an update for y'all:)
i have completed the highlight system so when you search and click to go view the entry it will highlight all the other words in an entry just like vb's regular search engine;) i am also in the process of completeing the feature like vb's that will show how many people are viewing a journal just like vb displays how many people are viewing a forum. I still have some more work to get done but soon i hope for a beta release ^_^ |
yay - count me in.
this may be an important update to some of u but i have successfully completed the journal rating system and i am working on the entry rating system. i have designed it so guests can not rate/vote on journals since it would cause a repeat of 0 in the array thus denying a guest after the first vote by another guest. I am sry if this causes any kind of inconvience but i find using a serialized array in keeping track of voting is the best and most efficent way:)
i was wondering if anyone really wanted to be able to rate an actual journal entry, anyone?
I don't see any reason why not if ratings are switched on for the main threads. Perhaps you could link the 2 together - if it's enabled for the board, enable it for vbj (or perhaps have a separate option to switch it on/off).
on my side, i don't see why so much features...
if i write my personal journal, i don't see why other friends would even rate my comments... read them is already a lot... rating, commenting on personal entries, part of my life... strange behavior... anyway... the more you add, the more users you will have. |
well i kind of thought about and i thought it is very silly to rate a journal entry but i just want to make sure that no one would mind it not being included.
Perhaps it could go on a list of things to consider for a future version (that is of course if you're still sane after doing this version!)
There will be people who use your hack for things it's hard to imagine. For example, a journal hack would be perfect for a "writers" forum ... and "journal" entries become short stories or poems users post for the purpose of comments and ratings from others. Or a business site might use it as a means for their managers to relay their thoughts to their employees. They may want comments but no ratings ... etc. etc.
So, IMHO, the more features the better for the future of the hack ... however, the features should ideally remain "options" ... at least for the admin to choose as to whether they fit his type of board. Having said that, I have witnessed how once a hack is posted, it begins to evolve as more people give you feedback and suggestions. And some of those people (unlike me) can actually help code their "good ideas". Again, IMHO, people are just anxious to have a rock-solid basis from you and your support in helping them implement a few "bells and whistles" as the hack grows and grows. |
yeah i guess i will leave it out for the original release and if enough of feedback and demand comes for it i will implement it back in futre versions.
Talk about interest in a hack! ... This thread is approaching 4,000 views (and only 3,000 of those were me). Thanks again, AN-net.
i am getting closer to completing the listed features for the journal's original release and as of now i am fully updating the file and the templates with usergroup permissions:)
i hope to be done soon:D |
this is going to be so cool *drools*
I don't think rating a journal entry is that important ... since it really makes it an article system instead; and there are plenty of those already out there.

I am so excited!!! I can't wait to see this hack released!
What does an individual journal look like? |
Seems you definitely have a Hack of the Month on this one.
