Older Version Support

While most users are choosing to upgrade to the notices system, there are some advantages to the "old" system mainly in that it does not rely on a rules system and can be configured as designed with code changes. Additionally, the "old" version has automatic interfacing with several other addons which the notices system does not. For this reason, the old version is still supported and remains fully compatible with 3.8.

I have a 3.6 vbulletin forum that still has the Welcome Headers version from that time period still installed.

I am now upgrading that forum to 3.8.4.

Does the above quote mean that the version of Welcome Headers that I'm using with vb 3.6 will work when I upgrade to 3.8.4?

If so, what advantages would I find by using this version of Welcome Headers?

Thanks.

You can continue to run the same version of the mod if you like how it preforms.

The advantage of the new version is to use the notices system which is a default part of vbulletin rather than conditionals. The downside is that you must follow the structure of the notices system.

Anshpcea 11-12-2009 03:21 AM

How can I add image in welcome headers. Please help.

Ted S 11-12-2009 04:06 PM

Use the old version of the addon and modify the welcome_headers template to include your image.

kNeeLy 01-24-2010 11:48 PM

does anyone know what to add to vba to make the links work correctly on the vba page?

For example...

If your on my main vba page...www.mysite .com and you click a welcome header link, it does not add the /forum in the address so u get an error.
But, if your on www.mysite .com/forum and you click a welcome header link it works fine.

With vba you always have to add "exampleword.php" to the global options area for links to work right...

anyone know what the magic word is?

I used welcomeheaders in my Portal Output Global Variables and it seems to work fine for me.

This mod is a set of notices for the notices manager.

Simon Lloyd 05-09-2010 12:30 PM

Ted i'd like to download version38_NOTICES and use this mod but it isn't available in the download section, have i missed something?

Simon Lloyd 05-09-2010 01:44 PM

Ted, no need to answer, i used the version37_NOTICES, i was under the impression that you may have had some custom settings i could have use as i find the native vb settings too restrictive for what i want.

Thanks anyway!

The notices system is limited, which is why I still support the template version. Less easy to control but much more flexibility.

anjaan7979 07-10-2010 04:19 AM

I installed and then uninstalled this mod and now I have a notices bar appearing under the logo. How to solve this?

Thanks

Have you customized the placement of the notices variable or your navbar template?

No I followed your directions on how to install your plugin. What I noticed is that the notices only end up showing up at the bottom (footer) only when the Unregistered notice is on as it seems to conflict with the never posted notice, weird. I spend hours trying to figure it out and just diabled the entire plugin till I can correct the issue.

This mod is not the notices system, notices are a part of vBulletin 3.8. The mod is simply a list of pre-made messages. So if you are having issues with notices that's a result of improper customizations to your vbulletin stock templates.

Ah yes...thank you. But I forgot to mention...I wanted to do this for only one notice...and not all of them. Any ideas?

MagicThemeParks 05-20-2011 06:00 PM

May want to use this method to get it done: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=178248

Quick bump....

I tried this and no dice. I still get no "/forum" in my links (register and contact us) vba page. They work ok on the vba page itself, but not in the welcome headers.

Does anyone know any other tricks?

TROLL 08-25-2011 03:14 PM

I installed this last night but am having an issue I can't figure out:

Guest: notification shows up as it should
Unconfirmed: notification shows up as it should
No posts: no notification
Haven't posted in a long time: no notification

I have a username for each of these to test and that is what I found. I'm not sure why or how to look into this further. The notifications are listed in the AdminCP but do not show up at the top of the forum.

Any ideas?

I just "hard coded" those links to avoid this issue... instead of the code being "./register.php" I inserted "http://www.FORUMNAME.com/forum/register.php" which seems to be working.

This won't be an issue with this mod, this mod simply installs some notices in the notice system to get you started, this mod does nothing more than that, it doesn't interact or change any files....etc so it's exactly as though you have created those notices yourself :)
