and see how the banner is always displayed after the last post. You have a much better chance of it being clicked there as the thread is read.

jaks 09-05-2005 05:10 PM

Maybe this would be a good topic to start. I also use adsense at the end of the first post and it seems to be doing very well. With some tweaking to the Vb code the ads are definitely content related now. I guess the best thing to do is to contact them. They have already been to my site about 7 months ago because one of my over eagar moderators was asking people to click on the ads. That is a huge violation. They were very helpful pointing out all violations, gave me time to fix those issues and being under the nav was not one they pointed out. I don't think they are out to screw you, they want to make money like everyone else.

Thanks for the heads up though.
Jaks

jaks 09-05-2005 09:07 PM

I'm going to start a new topic for this subject since it one that should be discussed further.
