How do I delete it? All I see is Enable (I disabled it) or Edit from the dropdown. |
You should enable debug mode in vBulletin's config.php to be able to delete it.
|
worked once I deleted the htaccess file in the data folder. How is Google supposed to access the sitemap with that there?! I quote: "deny from all"
Edit: it seems I didn't look closely enough at this, see my post below. |
You should submit forums/sitemap_index.xml.gz link, not forums/vbseo_sitemap/data/sitemap_index.xml.gz
|
Ahhh, OK I see the rewrite rule in the htaccess file. Thanks.

You should disable Text sitemap option, remove *.gz files from data/ folder and regenerate sitemap.
|
Ok thanks...

For various reasons, I need to move the rewrite code to the .htaccess file of my domain's root instead of my /forums directory.
What can I change the .htaccess rewrite rule to in order for it to work in my root's .htaccess? Edit: I found this Wiki page of yours: http://www.vbseo.com/wiki/Sitemap:FAQ I want to make sure that by following those steps, my root's sitemap (which is a WordPress blog) will not be overwritten. In other words, I still want my forum sitemap to be located in the same place it currently is, but I just want the rewrite rules to be specified in the root's .htaccess rather than the forum's .htaccess. Thanks |
You can follow the steps described in wiki, if you have existing .htaccess file, you should just add new rewrite rules to the top of it.
|
Why does it say "invalid file specified" when I try to update?
|
thanks for the update, no problems encounter so far
|
I tried running the generator and got this
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 164434862 bytes) in /home/thecodec/public_html/forumz/vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_sitemap_functions.php on line 1537 Any ideas? |
Ignore the above i turned of the TEXT map setting!
|
howcome search engines are not downloadnig my sitemap?
|
Nice an easy install, well done! Now to wait till Google downloads my new robots.txt with the block on the forum removed. Good job!

Something is awry, hopefully with Yahoo, but I wanted to report it here anyway, as if Yahoo changed something in this communication sequence, it impacts the effectiveness of this excellent mod.
The last 2 days, on both vBSEO'd sites and not, the following results are in the SiteMap Generator Report Update email. This is for at least 4 sites that I am managing, all on separate hosts and hosting companies: Google ping: Successful. Yahoo ping: FAILED. Ask ping: Successful. Moreover ping: Successful. Live.com ping: Successful. |

Yup, another confirmation here, Yahoo has failed for the last three days for me now, was working fine before that.

Just installed it, followed instructions, everything looks good. However, the file is simply not being generated!
When I click run sitemap it does not give any error messages: [homepage] [0s (+0s)] [SECTION START] forumdisplay [0s (+0s)] [forumdisplay] forum_id: 1, total threads: 0, pages: 1 [0s (+0s)] [forumdisplay] forum_id: 2, total threads: 5, pages: 1 [0s (+0s)] [forumdisplay] forum_id: 3, total threads: 3, pages: 1 [0s (+0s)] [forumdisplay] forum_id: 4, total threads: 0, pages: 1 [0s (+0s)] [forumdisplay] forum_id: 5, total threads: 4, pages: 1 [0s (+0s)] [forumdisplay] forum_id: 7, total threads: 2, pages: 1 [0s (+0s)] [forumdisplay] forum_id: 6, total threads: 2, pages: 1 [0s (+0s)] [forumdisplay] forum_id: 8, total threads: 1, pages: 1 [0s (+0s)] [SECTION START] showthread [0s (+0s)] [archive homepage] [0s (+0s)] [SECTION START] forumdisplay archived [0s (+0s)] [SECTION START] showthread archived [0s (+0s)] [SECTION START] member [0s (+0s)] [SECTION START] polls [0s (+0s)] [SECTION START] blogs [0s (+0s)] [SECTION START] albums [0s (+0s)] [SECTION START] groups [0s (+0s)] [SECTION START] tags [0s (+0s)] [SECTION START] blog tags [0s (+0s)] [create sitemap file] filename: sitemap_1.xml.gz, number of urls: 149 [0s (+0s)] [create sitemap in text format] part #1 [0s (+0s)] [create sitemap index] filename: sitemap_index.xml.gz, number of sitemaps: 1 [0s (+0s)] Sitemap has been created. Yahoo sitemap submission service has issues recently, so I'd recommend to manually submit it to https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/mysites
sjd996, make sure that your genererator/data/ folder is writable (0777 permissions) and create .htaccess file as described in installation instruction. |
hey my sitemap has been downloaded 0 times. could you help me with this please iojam?

Thanks Vbseo. Hostgator can't do anything about it on shared accounts. Only on a dedicated. Is there any workaround to that? ERROR AGAIN BELOW: Quote:

Hi, I can't add my sitemap to google at https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/addsitemap
For starters there is no sitemap_index.xml.gz file in the root directory - its at vbseo_sitemap/data/sitemap_index.xml.gz and when I submit it it says: Quote:

crazlunatic,
try to submit it manually to Google: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/dashboard jmw, you can disable some URL types to reduce the number of entries in sitemap (like showpost, member profiles, tag pages). Catherines WC, make sure that you completed all steps as described in installtion instructions (including .htaccess entry). You should submit forums/sitemap_index.xml.gz then. |
Everything worked fine with the sitemap generator for quite some time and then out of the blue I've started getting some issues with Google.
On my Google sitemaps page it now says I have two site maps.... forums/sitemap_index.xml.gz forums/external.php?type=RSS2 The second one has errors which all seem to be related to new posts... forums/showthread.php?t=14204&goto=newpost Any ideas on how to correct this? Perhaps append the .htaccess file? And if so, what do I add to it? Thanks in advance. :) -Chris |
vBSEO Sitemap Generator creates only sitemap_*.xml.gz sitemaps, the second one is not related to it.
|
When i make a sitemap and then click on the url to it in the cp i get this
Code:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below. Thanks |
Yes, it looks ok.
|
hey, my sitemap has been unable to be downloaded by google, any ideas why?
|
What exactly is the error message you get?
|
My first sitemap has just been created but there seems to be a problem(or not)...
When i check the summary I got in the e-mail all the x numbers are double then they should be. Show Thread: A number 2x the amount of threads I have Show Post: A number 2x the amount of posts I have Member Profiles: A number 2x the amount of users I have Im not sure of the other summary options because these are the easiest ones to check but is there something wrong or is it supposed to be that way? What can I do to correct it if its not supposed to happen? Thanks EDIT: OK, I looked through the sitemap that was generated and it included all the non-rewriten and all rewriten pages. Is this normal and would this be considered duplicate content? BTW, I also have vBSEO installed. |
