Ok, product installed and my second domain is setup. Trying to configure this now... I have to admit it is a bit daunting.

sticky 12-07-2010 11:41 PM

Hmm, just getting a blank page on both? Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Create extra domain aliases for that domain called www.forum2.com, www.forum3.com etc. Cerberus takes care of redirecting the user to the right domain URL.

I have my second domain as a parked domain, is this correct?

Wondering if it should be setup as an addon domain?

sticky 12-08-2010 05:04 AM

Ok, I have gotten this to work on both domains but whatever style id I try it shows up broken. Anyone else encounter this?

By broken style this is what I mean, is it a conflict with another mod causing it?

BirdOPrey5 12-08-2010 12:18 PM

It looks like no CSS is loading in that "broken" style.

It is a parent style so I know I am doing that correctly but what could it be that is causing CSS to not load?

I'm on 4.0.2 btw.

do you have "Store CSS Stylesheets as Files" as no?

Tested it with it set to "no" still the same problem.

Any idea what else it could be?

sticky 12-09-2010 02:47 AM

Anybody? Anyone think if I upgrade to a newer version that might do the trick?

BirdOPrey5 12-09-2010 12:01 PM

It wouldn't hurt... I got it running on 4.0.8 with 2 different styles (on my test install)... the other option would be to disable every other mod besides Cerberus and see if it works.

I'll disable mods first and if that doesn't work then I will upgrade.

Thanks.

onehost 12-10-2010 05:45 AM

I am a little confused, so what is the big deal about this mod...for what purpose
would anyone need a forum running on multiple domains? I just do not
see a legit reason why you would need a forum on more then one domain....

maybe someone can explain better....

BirdOPrey5 12-10-2010 04:58 PM

3 Reasons
1) Lets say you have an established forum with a bunch of members and you want to start a new forum wouldn't it be nice to tell everyone they can visit and are already registered members?

2) Say you have related forums, say a music forum, one for 80's music and another for 90's music- you can now give each a separate identity but share users and some forums between both sites.

3) From an admin standpoint it's only 1 install to maintain and backup to cover all your sites.

Damn bro, seen you are good can you please help me get mine to work, I have the sub-domain already made and the categories in the forum I want to add in the second forum. All I need is the code be implemented correctly to get it to work since I have already install the mod. Thanks bro i will appreciate :)

In my case I was really after #3 on your list, of reducing the number of 'small' sites I had when instead I could upgrade them all at one shot by using a shared back-end but with the plus side of sharing some things between them, like v3 Arcade.

Example: CinVin & Lower Pottsgrove

(Forget the content of the sites since I really am using them at this point for testing more than anything. :p) They look like two totally independent sites (including the vBa CMPS "Home" page thanks to some other code I am working on) but clicking on the Arcade link in the navbar on both sites shows the same games, same top scorers, etcetera. There are still some little things to be done, but for the most part as long as users are aware that the sites are shared, then it looks like it will work fine for what I had in mind.

The kicker is that if you want to merge existing sites together then you have to really consider the fact that all of your URLs for the merged-in site will be lost. Not a problem for small sites or new sites but is not something I will consider (for example, I won't be merging Cool Sci-Fi into CinVin because of the URL issue). The other item to consider is sitemaps... currently there is no support for having the vB Sitemap be generated with the correct domains for the add-on sites.

In short, for me, new sites going forward will be virtual sites off of the main CinVin database but I won't be merging any of my other existing sites into it.

tpgsr 12-10-2010 08:36 PM

I must say that I have been doing this in a custom way since we upgraded to vb4... see Http://www.nyspeed.com/forum.php

This is pretty exciting, as it will allow my to not have to rewrite mods and cookies and all code to make things happen. I will be setting this up on a testing server this weekend to see how it goes. I will report back with my results.

PS I love the name, very clever.

I see you've mistaken me for someone who knows what they are doing...

Two of my domains are juot.net and juot.co

Here is the code I use that's working:

Code:

[juot.net]
bbtitle=JUOT.net NET
bburl=www.juot.net/jutest4
homeurl=www.juot.net
catids=1
styleid=1
cookiedomain=juot.net
facebookappid=222222222
facebooksecret=222222222

[juot.co]
bbtitle=JUOT.co CO
bburl=www.juot.co/jutest4
homeurl=www.juot.co
catids=8
styleid=2
cookiedomain=juot.co
facebookappid=2222252222
facebooksecret=2222252222

Ignore the facebook numbers, I don't use it.

For those interested, the fix would be to modify your "** Load Config **" plugin and look for...
Code:

case 'bbtitle':
    if($ib_in_matching_host) {
          $vbulletin->options['bbtitle'] = $ib_the_spec[1];
    }
    break;

... and then below it add:
Code:

case 'hometitle':
    if($ib_in_matching_host) {
          $vbulletin->options['hometitle'] = $ib_the_spec[1];
    }
    break;

Seeing now the relationship between the configuration options in the ACP and how easy it is to add new ones, now I'm wondering what other little tweaks could be done. :D

I have to see yet what I need to do to get my vBa CMPS modules to play nice with it.

Where do i find this plugging?

ok, finally I believe I got it working but I have a problem showing both styles correctly. Check at the attachment below
Any ideas?

BirdOPrey5 12-11-2010 06:09 PM

That''s the same issue the user "Sticky" is having with the styles too... I don't know, it's working fine for me... Make sure both styles are parent styles.

If they are I suggest turning off all your mods besides this one and see if it works. If it does turn your mods back on one by one until you find the one causing the problem.

Bird you frequent this mods forum more than I do, perhaps remind users to check their other settings from time to time?

For example ensure in the styles options they are allowing user selection, ensure in the admincp style options you have it set to allow users to change styles. Along with that check to see if any .htaccess files are present and rename temporarily to see if that sorts it out otherwise it could be a mod.. anything installed dealing with the cache or how the site displays.

Just a few things off the top of my head.

BirdOPrey5 12-11-2010 06:29 PM

Those are some good suggestions... Although I have tested that it makes no difference on my test forum if the style is marked as user selectable or not.

ACP => Plugins & Products => Plugin Manager => {scroll down to the "vBulletin 4 Cerberus" grouping} ** Load Config ** => Edit

As always, be careful when making any changes to existing plugins.

Try this...

ACP => Rebuild => Rebuild Style Information

This might sound stupid but I can't find rebuild?

It's actually under Maintenance -> Update Counters -> Rebuild Styles

Joe is correct.... unless you have debug mode turned on. ;) I am so used to seeing the "Rebuild" group that I did not take into account that it only shows up when the ACP is set for debug mode.

Thank you, rebuilt it but did not work.

I'm thinking it is that the product is not compatible with older version of VB. If the other user having the same issue can confirm what version he is on that may help come to a conclusion.

So do you have your CSS being stored as files? If yes, did you try turning that option off? If no, if you do a view source on your site is the path to your .css files correct?

tpgsr 12-12-2010 12:30 AM

I had this same style issue when I built my solution for this. I will try and recreate this problem if possible to see what I did. I almost feel like the solution was to rebuild the style. Try creating a new default skin and pointing Cerberus to that skin Id. If that works then you know the issue is within the customizations.

I tried it with CSS stores as files and not stored as files, did not change anything.

Created a new skin and tried it but still the same problem.

I'm thinking the issue is because I am on 4.0.2. If the other guy is on an older version as well that might explain it.

What version is everyone running with this?

BirdOPrey5 12-12-2010 02:00 AM

4.0.8 here.
